A note of thanks to GTP_legend1. With his help, I knocked a few of the Cops & Robbers Trophies off yesterday. I wish I could have played a bit longer, but had too many things to accomplish.

I still have three more trophies to knock out the Cops & Robbers, but am hoping to tackle those later today. It is an enjoyable additional portion of the game, but am not sure how much it really adds.

I'd like to see what happens when you're in the middle of an online session, and a player doesn't have the C&R DLC. Can you start it, or does it automatically boot that person?

@ Super_Spig: Nice vid 👍 It supports my suspicion then that some of the island is already in the game. Man, I envy PC users, they always have the luxury of hacking to get them into all sorts of places within the game.

@ Der Alta: You're welcome 👍. Next time you should tell me if you are going after trophies, I could do a few more rounds of cops n robbers to help you get them instead of doing challenges.

IMO C&R doesn't really add much to gameplay, after two weeks people will probably stop playing it. The main issue I think is the concept (it's too similar to marked man and road rage) and the places never change (you always start and finish at the same place, and the gold's location also rotates every 5 rounds if I remember). So it has limited replay value. I myself think the new cop liveries are better than the game mode itself.

Regarding what happens when someone doesn't have the DLC, the game will probably just set that player as a robber everytime. I don't think it will kick the player given BOP's user friendly online system.

EDIT: I'm also somewhat disappointed that C&R is online only. Oh well...

Here's to Big Surf Island being released soon .

Well people, I took the plunge last night and bought Cops and Robbers. :D

I love the new liveries for the cars, but the online mode feels... lacking.

I got all the trophies in just two games, one as a Cop and the other as a Robber, and if I'm honest I can only see myself playing it again with new friends who haven't got the trophies.

For the money I spent on it I thought it was overpriced, and seemed the kind of mode that the developers made in the lunch break. That's not to say it isn't fun, but I can see that it will wear thin after a while. Perphaps some Cops and Robbers themed challenges may have fleshed the pack out more.

I just hope that the Island is up to the hype.

I was also thinking the Criterion Games are going to have to play the Island DLC carefully. It's going to be interesting how they divide the community into people who have and don't have the Island. I don't want a massive barrier that separates people, but at the same time it would be nice for exculisivity for people who buy it.

Thoughts...?

Super_Spig

Does anybody think that I should take the plunge and buy the extra DLC packages?

I've recently bought The Ultimate Box Disc and got 79% of the trophies.

So I've got the Cagney and bike packages along with the Legendary cars pack I bought.

Does anyone think I should buy the other ones? ie Cops N Robbers.

Thanks

I'd skip the Cops & Robbers, and pick the Toy cars DLC. That one is second only to the Bike Package. Not only are they fun, they are also competitive in Online challenges and regular game play.

@ Super_Spig: I believe the Island will be the best DLC to date. Also, being the last one means Criterion will put extra work in it to make it absolutely fantastic. I get a feeling that C&R is just something Criterion released to tie us over until the release of the island (just like GT5P to GT5, but on a much smaller scale). It serves its purpose well if that's the case and I won't complain because it's better than nothing. As for separating those who have/haven't bought the island I think Criterion will just not let them play in the same room. So if you have the island, when you search for rooms it will only show those that have the DLC and vice versa. Problem solved :).

@ SVT Cobra: If you have the money then yes, buy them all I say. But if you want to get value for money, go for the Toy Cars (like Der Alta said) and the Island which is still going to be released 👍.

Also, I've got a challenge for you guys. While watching stunt run vids on youtube I noticed there are people who managed to get insane scores. And I'm not saying a few millions, it's billions! They have like x300 multiplier and this leads to what I want to know. What is the highest possible multiplier (counting all super jumps, billboards, big air, barrel rolls) possible in BOP? Remember repeated stunts don't count as multipliers.

It is unlimited. I've mapped a full loop around Paradise City, that allows you to continue non-stop, provided you don't crash into traffic. I think I'velaid it out on here, just not in that exact fashion. You start at the West end of the South Bay Expressway bridge, and pretty much loop counter clockwise around the city until you get to the west end of the North Beach. At that point, you veer south and down the railroad tracks, crossing over onto streets to return to the Naval Yard. At that point you head east and continue wracking up scores.

Unless you're asking, without repeating any jumps/billboards or such, what is the total you could score? In which case, you'd have to figure out the max multiplier you could get off one jump. I've wracked a 13x on one jump off Read Lane. Counting each one would be a stupendous yet nearly worthless expenditure of time.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm still not sure about the Cops N Robbers DLC, it just seems too much for what it is. :guilty:
The Toy cars seem fun and I might get them but I'm not sure at the moment, I really need to be saving for my driving lessons. :scared:

I guess the main reason for me asking about this is that I'm wondering if its worth buying everything so I can get 100% of the trophies.

I do think that the Stunt Island looks really interesting, but I think I'd be best off waiting until that comes out before buying anything.

I've decided not to get the Party Pack, as I'd only use it once, and for the sole purpose of getting the remaining trophies. Not worth the cash in my eyes. SVT Cobra GT, I understand what your line of thinking is.

^That's my question. I'm aware it would take a lot of time and effort, but it's still interesting to know what the numbers are. I'm not telling anyone to do it though, just asking if anybody had any ideas of the number 👍.

It seems that since Cops and Robbers was released, future updates have gone quiet about the game.

However...

I follow the entire Criterion Games team on twitter, and it seems that there may be some news soon! :D
One of the team, known as IslandPete (nice name! 👍) posted:
getting excited about next month...

:D

This also came on the same day that Suda 51 (famous Japanese dev, I googled him too!) came into the stuido, and another member of the team posted:
Suda 51 getting an exclusive look at the Island and LOVING IT!

This may suggest that the Island is near completion and into the testing phase! :dopey:

In other, less exciting news, it is possible that the title of this thread is changed? It seems kinda odd that the main thread still makes reference to the sponser cars feature, which was removed from the game several months ago!

But that's me being pedantic...!

Hope that fuels some excitement! :sly:

Super_Spig

P.S (Sorry for the long post! :dopey:)

Sorry to double post, but this is necessary!

The Island is coming INCREDIBLY soon!

I know this because I compared trophies with another Burnout player, and the new Island trophies were listed.

They are mainly about smashing new Billboards, but one mentioned the Crash TV Ski Jump! :D

Sorry for my joyous post, it has lightened my current exam dampened life!

A very happy Super_Spig :dopey:

I just purchased this game a couple weeks ago from the PS Store. Not bad I must say. Already finished all of the billboards, still have 4 "smashes" to complete, but can't find them. Set a few point to point records though.

The Island is paid DLC Appie.

The long running story behind the Island that originally it was going to be the only DLC for Burnout, and was planned to be free.

However, as Criterion developed the Island, they realised that it was bigger and better than they first planned, and could not justify it being free content.

Despite the cost, I feel that this is an ESSENTIAL purchase, as apparently the Island is the size of Downtown Paradise (the main city area), and made just like the Quarry, Airfield and Big Surf Beach, with the philosophy "If you can see it, you can drive it!".

I sound like a Criterion press release! :D

R1600Turbo, Criterion do have a game save analyser on their website for PS3. If you copy your game save to a memory stick etc and go to their webiste, you can upload the file and it will tell you where your remaining smashes, super jumps and billboards are on the game map.

The link to the game save analyser is: http://www.burnoutteamrocks.com/

Hope that helps you both! :D

Sorry for ANOTHER double post, but I have managed to find the new Island trophies list.

• Bronze - Drive through 20 Island Smash Gates
Awarded when you drive through your 20th set of Orange Island Smash Gates

• Siliver - Smash 15 Island Billboards
Awarded when you smash through your 15th pristine Island Billboard

• Bronze - Land 5 Island Mega Jumps
Awarded when you successfully land your 5th Island Mega Jump

• Bronze - Jump through Deese's Donut
Successfully land the Island Mega Jump through Deese's Donut

• Bronze - 4.5 seconds of Crash TV Air Time
Successfully land the Island Mega Jump from the Crash TV Ski Jump and get at least 4.5 seconds of Air Time

• Bronze - Complete a 750 yard drift inside the Inspiral Car Park
Awarded when you complete a continuous 750 yard drift inside the Inspiral Car Park

• Bronze - Complete your first Island Tour
Awarded when you successfully complete your first Island Tour

• Bronze - Find all Island Events
Awarded when you find all 15 events on Big Surf Island

• Bronze - Complete all 10 Island Freeburn Challenges
Awarded when you successfully complete all 10 Island Freeburn Challenges. These can be completed by 2 - 8 players

• Bronze - Smash all 45 Island Billboards
Awarded when you've smashed through all 45 Island Billboards

My main points to notice:
New Mega Jumps! Are these bigger than super jumps?
What are Island tours?
20 New Smashes!
15 New Island Events!
10 New Freeburn Challenges, which seem to be completed by between 2 and 8 players, rather than a necessary number of people.

This seems a bit nasty, but I personally though that there would have been more than 10 new Freeburn Challenges, but I will reserve judgement until I have played them.

Thoughts / Opinions...?

Edit:

It seems that Criterion are letting slip the release date for the Island this friday, according to IslandPete's twitter:

Almost time to spill the beans.. be watching CriterionGames.com at 4pm BST this Friday. Your questions will be answered...

Sweet, thanks! I found a few more last night, just have one left in the downtown area.

The Island download will be available on June 11th, for those who haven't heard.

I perhaps should have said that really, given that I gave the announcement so much hype! :dunce:

Anyone fancy having a meet up some time this week, as I am on half-term and it would be nice to have a break from exam revision! :ouch:

Crash TV gives a tour of Big Surf Island.

It seemed that the new podcast answered alot of questions (well for me personally!)

It seems that Island Tours are the Island version of Burning Routes, and that
Mega Jumps are the Island version of Super Jumps.

I always wondered how Island progression would work, so the idea of an Island license seems logical, given the Bike license being implemented for the Bike update.

I cannot to see the new cars in the pack, but I have discovered a few of them!
One appears to be a faster/better Carson Annihilator, and another is the Hunter Olympus.
These can be seen in the Island release date video, and stills can be found in the link below:
http://burnout.wikia.com/wiki/Big_Surf_Island_(Update)#Vehicles

Another one seems to be an upgraded Dust Storm, possibly won when completing the regular Dust Storm Burning route / Island Tour
Hopefully the next podcast will show how people who don't have the Island will interact with those who do have it.

I've also been following the Crash TV podcasts on the island as well. And so far it looks great except for the menu's colour change. Why do they have to change it to orange? I remembered we had an orange theme a while back and I thought it looks horrid. The current blue one is the best, followed by the original red one.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm interested in the other 8 cars. I really hope not all of them are not 'recycled' paradise cars though because from your link Super Spig, it looks like they are :ouch:. If they're going to make the Olympus available offline though, I hope they also make the Rai-Jin available. I love that car but the lack of boost really lets it down.

I predict this is how we will unlock the cars:
-Carson Dust Storm - default.
-Carson Dust Runner - win the Dust Storm Burning Route.
-Hidden car 1 - collect all smashes.
-Hidden car 2 - collect all billboards.
-Hidden car 3 - collect all mega jumps.
-Hidden car 4 (Camo Olympus) - beat all showtime road rule.
-Hidden car 5 (Hopefully Rai-Jin) - beat all time road rule.
-Hidden car 6 (Super Annihilator) - get 100% on Island license.
-Hidden car 7 - get 101% on Island license (all events, collectibles, road rules, freeburn challenges and achievements).

The greatest thing though is the relese date; June 11th is exactly the date of my last exam! So I'll be running home to download the pack as soon as it's available without any feeling of guilt .

P.S. I've been thinking about this, but wouldn't it be great if Criterion decides to release a final DLC that contains all of the cars in Paradise toy-ified? Can you imagine how awesome driving a Toy Tempesta or Toy Revenge Racer would be? :D

Update on Island Tours.

It seems that they are not the equivalent of Burning Routes, but similar to the checkpoint events found in the Bike part of the game:

Taken from the Criterion Games website:
The new Island Tours make the most of all the incredible off road routes around the Island. You are on your own, against the clock, in a checkpoint race off-road through shortcuts and mega jumps.

We included Checkpoint events to complete in Burnout Paradise on our Bike License to test your navigation skills around the roads of Paradise City. We have evolved these again for the Island, bringing another new experience.

To make sure the route off-road is clear we've added clear checkpoint markers into the world for drivers to aim for. No excuses for getting lost.

Should be fun to play and enable us to become familiar with the Island layout!

Island Tours looks great!

Anyway, another update from the Criterion News page reveals another two of the 9 new Island Vehicles. The Camouflage Olympus is called Hunter Olympus Governor, and it will have a Stunt Boost (Doesn't make sense does it?, I was 100% sure it would have Aggression Boost. Let's see how well it barrel rolls, if at all ). The Super Annihilator is called Carson Annihilator Street Rod, and it will have a Speed Boost (I don't think highly of the standard Annihilator, and this will probably be the same, just faster that's all).

And I finally got 490/490 challenges done! Just a few minutes ago I had a great session with LMPs (Like Minded Players), and we did the last 20-odd challenges or so within 2 hours. It's amazing what you can get done if everyone is participating and not messing about. And even more amazing when you consider I only began doing online challenges from mid-March. So yeah, it can be done guys. What I found most helpful is to add a lot of LMPs to your friends list early in your online career, so you would always have someone to join/invite when you need to knock off those last few challenges (especially the 6,7,8 players ones).

So that's it! I'm concentrating on my exams now, next time I go online I'll see you all on the Island ;).

The new Annihilator looks ace! I love the current one! Does this remind anyone of Dom's Charger from the first Fast and Furious?
Island_Annihilator_03.png

Does any once fancy having a massive meet-up when the Island is released and exams are over?
I don't mind organising it, and then people who haven't done all the challenges (including me) can smash through a few! :D

Super_Spig

In terms of looks, I actually like the Annihilator. But the handling is horrible. I'm not complaining that they make it better though, because that's how a classic muscle car should be. Lots of power + unrefined handling = great fun. It's just that I like good handling cars more. And yes it reminds me of Dom's Charger, here's hoping it can replicate the wheelie too :D.

About meeting up, shoot me an invite when you see me online 👍. I'll probably also need your help with the new Island challenges. After that we can smash through as many challenges as you want :).

EDIT: Crash TV #34 is now out! Even more awesome footage of the island plus new events and cars. Nothing we don't already know though, but still awesome :D.

Feel free to drop me an invite should you see me online. I was recently laid off from work and have a bit of contract work to complete which should all be done by next Thursday. Just in time for me to park my keister in front of the TV to rummage about the island.

Looking forward to it.

I'm off all next week, so I may be looking for people to play with. I have to find two events and get my Burnout license (19 more events to go) to get all trophies that don't involve online. After that I am just the online trophies away from a platinum and will be looking to earn it.

I need to go back through this thread, but is there a map of all events anywhere? I am missing two and I am finding that not all intersections have street lights/events. So there are two intersections somewhere that I haven't been though yet.
