I know that there's a thread on the wrst car sounds, though this one is reserved for cars which have engines sounding nothing like their cylinder numbers:mad: (Mods can move this or lock if they feel this thread is unnecessary)

- Enzo Ferrari- Sounds like a V8, when it should be a V12
- Ferrari 599 GTB- Same as the Enzo
- Formula GT- It's a V12 spinning at 18500rpm, should sound like one.
- GT by Citroen road car- The car has a V8 in real life, yet it sounds like a V10
- Corvette C6 RM- Generic engine sound from GT3, similar to a V6

Any others?

You'd be better of asking which cars sound accurate. That list should be fairly short.

I used to think it was funny, but now it's become plain annoying:grumpy:

You should remember how the Gallardo sounded in the GT5 demos, atleast they fixed that and let it sound like a proper V10.

i think the kubelwagon sounds pretty accurate. GOD DAMN DOES THAT THING PURRRRR. such a sexy car. I love how at low revs in 1st gear it sounds like its about to stall.

Have to add:

Lamborghini Murciélago (both of them): Sound more like V10s:mad:

The Pug 908 sounds pretty accurate, although it's a bit too high-pitched compared to the real one. Same with the R10 Tdi

Well... Most turbocharged cars in GT5 sound like:
Uweeeeeee fft; uweeeeeeeeeee fft; uweeeeeeeeeeee...

While in real life, the car would sond more like:
Bwoooooaa zyou; bwoooooooaaaa zyou; bwoooooooaaaaaa...

You get the idea :dopey:
And don't get me started on bigger engines...

When you get in the 458 the engine starts and sounds more like a 4. I was wondering whether the real car has a flat plane crank as that kills the V8 "burble".

I was doing the Lupo race in the 1.4 model (the one you win, of course!) with a suitably upgraded car (with Racing Exhaust) and it sounded seriously rough. That is the worst sounding upgraded car I have got.

Yeah, the 458 has a flatplane crank in real life, they managed to get the sound right for it at least.

A few of the cars sound like they're backfiring at lower revs.

Take a listen to the Mclaren MP4-12C, it does sound like a V8 although they probably used a hoover to record it:yuck:

Zonda R- yet another V12 which sounds like a V10.

If the cars (specially the race cars) in GT5 would sound like they do in real life on the track, then 95% of the players of this game would start crying like little girls while ******** their pants.

That's why it sounds off.

Why? Because the cars don't sound like a six year old imitating the engine sounds of a Hot Wheels car anymore?

Brilliant

I never notice if any cars sound off in GT5. I'd say only a small fraction of players ever would. Those with a trained ear, I guess...

Personally, I think it's because most people haven't heard a lot of the cars.
Sure, we all know cars like the 458 from Top Gear, but I doubt a lot of people ever heard, say, an STi...
If you're a major car nut, chances are, you will have heard one, even if it's only on YouTube videos that you've looked up...

And there's always a difference between a car sounding off, and a car sounding horrible. While sounding off is okay if the car still sounds good, that's one thing. If the car sounds both off and horrible, though... Yuk.

The FGT is an excellent example, it sounds both off and horrible:yuck:

THIS is what it should sound like as a V12 at 18,500rpm

:drool::drool::drool:

In fairness though, the FGT has never existed in real life. But I know what you're saying, and the videos you posted are of similar engines.

No, that's not what I mean.

When, by example, a DTM car in this game would sound like a real one, and it would drive at top speed through a tunnel or down the straight with your big soundsystem at the proper level, it would let the blood spit out of your ears. So to speak, would scare the crap out of most of the players.

The bigger picture: what I mean is that this is a game and it will never be like real life. It will never be a 100% correct and complete experience. It comes at the price of $50 dollars or so, and provides lots of fun and playtime for that money. One round of drinks in a bar could also set you free of $50 dollars so to speak.

If you want cars sounding like they're supposed to, then go to the circuit or go buy a supercar, but don't expect it from a console game :p

No because some games can get some cars right, as does GT5 getting some car's right. So it is possible.
As for being $50, it's only $50 because of the mass market for it, with 5million people expected to buy it and $80 million spent. You can see there is $170million buffer of profit to pour say $10-20 million on outrageous sounds without needing to charge more than $50.
If they only expected 1 million people to purchase but were still spending $80 million then they would charge more than $50 US obviously. I thought economics was taught at school ? :P

I like your bar example but it is a big long stretch to compare a round of drinks to a video game marketed to millions.

With today's technology i think it is definitely not un-reasonable to expect some very high quality, accurate sounds coming through our HDMI cables into our surround sound.

Wow, this thread is a whiner-magnet. Most of the cars sound fine and car XYZ missing a couple of frequencies in the 120-200Hz band is not even close to being detrimental to the fun of driving it.

Just turn up the music and stop moaning about trivialities.

To keep the answer short:
The same could be said about everything in the game.
Want cars that look like the real thing? Buy the real thing.
Want a car with proper physics? Buy the real thing.

By that logic, we might as well throw the whole 'simulator' idea out of the window.

I think that nobody would touch GT5 if the graphics were as inacurate as the sound. Bear with me on this; only a very few cars sound right. Now, what if only a very few cars looked right? Some have wrong bumpers, wrong headlights, wrong interiours. And some look like something straight out of a nightmare.

Personally, I don't get why sound is disregarded in comparision to the looks.

Most of the cars sound fine in GT5? Bad sounds are not detrimental? If you're from Mars that is.

Engine sound is an extremely important part of the experience in a driving game. If other games can get it almost spot-on, why can't PD? I'm guessing that you wouldn't mind even if PD actually recorded their engine sounds using hoovers (some cars do, actually).

I can never understand you fanboys:indiff:

Trust me i'm the first one to have a moan about other people whining, but sound is half the experience for me. If the sound isn't right then the whole time your driving your left with that " what if " feeling.......

Yeah.. I fully agree sound is important, and without a rumbling engine sound racing is a lot less spectacular, but my point is: the sound is pretty good as it is.

Really.. I know some people think they're really 1337 when they're discussing the distinctive tone of the 3rd valve of the second cylinder when accelerating in first gear but it's really just a very anal discussion.

I don't know what a C-West RASO Silvia sounds like in real life, but I enjoy the sound I get out of it in the game enough to get a sense of racing a special car. 👍

Yeah you enjoy the C-West and then you hear this and you think " ohhh if only "

You know, there's a little difference between "discussing the distinctive tone of the 3rd valve of the second cylinder when accelerating in first gear" and a V8 with huge displacement sounding like the bastard child of an I4 and a vacuum cleaner.

If you're referring to the iMiev, then I agree, but it is electric.

I haven't heard any other cars resembling a vacuum cleaner. Unless, ofcourse, you're exaggerating to get your point across.

Try the Mclaren MP4-12C:yuck:

It's obviously a little exaggerated, but, for example, listen at the Audi A4 touring car. And, well, maybe look up a real one on YouTube. That's not a slight difference in tone. If you only heard the two, you'd never even guess they're supposed to be the same car.

And that's what gets me. You know, there's a guy with an M3 (E92) in my neighborhood. That car is stock and has quite a distinct sound. You can tell it's an E92 M3 before you even see it.
Now, in GT5, it's not even close. I could hear t6hat thing all day an I'd never recognise it as an M3.

I mean, immagine entering the BMW's dealership in the game to buy an M3 and the car that's supposed to be an M3 looks nothing like the real thing. To the point where you can't even recognise it anymore. Would suck, wouldn't it?
