Hi!!

I'm pretty fresh with GT3 (completed about 14% :) ) and i was wondering that what all those letter combinations mean...? like LM, GTO, FTO, R, RM, FR, FF, MR... and the list goes on....

So could someone help me and tell the meanings...?

GTO no idea
FTO no idea
R reverse?
Rm not sure
FR front wheel drive
FF front engine front wheel drive
MR mid engine rear drive

Let's see, FR, FF, and MR, are drivetrains of the car you're using. Those are the only ones taht matter out of the list you showed me i think.

The 1st letter in drivetrain notation is where the engine is placed on the car.
The 2nd letter signifies which tires produce the power.
So...
FR - Front engine, Rear wheel drive
FF - Front engine, Front wheel drive
MR - Mid-engine (behind driver), Rear wheel drive
4WD - 4 wheel drive

LM, GTO, FTO, R - Just fancy car names and symbols. Silly stuff

to add to other posts....

LM = le mans
R = I am asuming this is from a honda type-r of some sort = race or racing.
GTO = GT generally is grand touring, what the O would be i dont know
FTO = whouldnt have a clue
 
[R] = Race Modification, which is in GT2, or it could be from a type R...
 
GTO is Italian for Gran Turismo Omologato. Gran Turismo you can work out. Omologato means that the car has been approved for use in racing

O - Omologato. Italian for "approved for raging"

Grand Touring cars had to have a certain number of road cars produced before the the car was homologated (fancy word for "approved") to race in the GT series. Ferrari created their GT car and named it the GTO for Gran Touring Omolagato. Pontiac (and others) capitalized on the fame of the GTO name.

VING ... I'm supprised a FIAT man didn't know the answer. :p

TRIVIA: If you follow the Ferrari mystique, they always seem to get by without actually building all of the required cars to homologate. It seems they have a long history of favoritism by sanctioning bodies.

FTO appears to be a Mitsubishi-specific designation dating back to the early 70's. I don't know how they decided on the letters FTO though.

Wait...you forgot one...

RR = Rear engine rear drive. Only available on the Ruf RGT.

FTO, GTO, R, and others (350 Z) are simple designations given to different cars by the company that produced it. I'm fairly certain that is has some explainable meaning form within the company and it's reasoning but most of it is simply car designation.

For instance...The ZOnda C12 and the C12s. There are characteristcs different about these two cars viewable in the Specs section of the garage.

According to a website I found FTO stands for Fresh Touring Origination (whatever that means!?).

The first FTO I ever saw was in a Jackie Chan movie.
I think that Mitsubishi could sell the FTO in the US. Probably better than the Eclipse, and certainly better than the plain "Lancer" we've been getting.
Can't wait for the EVO 8.

:DVERY SURPRISED to see my first EVO 8 on the street here yesterday. (Saw one @ Dallas car show coupla months ago & saw a TON of 'em in Bangkok last summer.) Really surprised me as an "Exotic Car" around here usually means a Ford F-150 w/V-6 & Glass Packs!!!:lol: :lol: :lol: ...UB57

I used to live in Henderson, TN. It's a little town about 5 miles further out than "the middle of nowhere".
Any car that wasn't a truck was pretty exotic. Cars were only not exotic if they were more than 5 years old.
Cars were for women and men to old to hunt or farm.

Anyway, FTOs are for sale here...there's tons of em, but all of them ARE imports, and they're not sold through dealers.
 
I think it was the very first on that hit the US. I can't remember the title, but I remember a car sitting nose down on some kind of platform and Jackie did this "flippy thing" over the open door and into the car. Then he jumped the car onto a boat.
 
The first FTO I saw was in the petrol station just near where I live...:) So are FTOs for sale in the US? If so, for how much?

i doubt it was the first one that hit the US. we had one here called "rumble in the bronx" before that one which im my opinion was better. lets not forget jackie chan was already starring in the cannonball run (1981!!!!) :D. the movie you are thinking of with jackie, the boat and the fto is "first strike"
 
and da result is:

GTO = Grand Touring Omologato

LMO = Le Mans Omologato

FTO = F Touring Omologato

R = Racing Modification or Type R - Race car (for example Honda Civic Type R)
FF = Front engine, Front wheel driving

FR = Front engine, Rear wheel driving

MR = Middle engine, Rear wheel driving

RR = Rear engine, Rear wheel driving

4WD = Four wheel driving (but where's the engine..???)

oh on thing... what means ummm.. can't remember it correctly but something like GTJC or something like that...?? it's end of some race cars..... :D :D :D

And if you need to know, BTCC = British Touring Car Championship...that's where the modified Vauxhall/Opel Astras and other European cars compete. :)

i'm kinda outsider in car world.... but in GT3 i have gathered little bit knowledge in mi head... :D but don't know anything about cars outside GT3...
 
Yeh, I used to be like that too, that's where i started getting interested in cars :)

Hopefully the BTCC cars will be included in the next GT game, along with the DTM cars (Mercedes CLKs and Audi TTs are some of the cars in those series) :)
