I know the larger LCD's and plasmas have some lag to them. Any need to worry with a racing game or is that more shooters and fighting games? If I need to, what TVs do you suggest?

Some of the 1st gen lcd's had a "lag" latency of around 15-50ms. This was somewhat apparent on 1st person shooter games but at that time, the white ghosting was more of a factor than the latency. In modern times the ms delay is in the 2-5ms range from gtg (gray to gray)...youre not going to feel any lag at all.

I have a 4 year old 42" vizo 720p and there is absolutely no lag on it...anything modern thats a namebrand is going to be fine in that aspect. The tv you buy matters, but lag isnt anything thats an issue anymore.

Contrast ratio, resolution, how many hz the screen is, cost, 3d?, those are the issue nowadays ;-)

Whats your budget and what country?

Not necessarily true. Some of the 2010 Sony models for example, have a much, much higher lag than the 2008 models. Newer isn't always better, and in some case input lag has gotten worse on comparative models.

For comparable Sony model ranges:

2008 W4500 Input Lag: 0-10ms in [Game Mode] or over VGA; 30-50ms otherwise.

2009 W5500 Input Lag: 17-33ms in [Game Mode]; 40ms over VGA; 50ms otherwise

2010 EX503 Input Lag: 60ms in [Game Mode] compared to lag-free CRT

To be honest, I'm not sure if this is just the case for Sony or other brands also, I only use this example as I was going to upgrade from the W4500 to the EX503, but didn't because of the immense lag retrograde. You really need to read reviews for specific TVs and their input lag, and also determine how much lag is acceptable for you.

I have done a fair bit of research into this when replacing my 720p Samsung.

Generally you have to just look around on the internet and see what people say the input lag is after their tests (I suggest AVForums) - manufacturers tend to hide this factor from all of their TV descriptions...

I ended up buying a 5-series Samsung (32C580 to be exact), since Samsung have finally seemed to have reduced the issue of input lag they've had on their LCDs for a few years now (some ranging from 60-110ms !). This gives me around 34ms lag, which is very good for a display of this type, but still noticable since I have been using a PC monitor for a while, which is lag-free.

Also tend to avoid TVs which do 100+htz processing - even with the 100htz off it seems they have more lag than non-100htz TVs.

My research is based on more mainstream LCD TVs though - I have no idea what the high end ones or other types are like. Although I read LED TVs from Samsung seem to suffer a fair bit.

Didnt know that the newer tv's have gotten worse on lag wowzuh would have never expected that.

Tigerdirect.com, newegg.com as well as amazon.com have some expansive user reviews that im sure offer some good info on the model youre looking at. I bought 2 refurbished vizios ( a 42 and a 37) and have been perfect 4 years running, but the best buy brand insignia basically gives away their 42's and they are made by LG or other big names I believe.

My 46" Samsung (non-LED), 1080p, which I got last year gives me no problems whatsoever. Everything I run through it (PS3, SKY+HD, standalone blu-ray), looks and sounds fantastic. In fact I have always stuck with either Sony or Samsung for my home entertainment.

I have to admit I was also worrying about this too. I have just got a new TV and reviews put the lag as around 50ms (milliseconds) but they (AVforums, AVSforum) recommend using game mode to reduce this. What a load of rubbish, I don't use motionflow or any of the other "special features" that come built into a TV, if you calibrate it correctly and turn off all of the rubbish features then the delay is very small, I have played GT5P and Ridge Racer without and problems and a big test is a Golf game and again it's not a problem.

What ever TV you have make sure you only use the features that actually make a difference you can notice (to your eyes as everyone is different) as the more processing your TV is doing to put a picture on your screen the bigger the lag will be.
