New open world Star Wars game from The Division studio

DLC, patch & new cosmetics out now

I wasn't a huge fan of the Clone Wars series but I did like Hondo, happy he's making an appearance.
Being able to shot freely when on the speeder is a useful improvement. When you're out minding your own business and suddenly a death squad attacks you, its a real pain to dismount and find cover. 👍

Seems a nice little update yeah, also to switch between sidearm and 2 handed weapon.

It be cool if they had added more for speeder, like take downs, jumping on a near to you enemy speeder, with maybe a ever changing qte to push him off it, and drive their speeder.
Maybe push him when near a wall, tree or other enemy, etc.
Maybe ubi will decide it's worth pushing for a sequel. The 2nd dlc is out today, seemed cool, haven't seen any review of it yet though.
The 1st dlc seemed a measly cash in, with 2h hour max of play. Far from the massive dlcs ubi sometimes puts out.
Seems the dlc is about 5h long, not so big but ads more upgrades, challenges, functions, etc.

I've accidentally made it quite difficult to make Kay the galaxy's best Sabacc player. I've been siding mainly with the Dawn faction early on and consequently tanking rep with the Pykes; now after my first game I find that most of the card tables are in places where I get shot on sight.

It's quite unusual for me to actually like one of these card minigames, I hated Gwent for example.

I usually avoid in-game games too. Did every last scrap of mission content within Witcher 3 with the exception of anything to do with Gwent - other than what was needed to progress the main story lines.

I've not minded Sabacc, even though the rules still confuse me at times :dunce:

I'm wondering if it's maybe impossible not to be in the bad books of at least one of the factions? I've been building up intel 'chips' to sell on to the Pykes to try and raise my status with them to at least 'good', but i can't even get close enough to a trader without being shot at to do so.

Might have to look for brokers with Pyke contracts available and offset any reduction in rep it causes from the other factions with that intel i have saved up.

I've seen multiple people on Reddit and Youtube with max rep across all factions, so it is possible but it probably takes prior knowledge of all the quest rewards. I'm still trying to play mostly blind so inevitably making some poor choices. I was only a few hours in so I ended up restarting the story and am trying to keep a better balance this time (except with the Hutts, it feels lore accurate to have them sending bounty hunters after you).

The stealth stuff finally clicked (I wasn't using Nix enough previously) and it's a much better game playing it like that, rather than getting into a firefight and swarmed by a legion of stormtroopers.

Overall I'm glad I ignored the negative comments about the game in certain places and decided to give it a go. It's up there with Fallen Order/Survivor for me. Half price again on the PS Store at the moment, if anyone enjoyed the demo but hasn't bought it yet.

Nix may now have overtaken BD-1 as my favourite little Star Wars companion.

Finally managed to convince my inner completionist that we don't have to find & finish every little quest on the first planet before moving on. Now in a snowy city from one of the awful sequel films. No Keri Russell though :boggled:

Assuming you haven't already been there, just wait until you get to Tatooine, its by far the best and most familiar location in the game 👍

I'm at end game stage now but haven't played it much recently. I guess i'm reluctant for it all to end. I was the same with Cyberpunk and Witcher 3, putting off that final mission by doing all the side quests and just messing around in general.

I did manage to get maximum rep with all the factions which turned out to be fairly easy, you just need to do contracts for the faction you are seeking favor with - without turning on them when the quest is complete when a rival faction offers you more credits to double cross them. You shouldn't need the extra money. I'm at about 30,000k but have long since maxed out my ship and speeder upgrades and i'm there or thereabouts with my weapon. You just end up with nothing to spend it all on.

I am genuinely sad about that, I found Outlaws to be a very good game and I wouldn't even call myself much of a Star Wars fan to begin with. I had an absolute blast with it and I'd even say it was one of my best gaming experiences in the last year or so.

What actually went wrong, why didn't people like the game? Was stealth a turn off? Franchise fatigue? Perhaps Star Wars fans want Jedi content rather than the thief stuff? Ubisoft???

As a big Star Wars fan, I just haven't touched Outlaws at all. The first Jedi: Fallen Order game really turned me off this kind of game, I think that's the only reason to be honest.

Apart from the open world and the cute companion they have very little in common.

Fallen Order is not like Outlaws at all. That being said, I wonder what kind of game Star Wars fans really want? A new Battlefront? A KOTOR turn-based rpg? A space combat sim? A goon-gatcha game? (the Force helps us...)

As for me I would love an action/adventure game set in the Clone Wars or Rebels periods that replicates the art style of the shows.

Maybe the abandonment of the game is due to how the ip turned out in recent years, and fatigue from putting out disney stuff.
And ubi fatigue with their open world formula.

Plus the game wasn't in good shape when came out, as usual these days.

Game maybe isn't so spectacular but very well done now it seems.
Very good sw vibe, and feeling like a rogue thief adventuring, and finding opportunities, and encompasses a lot of different gameplay.

Also, ubi put it at high price, and still isn't so low on sale, they seem stubborn, shooting themselves in the foot.

I maintain the belief it caught a lot of flack being released so close to The Acolyte which was getting horrendous feedback, legitimate & illegitimate. Didn't help being a Ubisoft title either, so I caught a lot of first impressions that went in with an already sour taste because of that. Then, you had the weirdos that like to start up "political" rage bait on YouTube because Kay was not bang-able enough or whatever.

I think it was a pretty decent game. It doesn't do anything ground breaking, it's very cookie cutter/safe in approach which is something Ubisoft will do, so I don't mind folks having criticism there. But, I enjoyed it because it wasn't a Jedi game & I like that it has little easter eggs throughout it. I like that it was sort of an introduction to Han Solo's beginnings as a smuggler without it actually being Han (although, maybe it should have?). I know the stealth gameplay was a huge part of criticism for many & I think Massive tried to correct it early on by making it so you don't instant-fail the mission, but Kay also wasn't supposed to be a fighter, so it was easy for her to get quickly killed with too many enemies. Rep system was interesting, although easy to cheese a bit. The story is generic in its twists, but at the same time, passable; I didn't mind the old trope of having to save a pet or your best friend would be forced to betray you but was still saved in the end.

But, I liked it more than I thought I would. I think I got around 50 hours into it. Didn't like the space battles or Sabacc, personally. I played it through Ubisoft's subscription service as well, so $20 to play it for a month was a good deal for me who did want to play it but wasn't so sure about shelling $70 over for it.

I only recently finished it, taking my time playing through it. I can't really put my finger on why i never totally felt engaged with it, but i just never really did.

I only played the first Jedi: Fallen Order game, but got board with it about half way through. I didn't like the faux open world gameplay and they way you were forced almost back to the start of a mission when you got killed. It felt like an 80's platform game in that regard. Outlaws was much more proper open world and detail and feel-wise was probably more 'Star Wars' than Jedi: FO was.

It did have that very Ubisoft simplistic skills-tree and upgrades system though (compared to what Rockstar, Bethesda or CD Projekt puts out) and although the enviroment was nicely detailed and very SW universe, there's little reward for actually exploring it outside of a mission. Having played several FarCry titles over the past couple of years, i feel Ubisoft lag behind other studios for this - so maybe that put people off buying it?
