Case of unfortunate luck

Well, I was 70% through GTA:SA when the near impossible happened. There was a power flicker while I was saving, and you KNOW it's not good when things happen while saving. So, my file was corrupted and I have to start all over. Full stamina, health, driving, biking, cycling, lung capacity all gone......

I am SO pissed. So pissed that I'm thinking of not starting over.

That sucks. But if I was you I'd suck it up and just start again. I accidentally deleted my 100% Vice City game (lost over 200hrs gameplay) but I just started again. It was worth it.

OUCH!!! Sorry man. I sort of have the same problem. I havent even finished the game cause me PS2 his F-ed up. I called Sony, and I'm sending my PS2 to get fixed tomorrow.

OUCH!!! Dude I don't know how you can live after that. Another case of unfortunate luck. A couple days before the release of GTA:SA. My PS2 decided to pack up. I still haven't got it back yet :grumpy:

i let someone borrow my original copy of vice city and they scratched it all up.. when i finally got a new copy i discovered that my old saved game isnt' compatible with the new version... poo poo on that

Was it the Vice City / GTA III double pack you bought? I heard that it won't run saved games from the original version.

nope... but i imagine its the same version becuase i got shortly after the double pack came out

my Vice screwed up 80% done luckly only 30hours or so but my 90% GT3 also got wiped :(. now i have 100hour 100% Vice, and 40 hour 70% SA and 85% or so GT3.

I really feel sorry for you TurboLevin2NV. That would be one of those experiences to turn you off from a game. Don't stop playing it. Do it all again. Think about it: you know alot of the missions, you know how to do them all, you know what to prepare for, you will have a quicker run through those missions. As for your stats, well they can be worked up again.

I know how you feel. I've had my first 100% file of vice city wipped after saving at the Ice cream factory.(I sure hope there isn't a glitch like this in SA). You have my empathy. It also might be the same type of feeling when you run over your patient on level 12 of paramedic, and you just don't want to do it all over again. I think you should keep playing, as Jimmy said it should be easier now because you'd know what to do, but I can see your disappointment.

Definately. I hated that Ice Cream Factory glitch. Never saved there, nor did I have the desire to, so I never got it. I've never had a file corrupted, though I've accidentally saved over some, and I've deleted a few (purposefully, but then I had second thoughts after I done it).

But having it corrupted from a Power Failure would be plain irritating. Just keep playing dude.

Man that gotta suck, but swallow your pride and start it again, it'll be worth it in the end.

This shows that its always wize to save a copy on another memory card, I do it for all huge games, like all the GTA's and GT's.....

Yes, but some people don't have another memory card, or don't want to spend the money to buy a "back-up" memory card. Another save file, maybe, but not another memory card.

Another example of why you should rotate your saves among save slots and back up on another card if you have one--I have 3 memory cards and have my VC godfather save on 2 cards-- 5 slots spread out over 2 cards.

I rotate my SA saves among the first 3 slots on my newest card.

What do you mean by that, just save it 3 times or something? Or save it once on 1st slot, next time you save on 2nd, next time on 3rd etc. so if you lose one you're only a few missions back?

Save it on 2 different memory cards. I've never had much problem, really, except what I stated above. I don't mind though, too much work to get another memory card or "rotate" the saves.

I'm fine how I do it. Well, I don't do anything. Eh.

If this happens, would you only lose the save from one slot? If so, you could always save onto more than one slot every time... After all, saving only takes about 5 seconds.

I can't be bothered saving on 2 different memory cards every time, though. Just not my thing. I'm fine how I am.

Yeah, I think it should only corrupt the file that is being accessed. So if you save it on two slots it should be fine.

I tend to save on one slot for a while then move onto the next one when I finish an important or good mission...

This time round I moved slots everytime I moved Cities... so that I can go back and enjoy each city again if I want too... not that I'll ever have time to do anything like that!!

I've kept to one slot, I'm happy with how the game is progressing and I think I'll still be able to enjoy all the areas at 100% completion.

sigh*

been working hard on my game.....got my stamina bar back to full, fireproof and just got past all the sweet and big smoke missions. Although I don't have as much as before anymore....so it's hard to progress.

Haha, that just reminded me of what happened to me and Jimmy's GTAIII gamesaves. We had everything in the game perfect so we saved it on both our memory cards in first slot -- it was the only game we had. During the week I started a new game for fun and accidently saved over this "perfect game". So I rang Jimmy up and told him to be VERY careful not to wipe the game and I'd copy it off him the next weekend. 45 minutes later he rings up and says "You're going to kill me..." He did exactly the same thing I had

If you've got a mate with the game you could always copy there saved game to your memory card.
But atleast your PS2 didnt crap out a week after the game came out like mine, still have'nt got that back yet.
