Car tuning doesnt seem fun anymore

Yeah, the E46 M3. Not E30 or E36...
Since the MB 190E 2.5 16v is in, I think the E30 M3 should have been as well. Being old DTM rivals and all. :)

well, tuning for gt3 required a bit more knowledge/skill than gt2.. You couldnt just bolt on a turbo and suspension and and the works, make a few changes, and expect the thing to handle and go like a demon. With proper tuning, the 3000GT max tuned was a good car. đź‘Ť I even made a 300BHP integra that had pretty good cornering and performace (though i have to admit i like using stock or lightly modified cars more) I also love using sim tires since it makes the game a bit harder and feel more like Live For Speed :)


GT4 should be even more realistic and require more carefull tuning when upgrading parts. Hopefully SUbaru's will actually be slower without carefull tuning like in real life.

I'm just annoyed other people have gt4 and I dont just because I'm american... Racist PD :dopey:
 
Where I have personally always had the most fun in the GT series is with taking a completely dreadful japanese daily car, and turning it into a track weapon - the Mazda Demio GL-X for example in GT3 is fantastic when fully abused with tuning parts, I love that aspect of the game, taking zeros, to heros! I even started writing a GT3 FAQ with that name covering some of the most unlikely cars in the game.

With maskriders second hand car screenshots, the Nissan Bluebird, Honda City Turbo-2, and the Midgets are all going to get the dan0h-track-toy treatment!

I guess though, GT is what you make it, because of its size and diversity if you enjoy thrashing the a$$ off the stock cars, you can do that, if you want to tune, you can do that - it works on so many levels because the game can be all you want it to be.

All I care is that there is a supply of really bad cars to work with! :D
 
i see in 1 screenshot that there is a tuning option about reinforced bodies ( roll cage ) if u install it do u actually see the roll cage like in rally cars, any info wud b good .
 
I don't know about seeing a roll cage but it stiffens up your car so it improves handling, weight transfer under acceleration and braking and that sort of thing.
 
the min'es skyline must be one of the best tuned cars they made it broke a lap record on it's time and is also featured in a MUST SEE best motoring video, I already couldn't wait to play it, what you said in the 1st post is teasing me even more gniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii can't wait to play it and feel the "even the dead would be scared" performance lol they say something like that in the best motoring video hehe

To tell you all the truth. I dont play gt4 to race. I play gt4 to drive. to me, gt4 is the test driver's game. I get more enjoyment driving on a track than racing against 5 other cars.

That's why is called the real driving simulator. Driving and watching is really adored by autophiles. The overall package will be awesome.

Tuneing your car has always and still is much better than a Factory bought car, To build a thread based on not being able to tune a car is sad, Just ask for settings!
 
the Mines skyline was uber resonsive, and its got so much power that sometimes you just gotta go slideways through some corners. the car begs for it :) The thing i loved about it most was just how freaking responsive and smooth the engine was, it felt like a smooth infinite power. steady torque. :) well.. at least it was like that in gt3. Cant wait to attack the nurburgring with that.. and Also im gonna tune a 360BHP 2nd gen MR2 and drive it on the ring.... :drool: goddamnit, i gotta stop coming here. i WANT GT4!!!! AHH!!!

i dont look into tuning stock cars any more. i just go ahead and buy a car that is faster in its stock form

in GT4, most of the cars are really fun to drive in their stock form. like the Mine's R34, the mines setting is already really fast, adding the stage 4 turbo making it 800HP doesnt help much. due to the huge turbo lag the stage 4 gives, the Mine's original setting was much better.

some cars like BMW M5, SLR, you dont even want to touch their setting, cuz its already very fast and fun to drive.


so i guess no able to use tuned cars in Arcade mode isnt that much of an lost, because stock cars are still very fun to drive.

also, tuning ur car is quite useless.... your opponents usually just drive a stock car. and the AI suck so bad that they can still be 30 seconds behind u even if they drive the same car as u

edit: the only great thing about tuning car is the racing exhaust!

Question real quick. Is there any mode in which you can drive your modified cars alone on any course you like? because apparently you can't in arcade mode.

Have any of you guys played GT4 yet??? Ive been playing it for 3 weeks and I can tell you this:

1. Firstly, you NEED the force-feedback wheel. The physics of GT4 mean is just too bloody hard to drive fast with a DS2

2. Driving against AI with exactly the same stock car as you does not equal easy win. You have to get your braking timing right on EVERY corner, hit EVERY apex, and be efficient with gear changes (refer point 1.). However, this does vary depending on what area of the game you are playing in.

3. Tuning makes a HUGE difference to a cars' performance. This point is WAY more advanced than GT3. Once you can master the physics (point 2.) you will find that careful tuning, specific to car AND track is absolutely necessary. You even have such options as the addition of front/rear ballast to adjust the inertial shift into corners, often increasing/decreasing understeer. I race REAL cars on REAL tracks here in Japan (I own a 1996 RX7, friends own a 1994GTR and EVOIV, we have track day about once a month), and I can tell you that the suspension tuning in GT4 is as important as out in the real world.

4. The Nitro tuning option in cool as hell. You can control the boost you get, usually 50-100hp squirts. You get about 10-20secs of nitro each race. Just enough to squeeze that difficult pass down the straight.

Regarding the stock vs tuned argument: One nice aspect to GT4 is the A-spec points. The points on each race are weighted to how close in tune your car is to the AIcars. So, its easy to win most races once you've got together some capital, but your points will be low. Also, most of the present cars are actually useful, unlike in GT2 and GT3 where the present car would be perfect for the race you just won to get it........
 
i know exactly what you mean. In GT3 i drove a maxed out R34 to win races, but that got boring. Eventually i just bought a silvia s13 and left it completely stock. Went out onto complex string with the traction control off and had a blast(which im still doing, with rx7s and such).

My worst fears have been relised. I dont see the point in shelling out 300bucks (AUD) to buy a steering wheel I will only use on GT4 ( I hardly ever play computer).

If you are 30 secs in front of the A1 why don't you de tune your car in line with the cars you are racing! Put some road tyres on and then see how far you get.

I thought the Tuning bit was one of the most appealing bit about GT3/GT4 driving 'Simulator'

...............or maybe just go round in an oval sort of faction, what you need is F1 04' then you will really see what tuning does.

I suppose if I had GT4 at this point in time my comments would be relevant!

Hmm..well imo, it is harder to tune your car in gt4. In gt3, I can usually get it done in a while. But I've been trying really hard to get my shigeno run properly in gt4, but it just grips to the ground like a fricking nut!! (ok, i'm a drifting whore :P) Or maybe it's because I don'tk now how to read chinese :P. But heck the whole point of me playing the game is to tune the damn car. How many racing games actually allow you to do that, and to do so to such level of detail?
 
OK, the whole business of saying that some of the cars in GT4 with a stock set-up can not run any better and should not be messed with is nonsense.

A car's many, many tuning options are characteristic to the track's length, surface, inclines/declines, camber, the type of turn and straight etc. (it goes on and on) Even 2 years after playing GT3 there was always something new that could be tweaked and adjusted to improve performance on a specific track. It's also down to how the player drives, his style and control configuration.

That's where the beauty of GT series lies. All the performance parts on a specific car can be bought in days but the tuning art can take weeks. I remember the Lotus Esprit in GT3 being a nightmare to drive in stock form and also it being nearly impossible to find a light universal tune. But I managed to tune that car for Midfield, so good that nothing could stand in it's way.;) In fact it was just such a pleasure to see friend tell me that a car could not perform well on a particular track, only for me to go away and come back with a set-up that defied belief.

As for the Turbo lag again that is nonsense, because once bought those can then be adjusted to reduce the Turbo lag but still give a significant increase in performance. However, again this tuning comes in relation to the track the race will take place on.

Off-Topic I did a review of Forza Motorsport Demo on the "Forza" thread and some moron called me a Forza Fan. The only racing game I ever got into was the GT series so how on earth could I be a fan for a game that has not even been released.:dopey:
 
Based on Post #78 by Sukebe (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1401026&postcount=78), Subeke seems to sound like tuning IS fun, just that some people don't really get a kick out of modifying car settings. What I learned in GT3 is that when I raced the JGTC-style race series in GT3 (Amateur Mode in this example), you don't have to go for the Stage 4 Turbo for turbocharged cars. In fact, I still won the race using the Pennzoil Skyline GT-R with the stock 490-something horsepower. Sometimes you can win stock, sometimes you can't. I look at it like this. To be better safe than sorry for a race series that doesn't involve Normal Cars, tune things up. You'd rather have slight advantages than none at all. So give tuning a chance. The biggest load of crap would be "it's better tuning in other racing games, but not in Gran Turismo 4." We don't have to bring a GT4 vs. xxxx deal.

No car is perfect. Do you want a car with low horsepower and sluggish acceleration on a fast track? Do you want a car with high horsepower and rapid acceleration on a slow track? You have to learn to adjust to new situations. No car is perfect for every track and situation. Why do you think race car teams prepare their cars for each track they go to? In traditional American racing, you don't take a Martinsville configuration to Daytona. In international racing, a Monza configuration won't work at Monte Carlo. A Le Mans configuration won't do you any good at Motorsport Land. Okay, maybe not fun, but at least you think about how you're supposed to tune your car to take advantage of all the track possible. There's going to be some trial and error in tuning, and part of the fun is knowing that it is you have to do to make things work. And if that's not fun, I don't know what is. Maybe you're not trying too much. I don't know. Tuning is still fun regardless.
 
i always enjoyed to tuned the already-tuned cars like the spoon's / mine's... why? simply because after i while i was so bored beating the other same cars i took a stock spoon's S2000 and raced it agaist rally cars, or even in the euro league's to keep a challenge in gt3
 
Does any one know how far the audi A4 DTm can be tuned, and if i used lowering weight, and other springs and exhaust, if i can still use that car ( tuned) in 2 player mode.. thanks already..
 
ive already completed a fair ammount of the game in 5 days (like 5%, 3 licences) and i havent realy needed to do any hardcore tuning (i only bought parts, no real tuning). i just find that tuning is somthin i do when im realy realy bored and beaten most of the game. basicly just needless ****ing around with the settings to make my car screwed up.
