Classic 16-bit action-strategy game locks 'n' loads on Sony's handheld
Codemasters has announced it's resurrecting ye olde combat game Cannon Fodder, confirming a PSP version this afternoon.
An action-strategy title with humour - and a serious side! - Cannon Fodder originally unloaded clips on 16-bit and found players commanding pint-sized troops from a top-down perspective and, well, shooting **** and blowing stuff up. Codemasters' PSP reinvention retains the fast-paced action witnessed first time around but, we're told, introduces several new gameplay elements too. Oooh.
"Far from being just a pretty tribute, this new version builds on the classic tactical combat gameplay and introduces a raft of new features, such as the ability to call in air strikes, perform radar sweeps as well as unleashing a host of new weaponry including flamethrowers and sniper rifles," said the publisher laying down the Fodder law .
Codemasters has gone on to reveal that there'll be war reporting via the FTV channel "giving you a better look at the game's pintsized protagonists" and that Cannon Fodder on PSP boasts four-player link play in Deathmatch and Co-op scenarios thanks to the "wireless capability of the host consoles".
Cannon Fodder on PSP should be with us next spring. In the meantime, enjoy the first screenshots.
