tuning a car isnt always about power
its also the handling and the braking
I always try to tune the suspensions first then buy my self new set of brakes and then move onto lvl 1 weight reduction

of you got that right...you might not even need to increase power

so you need to be good at adjusting suspension levels and also understand weight tranfer

I always enjoyed tuning a car cause there are somany ways to balance your car and handle just right:)
Thats one thing I forgot to add in mine, the brakes.

Heres hoping that us in the rest of the world will get GT4 before March :)

With the whining sound from the gearbox thats the price you have to pay for the fully custemizable gearbox. All competition boxes do this, as the teeth on the gears a straight cut, instead of helical cut for the gears on a normal road car; apart from 1st and reverse. The reason this is because straight cut gears are a lot stronger than helical cut which are a lot quieter than straight cut. Hence why they are used on road cars. But because of the gearing on road cars, and the torque both first and reverse are straight cut. If you listen cars, they whine more in first than any other gear, and a definate whine in reverse because of a second straight cut cog to make the wheels drive in reverse.

HYDE have you opened extreme hall yet, perhaps more difficult events with quicker AI will be present there, crosses fingers! or have you raced any super license events?
Also how hard is the Arcade mode when you crank up the AI to fast?
Do you still need to make the weight/power handicaps to give yourself a challenge.

not yet, i need to beat beginner hall and professional hall first

i havnt been doing K-Car race or Truck race yet... not much interest in those...been buying new cars and doing lapping days with them most of the time

To tell you all the truth. I dont play gt4 to race. I play gt4 to drive. to me, gt4 is the test driver's game. I get more enjoyment driving on a track than racing against 5 other cars.

So you have GT4? ;)

But indeed, my attitude towards GT3 is somewhat the same. But isn't it so that Polyphony have made racing less attractive because of GT3? I also, often just use GT3 for time trials or just to drive a specific car just for fun. But if Polyphony had made a better AI or more rewarding gameplay during a race, maybe the attitude of many people towards GT3 would be very different.

Off course, the "test drivers" among us have the best game they can get, but many people also buy the game to race. For those people that aspect has to be just as well implemented.

I hope that GT4 will be somewhere in between. Rewarding races mixed with a virtual driving experience that gives me the feeling like I am driving the cars for real. Both are equally important for me.

Modifying cars in GT4 not fun?! Hang on a minute, you ARE joking aren't you?

Also has anyone noticed that GT4 prologue NY track looks better than NY track on GT4? Check it out for yourselves! The textures are mushy on GT4 NY track!

No 1080i for you i take it?

Maybe its all part of the game. Cars are never that easy to tune to perfection as they are in GT3. GT4 might actually show where cars can be made weak aswell as strong. Im not a tuning buff, but the fact that you say its not even worth doing makes me want to do it even more. I want to find that setting that makes the car drive and feel more fun that in its original form. Be daring i say.

Graphic wise, do exhausts and intercoolers get added to the car when you purchase them????

I am very surprised if you beat the AI like you say you do, then your REAL good!!!Cos when you drive a car simular to the AI you are gonna have a hard time. But whats cool is that you can enter races whith a slover car, then you got your hands full :scared: I love it 👍

Actually, straight-cut gears are run to minimize power loss, they are not stronger than helical cut gears. Straight-cut gears only have 1 tooth engaged at a time, helical has around 1.5 teeth engaged. Helical cut losses power because the gears are always trying to push away from each other.

Also since purchasing My DFP andPrologue, I really wasnt bothered you couldnt tune the cars, It was so much more challenging trying to extract faster and faster times out of those stock cars, with there sloppy suspensions and shabby brakes.

I'm with you on this one... I have built a cockpit/car for my DFP and Prologue and often have a couple of friends over to compete to see who can extract the fastest time with a certain car. I've built an an Access database where we store fastest times and is a source of great rivalry between us.

All I am really missing at the moment is some additional circuits and more than 2 laps at a time. For me there is more than enough challenge with the cars in Prologue.

If the AI cars are too slow, use a slower car. Duh. I could use the Toyota GT One Road Car in most, if not all, of the Pro League races in GT3. Why? Because using a car similar to what the AI had wasn't any fun. It gave me a huge advantage.

Tuning cars not fun? It's not really suppose to be. It's supposed to help you set your car up to handle the way you would like it to. Are you saying that is gone? I'm getting confused to what you're saying. Get a slower car, tune it to handle better and race that against the AI. Now that sounds like fun to me.

Hey has the actual engine note of cars change sound after tuning, i mean many of the cars in gt3 didnt really change, the cars them just only went faster, thats was about it for around about half cars in gt3.

Straight cut gears are stronger.

We start not liking tuning after having the experience of driving cars like a full-tuned GTO in GT3. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! that car, and so many others were just a piece of crap when tuned. If you guys remember, tuning stock cars in the original gt was a blast. The top performance car of that game, was the R33, was a tuned stock car. Well that was not the case in GT2, and they make it worse in GT3. I mean, tuning is suposed to be fun, but tuning your ride to discover that it is just a piece of crap is a major turn off. Those who like to go fast, or the ones that love setting lap records, will only drive LM editions, or racing cars... looks like stock cars are becoming useless in GT (if you care about performance, that was the case in gt3, don´t know yet about gt4). This is just whining from myself... i wanted badly that stock cars have good performance and good handling, but it seems like we´re stuck with the race cars... Not tuning my car? that´s always an option, to have some sort of challenge in the game, but what´s left for the faster cars? just cruise? it should´t be like that...

I do agree with Fasj6418, Another thing that i was unhappy about was that in GT3, when you do tune a car up to crazy power levels, the sound of the car ( at 1000bhp+ ) didnt even change much at all.
the GTO at 1000 bhp sounded like my dads lawn mower.

So tuning doesn't seem fun anymore even if you don't modify a car's horsepower (transmission, tires, brakes, etc)?

You have to remember that just because you can tune a car up, doesn't mean you should. The GTO is probably a perfect example of this.. a car that wasn't meant to be tuned up to insane levels, because the car itself just isn't capable of handling it.

I just took a drive in one in GT3, there's nothing horrible or useless about it. A touch of understeer, maybe, but there are ways around that.

The point is, as was mentioned earlier (in the start of the thread, in fact), that a lot of times it's better to just leave the car as-is... enjoy it for what it is, not what you want it to be.

guess you´re right... in the original gt i think players were allowed to tune to insane levels because of the lack of racing cars... i even think that one of the reasons that we have racing modification, was because of the lack of the real racing cars... something that has gradually cut down in each gt. As the game becomes more realistic, the tuning requires more attention. But even knowing that, i still think that a tuned GTO should be able to beat a lupo cup car... (just a random example, don´t lash out at me, VW lovers) Point is, i thought they exagerated in gt3... but everyone likes gt in its own way...

some cars already handel well as he said in the first post that neither the M5 or SLR need tunning because they were fun as they were ,that actually makes the game better and more real, because as i read from mags the new M5 is agreat handler better than E55 AMG and better than the masarati

I was looking forward to tuning the E30, 325i preferrably, but it's not even in the game. Not even the M3 is in. (which I would have left stock btw) :scared:
I will however try tuning the s**t out of the Volvo 245! :sly:

I agree. In GT1 & 2, I enjoyed the racing a lot. Since GT3, only races I enjoy anymore are against another person. With the GT3, I've just enjoyed driving, record lap times, testing cornering limits, replays, etc.

I agree when i was a younger and played GT1 and GT2 I wanted a lot of money to tune fast cars, but now I reallly want to improve as an actual driver in the game and actually learn how to corner properly while still pushing the limits.

The M3 is in. Multiple versions.

Yeah, the E46 M3. Not E30 or E36...
Since the MB 190E 2.5 16v is in, I think the E30 M3 should have been as well. Being old DTM rivals and all. :)
