Could this be related to the bug where car exhaust sounds don't seem to start playing until a short time has passed? Sometimes, you can start a race and get only gearbox/wind/tyre/turbo noise, and no actual car sound. This would explain the different sounds while remaining in the same camera view.

that will be it, i didn't know there was that kind of bug, but it's exactly as you discribed it, at first you here the things you name and later on its the actual car sound.
it's not in every car, and not on every track.
yesterday i only drove the Minolta and the audi R10 and it never happened

This is unfortunately a bug from GT5 that still hasn't been fixed

I dislike how cars all sound the same with a racing exhaust. A Shelby GT 350 with uncorked exhaust does not sound like a tuned EVO!!!! You lose all the V8 rough rumble with a racing exhaust.

I have noticed after driving in an electric race that the first half a lap in a gasoline engine car I have no engine sound. So definately a bug in there.

I notice that it's difficult to hear your own car when you are driving close to other cars. That's whether at the start of the race, or later in the race.

It's a similar effect to the sound going away after you hit a wall or other object. The engine sound goes away fro a few seconds after a big wall hit. That also happened on GT5.
