Hi guys,

Some time ago I got myself a very cheap Capture card off eBay, Pinnacle miro PCTV or something like that, 7,55 including shipping. The bad part is that I got no drivers for it.....Do problem, downloaded and installed drivers and the PCTV Vision Software.

For playing I only use DScaler 4.18 👍 , but I'd also like to capture some drift videos.....Only that when I hit record on the PCTV software, the screen, where the PS2 is displayed goes black and stays so......when I press stop, it all comes back again !!

So It's impossible to capture with PCTV Vision, the capturing of DScaler uses a lot of CPU and when I press record I get like 10 fps.....

i'd like to ask you which software do you use and if capture software is compatible from a capture card to another. Thanx a lot :)

PS: I use S-Video if this helps

edit: sorry, dont know how this happened, this isnt my thread, my reply got posted 2x, once infront of and once behind the topic post :boggled:

this was probably posted in th wrong forum, but whatever

personally, i use VirtualDub
its a great program. I find it does a better job of capturing than most commercial programs, and best of all IT'S FREE!!!

it only allows you to capture as an AVI, but any video editing program can take your raw capture and convert it and compress it later.

also, with VirtualDub, use the huffuv codec. It claims to provide lossless quality, and it is no joke - however, you'd better have some hd space available. I've rendered some 2min captures with the huffyuv codec as YUY2 format avi and it takes up 2gig's. (this can later be compressed into a great looking wmv of about 20megs). It does a great job, I've done several captures with it, and still havent skipped any frames. 👍

-note: i found these pieces of software after doing the vid in my sig, so it is not an example of their capabilities. If you would like an example, flag me down on AIM and i'll find one to share

btw, i use a PCI ATI TV-Wonder-Pro, system is a P4 1.7GHz, 200gb HD, 768mb DDR ram, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card, and more other fun stuff that doesnt necessarily affect capturing

:scared: should this be reported? Anyways can't help all I got is my X-Port. But why would you trust a capture card off of ebay you bought for $7

Hi guys and thanx for the tips, I'll try them tomorrow after school.....

Why?? This is the link to the auction
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38864&item=5151308315

It only says the name of the card and a photo. That's all......I know Pinnacle were a great Company for Capture cards and I saw on the pic that this one had s-video, and the transport costed uninsured only 2 euros, hell, if I lose 7.50 it's not the end of the world, but if it does work, I'll be more than happy to pay 7.50 instead of 42.95 for it, right :) ??

And it did work flawlessly, proving that Germany sometimes makes you feel good :P

PS: The guy who sold it to me was acutally a lady.....so.....her technical capabilities were.....uh.....fairly limited :)

hrm, thats a bit over presumptious

i hope women and your fellow germans alike dont take offence to your supposition, whether they're meant to be taken only in jest or not

i'd like to add for the record, that you're also encountering difficulties getting it to operate to your own preference :sly:

give virtualdub a try. the software that's provided by the manufacturer is typically good, but not great, and generally lacking in flexibility. Afterall, their expertise is in the hardware end. (granted that i havent used a pinnacle card before)

Sorry about that.....but when you have no idea of what you're selling, you could at least type the name of the product in google, copy and paste the description and that's all.......By doing this she could have sold the card for I'd say 15-20 euros..... And another thing, my preference is a couple of levels higher than hers :guilty: :dunce:

But the thing with Germans is that I ADMIRE them, not anything else 👍

As i said, I'll surely give it a try, but tomorrow..... Have a good night and a nice monday morning :) :dopey: And thanx again for the help 👍
