There are certainly lap times a lot faster, but for that type of car, I think that is still pretty impressive, at least going by the company it is in.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - 7:40.00
McLaren Mercedes SLR - 7:40.00
Porsche 911 GT3 - 7:40.00
Porsche 911 Carrera S 7:40.00
Chevrolet Camaro ZL-1 7:41.27
Porsche 911 GT3 - 7:42.00
Radical SR3 - 7:42.00
Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SV - 7:42.00
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 7:42.90
Porsche 911 GT3 RS - 7:43.00
Pagani Zonda C12 S - 7:44.00
Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI - 7:44.00

Keep in mind that most of those lap times aren't done by the manufacture. Often, a car maker will run millions of laps before they get the time they want. The times set by car magazines are from going around for just a lap or two. No to mention the fact that the driver of the Camaro knows the car quite well compared to the others.

That said, 7:41 is an impressive time for a muscle car!

Except that isn't a ridiculous lap time.
LOL, 7:41 is DAMN impressive for a 4200+lbs car.

Looking at that list the ZL1 is the only car that can sit four people. Yea I know the GTR isn't on there because its much faster... Apples & Oranges

The ZL1 is the coolest Camaro I've ever seen. Also the fastest one too. I did expect the car to make that kind of lap time. Seeing as how it has about what? 500 - 700 HP?

580hp.

Why couldn't they lighten it?

Because the two ton :scared: ZL1 will rarely be taken to a race track. A serious driver who is after a car of this kind is probably going to go for the Mustang Boss 302 or Shelby GT500.

The ZL1 is for cruising around city streets with your Boston Acoustics stereo and 20 inch wheels and occasionally putting the foot down on the highway.

The Nurburgring time is simply something for the driver to stow away in his head. It's there so he feels confident that his car can be a serious racer any time it wanted.

I agree with Zenith013. I love the ZL1 and I think it's a great car, but... the cars lap time is similar to the Porsche's just for one reason: horsepower and straights. Nordschleife has two long straights, so that's where it gained the time it lost in the corners. You can look at the map right here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nürburgring_-_Nordschleife.svg

What I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't read too much into these 'Ring times. A ZL1 will never be as fast as a Porsche in corners just as a current Porsche (except the turbo versions) will never be as fast as the ZL1 in a straight line. It just depends on what you want and what you have in your wallet.
