Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but are there any caterhams in the game? I saw a screenshot of one in a photomode thread and now I need to know as I love those cars! I know it was in gt4

Yes, there is a 2002 Caterham Seven Fireblade.
It's a standard car, so keep an eye out in the Used car dealership.

I found mine last night.

I know some people complain about the used car system, but I personally like finding those "gems." It adds significance to having the car in your garage.

I fully modded mine, 240hp and like 360kg. Still slow-feeling though. Carves corners, but won't win any races except Beginner.

I picked up a Seven Fireblade from the used car dealer.

It feels a tad more sluggish than the gt4 counterpart, which was very nimble.

I think I remember being able to race it in A-spec mode, which was not possible in gt4, I might be remembering wrong here though.
In any case, you can take it to online mode, was fun passing ferraris in turns with the superb handling.

The gear ratios from stock are odd - 1st gear is very tall but it only makes power at high RPM

Used mine to beat the british lightweigh though which was cool, but i look forward to putting a close ratio box in there one day

Mine destroyed the British Lightweights its a little track demon even if its not fully fettled, @ kiladonut its in the used car dealerships bloody rare though

same with me, i find myself quickly looking over the used cars after every race, as there is always "new" cars added. its fun as you never know what ur gonna get. i was so happy when there was a Zonda available (pity it had a 290,000 Cr restore engine and rigidy!!!!) im finding myself buying all these cars i think are cool, but will probably be no use to me!

all in all, i found myself the Caterham and bought it.

Yeah thats it, it takes a helluva while to take off from a stop. I don't think thats true of caterhams in real life :indiff:

real caterhams use a mixture of tuned ford zetec engines - 1600CC upwards

this is using a 900 cc honda fireblade motorbike engine, which should explain why its slow low down 👍

Mine destroys the british lightweight, even when it only had 200hp and sports hard tyres. Finding it hard to make it faster on the london track now... too tight of a track to go much faster I guess, but custom gearing helps! No more being stuck below 8000rpm.

Fun car around the top gear track with sports tyres or london, just ideal with a little less hp for london.

The British lightweights was not hard for me with this car. Stock, no tuning, just an oil change.

Make sure you drive with all the "assists" off. They take seconds off your lap time. Especially the ASM. This is the quickest and cheapest tuning you can do to any car. ASM can really ruin your whole GT5 experience.

And about the gears, they are set up like a motorcycle gearbox. If you want to fix the gearing, get a fully customizable box.

Well the only thing is its using a honda cbr engine so its just like a real bike in gearing.

It very competivie as long as your not on tracks where you exceed 140mph constantly.

I do that with every car, just for the most realistic driving experience.

The problem is that the Lotus Elises starting in front at the London Track (I had no problems winning the other race) are already too far away to catch up with when the Caterham finally has some speed.

Do real caterhams have TC and ABS? I don't think so
Cars that don't have them in the real world shouldnt have them in game.
Remember to sort out the brake balance too.

I set my top speed to about 140mph. very nippy. B-Spec drivers love it. :dopey:

Mine too, by like 20+ seconds over 2nd place. Some new tires was most of what it needed. Then a fancy diff to help put the power down, and some mild engine tuning. Oh, and the used one I bought needed an overhaul *really* badly. The oil light was on.

It should be said that I'm running stability and some traction control. My lap times are nothing if I can't get the car around the track, and I freely confess to not being superman. I need ASM more I need power upgrades, but that's just me.

As soon as I get really good at keeping the back end down (I'll probably play with tire combos), I'm planning on using it to terrorize lightweight and low-hp battles online.

Well that sucks...

I have a Brunton Super Stalker in RL and I was really looking forward to driving this thing to get the same feel.

They should have just modeled the the stalker, it seems like more of a driver's car anyhow. :dopey:

I still can't believe the R500 isn't in the game. I have some idea how a caterham should feel like in the corners and have tried to setup many cars to match that but I'm not good at making setups (I always end up with miles and miles of hideous understeer).
