Based off the races we did last night with weak and strong draft, I'd say the weak draft is probably more accurate & realistic, however the strong draft sure was a lot of fun.

I agree the weak setting is the better way to go, but I had a blast running with the strong setting... I couldn't imagine running the strong draft with a full room!

I could go either way with the draft but the weak is definitely more realistic.

After last night's session I learned a couple of things. First, if you go inside someone on one of the two corners, make darn sure you can hold your line. It isn't like a little bump in a second gear corner, where you hear some metal on metal but everyone is basically unscathed. At this track, at these speeds, even a small rub can cause someone to be into the grass in no time. If you go inside, hold your line. Likewise, if you're forced to run outside, make darn sure you don't turn sharply into someone inside of you, as that also can cause you to be into the grass quite easily.

Second, if you battle with another driver, it will cost you a great deal of time on the track. If you get a bit isolated from the pack, either in front or in back, and want to battle lap after lap, go for it, but it will cost you a couple of seconds a lap easily and will also allow someone to catch you fairly easily, even without benefit of the draft. Small errors on corners or slightly imperfect entry angles here translate into big time losses in total lap time. So if you're running second and third separate from the pack behind you, and want to secure your positions, think long and hard about your racecraft and whether you signal the other driver to watch his mirrors every corner by trying to pass every corner, because it could cost both of you in the end.

Brandon, I downloaded the track from you but when I practiced on it last night, it's sunny but raining and I can't turn the rain off. Anyone else have that problem? Am I missing something? (and no, the answer isn't in the tire wear being off....lol)

My Internet was off this morning, did some check before work and it isn't my router or my machine, so hopefully it is just a service issue with my provider that will be fixed before I get home. If not, I most likely wont be able to race or do much else :(

What are we running tonight?

Let's discuss this. Due to the nature of the track I think a weak draft is going to be better, should help prevent chaos. The track is plenty long enough to pull off a pass with the weak draft but it doesn't give you large increases in speed that can lead to ruin.

Connection seemed pretty stable on my end last night but we didn't have very many people in the room either. It was an open-lobby with Fixed Host status, only got 1 or 2 Random's wandering in. We'll do it that way again tonight.

I ended up having to advance the time to 19:30 hours to get rid of the rain, as I couldn't adjust the weather setting either...

Sorry about that bump last night, I was jamming the brakes but the draft just kept pulling me a long and I couldn't turn. :(

The rain at Toscana is a new bug with Spec 2, it is not in the options but it can now randomly start raining on the custom tracks that aren't supposed to have rain. In my experience though it is visual only and doesn't have any effect on grip or track surface. It also seems that simply resetting the track fixes it. Last night after the custom track loaded I went back to the track options and changed the time progression (which reset the track) in the hopes it would prevent any rain and it seemed to work. So it shouldn't be anything to worry about for the race tonight. 👍

I wasn't referring to that incident actually, but the time I punted DSG off the track trying to go three wide in the first corner with me the white in the middle of the oreo. I thought I barely touched him and he ended up in the long stuff. I don't rememeber you hitting me...lol.

I'll try the time progression thing or resetting the track. I'd like to believe the rain during the sunshine doesn't affect grip anyway, but with GT5 what you think is logical isn't always true...lol. Like toggling tire wear as off in Spec 2, instead of on...lol.

I can confirm it doesn't effect grip. I was running there last week with somebody and when it started raining our lap times didn't change at all and there was zero difference in "feeling". I'm pretty sure it's a purely visual phenomena.

Based of the early feedback, we will run with the "weak" slipstream option this week for the oval.

I also experienced this rain-issue on my first private lounge after downloading the track.
But I did definitely felt an serious degradation of the grip.! :nervous:

At first, I didn't feel any lose of the grip, but after getting used to the track and starting to do some adjustments on the setup of the car, about 45 minutes into the session, I seriously experienced that the grip was affected.

At first I thought it was just my setup-tweaks starting to act weird, but after some more desperate adjustments just trying to stop the wheel-spin (in a cappuccinno..!! 👍) that has started to occur in 2. and even 3. gear on straight-road acceleration, I finally realized it was due to the track getting more and more wet...

Got safe back to the pit, changed to full rain-tires, and I was now back on my initial times..

So the weather definitely has impact, even if it is not obvious from the start...!

Now you have me nervous. I'm pretty sure that cycling the track fixes it though, and we won't be running for 45 minutes so hopefully there won't be any issues. We drove around for 15-20 minutes in the example I mentioned above and our lap times were still decreasing as our tires warmed up.

I'll do a couple tests after work tonight to be sure. We DON'T want rain on an oval.

I definitely noticed a difference in the grip level with the rain, or I was just psyching myself out and running worse laps... lol :dunce:

Well if it is raining in Toscana we should head north and get some belgian waffles. Hey-o!!!!

Kind of a noob question here, but how does one go about downloading a track?
I need to get ajt least a couple of laps in before Friday.

Edit: With the rain I think there is an indicator on the HUD that will show you how much rain is on the track, I haven't seen it though so I'm not sure.

Who qualified on pole for Friday and Saturday's races? I am updating the Google docs to help Brandon out.

Thanks Brosif, I've been dealing with insurance companies over the last week and haven't found time to get them updated. My apologies. I was planning on doing it wen I got back from lunch today though so don't worry about it if you're too busy. DSG was on pole both nights...........greedy.

Not a big deal. It's done.

Go to the Community tab in GTLife and click on my name (like you're going to my lounge). Once my name is highlighted you will see a track icon towards the lower left corner. Click on that and you'll see the track, follow instructions from there.

The HUD indicator that shows surface water is only available on proper weather-change tracks, the custom Toscana track is not supposed to have rain as an option so it doesn't have that indicator.

Well the rain shouldn't be too much of a problem. Just keep a steady eye on the rain and ease off the throttle if you feel yourself getting a little slick. Depending on the race length and whether it's long enough for the rain to have an effect you'll at least need intermediate tires.

I have no problem with rain, it's the banking that causes tire issues, not the fact that it's an oval.

The OP's are updated with points, results and all the necessary goodies. :) Sorry for the delay.

Anyone else in the NA market purchase their DLC and have it not download? I got the bonus content but not the purchased content... FML

Seems to be happening to everyone. Haven't bothered trying myself yet.

Yeah good call, too bad i didnt read further in that thread before spending the money.

Some of the people in the general population are starting to get rabid, it's pretty funny actually... lol

Yeah, I do enjoy watching chase their tails and get all angry because they didn't get exactly what they wanted the very instant they wanted it. They also seem to think that everything is permanent/final; "This feature I want isn't here and now we'll never hear from Sony/PD again! Why must they hate ME??"

Not sure what's going on, I'm waiting till it's sorted before I try to purchase it though. I'd guess the amount of traffic is causing a delay in sending the "ok to unlock DLC" signal to individual PS3's. We already know the network has been struggling over the last week anyway. It will be sorted soon, still kind of a kick in the nuts though.

Well now we know why the delayed it a week...lol. Maybe they should have delayed it another week or two to sort out the bugs. :nervous:

I had a random thought "why would it have a rating of 3/5, smth must be screwed up", but it didn't stop me from pressing the "click here for instant gratification" aka "buy" button. Lol.
P.S. restarted the PS3 and my DLC is now delivered.

Haha, I would have done the same thing you did, great that it got delivered.

The Race Lounge is OPEN! I hope you all did your anti-rain dance.

And yes...........................I have SPA!!
