Ok, so I work in a hospital. In our unit, the pharmacy is inside the unit. Now, I wasnt trying to score, but I wont turn down a great flirting opportunity.

I noticed Claudia was talking German to one of our German attendings. Weeks before she had told me we could pull her out of the pharmacy and interpret for Spanish patients in a pinch. So, I asked her after seeing them talk, "how many languages DO you know?" I think she said it was just German, English, Spanish, I was in a dazz looking at her as she said it, lol.

So, the other day, I was thinking to myself, you know, I bet I dont even say Nurburgring Nordschleife correctly. That track always intimidates me, more so than talking to hot German girls apparently, lol. So, I figured next time Claudia walks by my desk, I'll ask her. She walks by, and I say "Hey, can you help me with something?" "Yeah sure" I quickly googled the name. "How do you say that?" Pointing to the full track name on my computer screen. Yeah, I was WAY off when I heard her say it. "Yeah, those two dots over the u make the "Ne yur" sound" she said. Then she discussed Nordschleife to say it Nord-shli-fuh. I tried it out a few times, then she said "Thats very good, most Americans have a hard time with that". I nodded in agreement nonchalantly. But was internally smiling ear to ear that I had slightly impressed her.

End of story.

:grumpy: Personally, I am insulted by this. What do you think we are? A bunch of hicks? Go visit Franklin, Brentwood, Cool Springs area, Nashville, Memphis, Germantown, Chattanooga. Don't go to Dixon, that's really the only place where country bumpkins are in a scary abundance. ;)

You've got red in your name!

Wait, so is nerr-berg-ring nord-shly-fuh wrong? That's how I pronounce it.
Next you should ask her how you say ich liebe dich. >__>

Get her to read your thread! She's just got to let you take a picture so we can see her! With all my connections to movie producers, it just might be her ticket to stardom!

Pete

Nah that's actually pretty close.
But Nyur-burg(not pronounced like burger, more like boorg, just pronounced shorter).
Also it's more shlifeh.

Nord, as in Nordic
Schleif, as in it rhymes with life
Uh, as in... uh.
Nordschleife. 5 years of German has done me some good, I guess.

It is strange to try because the English language doesn't have the same phonetic sounds as the German language. The ä,ö, and ü sounds are difficult when you just are learning German, and I've noticed that Non-native German speakers all have a different way they say it/have become comfortable saying it.
