Can you charge a DS3 controller from a wall socket?

Well, tbh, I charge pretty much all of my USB equipment from the mains.
Although, you will need one of those iPod chargers (with the removable cable).
I'll post a pic shortly... This thing exactly :):

But yeah, I do it with any USB equipment I have.

Disclaimer: I'm not 'worried' per-se, that I might damage anything doing this - but it's always a real possibility. So take heed, and only try it if you feel ok with it. 👍

My mobile phone charger works quite nicely for my DS3 so its certainly possible.

That's exactly what I was thinking about using. I have quite a few mobile chargers of the sort, I was just worried about damaging the controller. (I don't have $50 to go out and buy a new one if it dies)

I'll give it a shot. :)

Not to belittle BlameAuntJemimas post, but I would strongly suggest you don't waste your money on Sony merchandise. Especially when the forementioned iPod/phone chargers would work just as well. ;)

A power distribution bar with USB charging docks works well for my DS3 & Sony stereo wireless headset 👍

Not to what? You can't just make your own words up...

But anyway, as you've already said this...

Then Aunt Jemima's suggestion is perfectly OK.

So, use a random USB plug if you don't mind the possibilty of it frying your DS3, or buy the official Sony one and that way you'll have recourse if it breaks your DS3. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

He means he does not want refer to his post in derogatory (Negative/'Lowering in social rank' I guess) manner.

I support the AUP, but his term did make sense.

I never said I didn't work out what he meant, but should people who either speak English as a second language, or not at all, have to spend a few extra minutes working it out with a translator, or should we have to construct a sentence correctly which takes a few seconds?

P.S. Sorry about this Guardian, just making a point about how bad Internet translators can be.

Wow, so were still picking out one word (from millions of perfectly executed sentences) and whinging about it?

I did not want to sound like I was belittling BlameAuntJemimas suggestion. But, as I've already said, the cheaper mobile-phone charger option does the job fine. I've yet to have any issues using one.

It's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

It becomes a ridiculous joke, when someone posts in a perfectly literate manner 99.9999% of the time; yet when they misspell one word (accidentally), they get a hail of persistent whiners?

Move. On.

I don't come on here to argue, I do it to help people. A lot of those people, as I said, don't have as good an understanding of English as native speakers, so a misspelled and misplaced word in a sentence won't help matters. If you want to argue the point further, go ahead, but you'll have to find somebody else to disagree with you.

@ mistersafeway - My apologies, I forgot to state that my previous post was not directed towards you.

Sorry about that.

You didn't accidentally misspell anything. You made it up! Derogatory is a word. Derogatise isn't.

It was directed at him and me when you said, "hail of persistent whiners. If it was just directed at me it would a persistant whiner.

Move. On.
I had but you've got to keep it going. As you do.

Oh my. Who would've thought such a simple topic would go so astray....

Thank you everybody for your recommendations, and especially Guardian, without your recommendation, I would've bought the sony one, putting me quite out of pocket.

Cheers

The all bold thing is a bit irritating to me.

I assure you, you're not alone.

OP, here in the states I charged my first DS3 through a standard USB jack I had for charging my camera, and screwed up the controller. Issues from it were:
Assignment lights would constantly come on, forcing me to reset with the PS button.
Would randomly shut off completely, even after a full charge.
Would not work at all if charging cord was plugged into the PS3.

Now, there is the possibility the controller was defective, but for the first 4 months of it's life it worked just fine.
I've since bought the Sony branded wall adapter, and have had zero problems with any of the DS3's I've owned since. Add in the fact it was designed by the very company that made your device, it makes sense they work together properly, as it should 👍

That doesnt make sense, isnt all usb 5v / 12v output? And surely the controller is compatible with both

Its interesting because the symptoms you listed are nearly identical to the ones I had. The cause was a motorola bluetooth headset interfering with the controller

No problem at all. ;)
I'm more than happy to help you.

Will you please(!)...for the love of frick!...stop going on and on about the bl**dy bold text?!

I am not the only one on this forum who uses it, and it's by far and away not the worst font style here.

I am begging you to drop it, and just sh....arrggghhh!

Right then, care to explain how this^ is all on-topic? I'll let you in on a secret...the first of those posts came before mine.

I was under the same impression, as nothing else I've charged via that charger has seen any issues. But for some reason, it jacked my PS3 controller all up. For what it's worth, my headset is the PS3 one, and hasn't seemed to cause any interference with anything at all in my cave.
Perhaps I'll plug one into that charger again and see if it jacks it up, after all the PS4 should be here by Christmas anyways :sly:

Gaurdian: Is nobody within their rights to inform the forum that bold text irritates them? Nobody mentioned you specifically, but hey, if the shoe fits...
You have no problem derailing a thread and no problems telling people not to do the same. Life is a two way street young man, the sooner you grasp that the sooner people will start dishing a tad more respect. 👍
A mod specifically asked you NOT to do exactly what you just did, why do you assume you can go about in any manner you please?

Because it's the GT5 Q&A section. It tends to happen.

I sometimes charge my DS3 from my computer, plugging it into a USB port in there. Assuming it's the same output as the wall, you would only need a USB adapter.

It's not all about the voltage, amperage does matter too. You must use the right resistance to keep it in a safe range.

I can hardly stop with it since I, as far as I can remember, only did it once. You can't stop a process which isn't running, you know.

In my opinion the excessive usage of stilistic elements, such as nearly unreadable colours and your bold fetish, should be prohibited. But I'm certainly aware that it's not me who makes the rules. Just stating what I think.

Also, generally spoken, no matter wether others do it or not, it's not getting better due to this. Just saying...
Is there any fairness whatsoever in any of that^?

You know what?...don't answer that. I've had enough mod discrimination for one day - and I can't deal with anymore copy and pasted speeches tonight. Accept the fact that this:

is a thing of the past. No matter how hard you push it.

Please don't even lie, and say you don't have a noose around my neck every-time I post anything. I know that regardless of what I may ask most M.O.S, I'll be answered in a manner befitting of the above quote.

I am trying to move on...FFS...
Victim of society

Relax! Don't take everything that personal, it's unhealthy. :dopey:
