i need to know the best antiallas is think it is the one that is allready selected but can someone tell me

there's

2x

quincinx

4x

4xs(d3d only)

4xs, but that can drop your framerate.

I leave it on 4xs because my framerate r0x0rs anyway ;)

nope it is not. why? BECAUSE I SAID SO!! muahahahaha :P

but really, i don't have the patience to sit here and type out a thorough explanation. If you would like further information visit www.anandtech.com check out the video card section and look for the GeForce4 articles. One of the technology articles will give you more information then you could possibly want. enjoy!

Quincinx is nice, but it's not the best. It's just a shortcut method that yields decent results without taking quite a perfomance hit. 4x FSAA is the best of the bunch. I went through a ton of Tests a while back comparing screen shots of Return to castle Wolfenstien and in all honesty the absolute best is running a game of 1600x1200 or better. The higher resolution looks way better than the antialiasing, and keeps the level of detail sharp.
f you can run FSAA on 1600x1200 resolution then 4x is the king. It's one of those things you really need to decide for yourself whether you like better or not.
I always go for a lower resolution like 1024x768 so I can have a really high framerate which vastly improves gameplay, especially in multiplayer.

FSAA stands for Full scene Anti-aliasing. It basically smooths out the edges so that the image doesn't shimmer (like some PS2 games) or have jagged edges (sometimes called jaggies.)
Here is a picture with 4x FSAA. Note how the edges of the gun and the sphere are very smooth.

Here is a similar shot with no FSAA enabled. Both these shots are not enhance in any way, just cropped. Notice the jagged line on the gun, and on the sphere. (this game is Quake3 btw)

Doesn't the framerate drop when you use FSAA??

If it does - How much?

It does, and how much depends on your card. Newer cards like the GF4 ti series takes a little hit, but not much, and the upcoming Radeon 9700 takes almost no hit at all.
My GF3 takes a pretty good hit though, depending on what resolution I'm running at.
