Ok, so I have a problem with seeing Gonales on gt5 for some reason. I cant see her, or join her games, i cant even see if she's in a lobby or not, it just says she's online.
Somebody (i forget who) said that it had to do with bandwidth. Does anybody care to explain what it is, and if theres a fix? When i create a lobby it says 'your bandwidth is normal'
I kinda need some help on this.

If you picture your internet connection as a pipe, bandwith is how wide the pipe is. If you have low bandwith, your "pipe" is small and can only let a little bit of data through at a time. If you have high bandwith, your "pipe" is wide and can download more things at once. If you can play online at all, your bandwith shouldn't affect your ability to see if someone is in a lobby or not. If someone is in an online lobby, a little yellow symbol will show up next to the coffee cup on their community page. If there isn't a little yellow symbol, than your friend is not in an online lobby, and is playing the game in another mode.

But the cup thing is never there, and shes nearly always in a lobby. I adked her one day if she was in a lobby and she said yes, and the cup thing isnt there.
If shes in a lobby and i try to join through somebody else, the error '706' comes up most of the time, or if im lucky and get into the lobby it says shes there but not on the track when she really is. Get me?

The cup should always be there, in the community section on the left side of GT Life. It is a yellow symbol in the upper right corner on the cup that only shows up when the person is in an online lobby. The symbol may not show up if the lobby is full.

Are you able to play other games online? If you are getting error codes only in GT, you may need to clear your cache. This is done by going in the options and going down to utilities I believe. It is one of menus at the bottom of the options.

Open a lobby and ask your friend to try joining you. See if she can.

Yes i know what the cup and everything is.
I dont think she can.
I can play other games online but never played another game with her.
I havnt tried clearing the cache yet. Ill do it, but i doubt thats it.
Thanks for your help anyway.

That's what she said? :D

Ah, lighten up! And no, I don't have that problem. Nothing beats a direct ethernet connection with lots of bandwidth.

FTR - his analogy was spot on.

Ok, this is not going to be bandwidth related...
( so I'd change your thread title for more advice)

Note, I'm not claiming t be an expert on ps3 or gt5, so someone else may be able to help more ( I do however know networking very well ;))

Anyway, It is much more likely to be related to the 'type' of connection you have ...

You need to check if you and your friend have nat type 1, 2 or 3
1 = direct connection to Internet, no firewall
2 = thru firewall/router, but 'open' to all ports required
3 = connected, but some ports closed , so limited capabilities

For zero issues either you or your friend need nat type 1 or 2
(gt5 does tell you you have 'limited' if you are using nat 3)

If you both have nat 3, then you will find that you can both join other sessions (as long as host nas 1/2) , but you won't be able to host yourself.

First you should determine if the above is really the issue...
(you don't say if both you and your friend are able to connect to other gt5 sessions, you need to test this)

Next,If it is, then you will need to search on here and google, on how to get rid of nat 3 for ps3... There is a huge amount of advice out there, and it's tricky so I'm not going to repeat it here

Hope this helps

Mods: looks like you moved this out of gt5 qa, I would change the title.. But it's is very much a gt5 related issue imho

I have nat3 and constantly play with nat2 and nat1 mates, so not sure on that one. What I do when these problems come...

clear ps3 cache
reboot ps3
reboot router
make sure torrents and such are off

Exactly! They have open nat, so it works , if you all had nat 3 it won't.

I'm assuming from a network level what happens is the nat1/2 hosts, and nat3 are clients.. This works, as only the host has to accept inbound connections, nat3 clients just connect.
(web analogy, nat 3 can connect to web sites, but could not host one)

Oh yeah, should have added. Im nat type 2 so i dont think that would be it. I reastart the router like every 2 days so thats not the problem. Ill try clearing the system cache, and ill let you know.

Sorry to come to this late but I play online and find that many groups/lounges insist on NAT2 for consistency. My settings defaulted to NAT2 from day one so I've left it as is. You can also put your PS3 into a DMZ via your router for added connection stability, i.e block out unnecessary internet traffic, although this doesn't sound like your issue. See http://bit.ly/d0vta1

Can you connect to other users and lounges? If so, it could be her.

Could she be trying to avoid you? . . . . only joking! ;)

Everyone was right!
I cleared the cache and its working perfectly. And everythings working better, less time loads etc...
Thanks to everybody who helped me on this. :)

Ok, so I can open lobbies and lounges obviously as n3 and others can join no problems(speaking from our tollorence dealing with pd online) are you saying if one of my friends is nat3 and no one else is in my lobby that he will not be able to join? This is interesting to me as I've often seen these 'network incompatable' error, 706's and a few others. Another error I see when trying to join usually large public lobbies "unable to join do to host network incompatability"

Aaargh, why oh why? it's so annoying sometimes

Another. When shes hosting i cant join.
"Entry was refused due to network incompatibility with the room owner. [706]
i dont know. Her nat type is 2.
