Can your PS2 read GT4?

I think if your PS2 can play GTA SA then I think it should be able to play GT4.

It's not the wait.. I don't have a stand for my DFP yet, so even if it came out next week, I wouldn't be able to "properly" enjoy it until a couple weeks later. :) My coffee table just doesn't quite cut it, ya know?

It's just the idea that I might have the game in-hand and be without my PS2 that bothers me. I'm starting up a thread in the PS2 forum to discuss the DRE's, causes, solutions, etc.

hmm... you say sony will do it for free only if the seal is not broken...
I assume they would not do it for free if I have already installed a mod-chip ( for imports only )!!

I tought there was only a 90 day warranty on a PS2 ? Mine is 3 1/2 years old !

Except for the DRE. I believe it's cause was traced to a design flaw, so Sony is responsible, regardless of whether it's under warranty or not. Hence the free fix, even for old units. However, as mentioned, the unit must be 100% stock in order for the fix to be free.

Oh dear...

Well at least old xboxes can play new xbox games ;)
You most likely never tried to play The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition, or your Xbox is really not that old. Problems arise with this game in particular because an Xbox can have 1 of 3 DVD drives:

Thompson DVD Drive - most common among older Xbox’s. also the least reliable and most problematic by far of the 3 drives. Cannot burn from CD-Rs.
(Of course, this is the one that my Xbox had, and I never did finish this game. I was not going to spend an arm and a leg to upgrade to a better DVD drive)

Philips DVD Drive - Was the standard drive starting around February 2003. Very reliable. Can burn from CD-Rs.

Samsung DVD Drive - Easily the best, most reliable, and quietest DVD drive. Microsoft only recently starting using these in the Xbox systems. Cannot Burn CD-Rs.

Since all XBoxes are not created equal, your Xbox may be a piece of junk, or a fine device. M$ should upgrade ALL systems to the best available DVD drive at no cost to the consumer whatsoever.

What you do think about not being able to play GT4 on your PS2? I think this is wrong, I mean this game is made for PS2 which mean should be able to play on any PS2 model, so Sony should replace your PS2 if it doesn't play GT4. I think GT4 is trying to make more money from this.

I have already warned of this problem before back in the "New Release Date" forum (page 5 I think). I explained how this could have been one of the reasons the game was delayed. It has to do with the cheap lasers SONY used in the PS2's to save money. I think Jedi2016(sp?) explained that there was a problem with spooling data on the newer larger sized games. You can go back and review it yourself.

And YES, it will BREAK your PS2! But dont worry, you can send your PS2 to SONY if this happens. A lawsuit was brought against SONY because of the cheap production of the PS2's. They have to replace yours for FREE. You just have to pay for shipping.

Heres a link to the page where it was discussed:

So its for sure that they will fix my ps2 even though the seal is broken? I did not install a modchip or anything. I just got curious one night.

You can send it in anytime, even after 90 days, and they will check it for misuse. If your seal is broken I doubt they will fix it, but you can call and find out.

I sent mines in to get it fixed after having it for a year and a half. They will only fix it if your system wont read games because of the cheap laser they used.

What if you dont have the origional packaging?

Dont worry, you aren't supposed to send it in its original package(you wont get it back for some reason). You only send the console. No memory card, controllers or any wires. call them if you want to know everything.

Ok, just one more question. If I have to send in my PS2, (i plan to see if GT4 works first) when they fix it will they just clean/fix/replace the laser with an identical unit? Or, by some magical twist of logical corperate procedure, will they actualy install an adequate upgrade part? I guess the core of my concern is will I have to worry about it breaking down again after a month of playing GT4? And if so, will they even fix it again?

Ok, that was like four questions.

They must have not taken care of it. Its best not to keep the PS2 in a cramped area where the fan will just ahve the air it blew out come in.

My PS2 was a 2001 one, and it plays games like a beauty. If you take care of it, it will play.
