Can adding a turbo kit ruin a car?

My 2002 Turbo has MASSIVE turbo lag. I put a high RPM Turbo kit on it because I wanted to make it go 170 in a straight line. The only way to get rid of it is to hold the brake, give it revs and release the brake. This thing will FLY! It's a little track monster.

+1 to Superchargers being better. In games I don't mind turbos. In real life, I think they stink.

"Turbos are for people who cannot reach their power goals without them."
- A wise man

Then what about superchargers?

Aren't they basically achieving the same goal as a turbo does?

You sure about that? I think I came across a car that was better using a Stage 3 turbo than a supercharger.

Supercharger will be better when tire wear is on.

If you're using slower cars, though, you'd might as well get the maximum horsepower figure from a high rpm turbo....

It doesn't really make too much sense in GT5, to use small low powered road cars at all unfortunately. There just aren't any low speed paved courses in the game. Every paved course in GT5 requires a very high output engine. And all the seasonal challenges just force you to out pace slower cars ahead of you.

I find supercharger's better, nicer power band and power from as soon as shifted, not shift.... lag...lag...laaaag... oh there it is.

To avoid the lag you must use heel and toe or at least give little touches to the throttle while shifting to keep up the engine presure 👍

Control your feet and nobody can beat your turbo 908:tup:

In general, you trade response for performance as you increase the "stage" of a turbo. In the real world, there aren't "stages" of turbos, only sizes. There are turbo controllers, which are computer chips that manage turbo systems, that are often referred to in stages.

For the purposes of the game; stage 1 is small, stage 2 is medium, and stage 3 is large. A small fan will reach it's peak wind-speed much faster than a large fan, but produce much less air-flow in a given space. The same is true for turbos, smaller is faster, larger is more powerful.

So, if you need to build a tune for...
Low-Speed (short tracks, twisty tracks, generally slow cars with horrible acceleration): use stage 1
Mid-Speed (most GT road-course style tracks): stage 2
Top-Speed (Daytona, Indy): stage 3

The higher the stage, the more response lag you will get (time before boost is produced). Small engine cars really shouldn't have more than a stage 2 installed, because you'll never get a great benefit due to the "boost-lag." Cote D' Azur is a great example of a track that encourages use of acceleration over top-speed, and smaller turbos to help that end.

Put a Stage 3 turbo on the F40 and you'll see what both are
It's turbo lag is insane.
Or even worse, just buy the Nissan OPTION Stream Z '04 from the USED Dealership.
That is even worse.
Power at low: None.... nope, still none... sigh...
Revs get above 3k: FUUUUUUUUUUUUU... Well hello there mister rev limiter...

Try an Escudo. You need to rev the nuts off of it to get it to move. If you stop the car dead, rev it up and then go it's faster than waiting for the lag to dissapear!

I always take off with high rev.
Mostly on second gear.
The tire loss makes it up for the big head start that saves you from the lot that can't late brake.

No, it can not. Power is always your friend.

Worst turbo laggy cars:
1. Suzuki Escudo
2. Ferrari F40
3. Tuned VW Schwimmwagen
4. Nissan Option Stream Z

The 300zx 89 fully tuned has a nice little spot of turbo lag just off idle in first gear that allows the rears to hook up, so by the time the boost kicks in the car just GOES.. i have far too many tuned cars in my arsenal

I never really experienced lag though for turbos, but are they modeled in the game?

I rarely drive my F40, and I think my cousin has mine on his account.
