Cheaters already appearing on the leaderboards!

This might not bother everyone as we all enjoy playing racing games for many different reasons. However for myself and my friends what im about to say is very irritating indeed.

We all recently purchased a PS3 especially for GT5 prologue and have left our 360 racing games behind i.e Forza 2, PGR 4. Unfortunately some of the cheating from the 360 has followed onto GT5P. You see me and my friends all enjoy competiting for leaderboards but unfortunately I have already seen top 10 leaderboards consist of racers bashing into barriers obviously gaining them an advantage. The problem is we refuse to cheat in order to gain a top position because we feel bashing into a barrier isn't really showing any skill. However because there are no friends leaderboards we feel as though some of these tracks have been rendered useless as you could never gain a decent time by playing fairly and neither can we compete against each other i.e friends leaderboards. I know there is a penalty system but some how these people are bashing into the barriers but aren't recieving any penalty.

I know some people may think im being OTT but like I say we all enjoy racing games in different ways. Don't get me wrong we do play for fun and enjoyment and are looking forward to private races but ultimately we do play competively. All of us including myself have belonged to racing teams in the past which is something we are thinking of starting on the PS3.

I find it sad these days that some people will do anything to get those top 10 positions and if it was down to me I would add much harsher penalties to those who cheat.

I've not played GT5:P yet, so I haven't witnessed what your talking about. But it does indeed sound worrying. I love the challenge of the leader board.
Maybe some kind of 'report' function could be utilised? Where once a fraud has been uncovered on the leader board everyone can report this as so. Although who we would be reporting to I don't know. Perhaps a thresh-hold of complains could be reached, say, a hundred?

A 'black-list' is a good idea in my opinion. Should a user be found to be playing the game unfairly and gaining an advantage from doing so, he/she should have an online ban of some kind.

I'm maybe being naive in my wishes for the online game, but it would be a shame to see it ruined.

Online ranking = exploits/cheating. It has been that way ever since there is online ranking on the very first online game.

The online ranking is useless and proves nothing. You should play to have fun, not so you can get a top virtual time in a virtual world.

The best solution since the penalty system is flawed is to have a thumbs up & thumbs down for the replay. If it gets high scores it stays if obvious low scores then it gets taken down. And then the only way that would work (either way) is if it is based on a LARGE # of member input....though if they just implemented harsher penalties that would fix it altogether and would probably be a quicker more complete solution.

Its like that with almost every racing game. Most developers dont care. PD must be that way as well because everyone knew this was coming and its very simple to exclude times that have contact with walls. But they chose not to.

Can you point out some of these that are cheating?

I am yet to see this cheating on the ranking boards so far (though I only really drive in TT on Eiger), the only thing I have seen so far in terms of dishonesty I guess was a player using a Daihatsu OFC-1 in drift event and just driving with the handbrake on swinging the car back and forth at fairly low speed just racking up the points.

Compete in the races here at GTPlanet. The leader boards prove nothing because of the cheating, at least here you will get a 100% fare race.

Sorry to anyone that's being affected by this, but I find that absolutely hilarious.

there's a lot of cheaters on line. i loaded this replay of a guy leading the times in suzuka, and after following his ghost car, it turns out that he cut thru pretty much all the corners in the game. it was sooo lame.

How does he do that without penalties?

did he cut more than 2 tyres?

haha that would be funny to watch. I did that in gt2 with a pink toyota echo around rome circuit.

The cheating i've noticed is on HSR where people love to use the wall to get around turn 1,2 and the final turn.

They should probably add penalties for that.. where a clean lap is required for the time to be counted. No more than two tires off track, and zero impacts with any barriers.

I do like the idea of a customizable Friends-based leaderboard, though.

Does it still record offline laptimes, too, so you can see your own times?

Thats why I want to see these laps, it would be tricky to get past the penalties in Time trials as they are strict about barrier hits and cutting.

Yep the top 10 times per track and car.

No more than one tire off the inside of the curbs i'd say. If you go narrower, it's just unrealistic, if you're on the grass... yeah, same.

Post names, cars, and circuit. I have to see anyone gain a top time by cheating. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Since anyone can watch any replay, I really don't find it a problem. If you get close to the top, you just watch the ones above you and exclude the ones that cheat and bump yourself up (in your head) :) That's not cheating. I got the 8th best lap time in the F40 at Fuji today, and I was proud! Probably lasted only 5 minutes though.

Speaking of cheating, I was at the 2007 Hong Kong Game Show where Polyphony had this huge GT5P display and a contest using Suzuka... even Yamauchi san was there to present prizes to the winners... but much to my surprise (and shock), all the 'competitors' simply plowed through the Casio Triangle... the thing is, the version they used for the competion was the demo, which meant that it didn't have the black flag penalty for cutting those turns... not sure if Kaz saw what they were doing, but it was really a damn shame...

Hey so far i've done pretty well in the leaderboards finishing in the top 20's most of the time so do I cheat? Nope i'm one of the very few who actually race clean (it seems) well I bet a lot n this forum race clean but hey you get my point not everyone on the top of the boards cheat. By the way if you want to look it up PSN: Rallye08.

Thanks, P.S. I haven't checked in a while so i might of been knocked down.

Just an off topic question why am I a new member when I've been here for about 2 years :(

Thanks,

No one checks replays from people in the 20's. I think they are referring to people in top 5's and above.

Yea but if you look at the replays of the top ten times, more than likely they have cheated if possible. It's really sad to watch the ones that cheated, and yet through the rest of the course, they are actually very good drivers.

i focus quite a bit of my time to the time trails and it does annoy me if my time is being beat by someone cheating. i think the time PD spend designing the tracks they should eliminate possible short cuts or opportunites to cheat and the time penalties could be improved. The Real Driving Simulator!!!!!!

Only the top 10 though? Yes??? Or is there a way to see other replays.

My worry is that say the best lap time for a given track was 1:20, but then someone found a glitch where you could knock off 5 seconds per lap, then it would be easy to spot the 'cheaters'...

But since the top 10 will fill with the cheaters laps, there would be no way to watch a replay of a 'proper' lap.

Is there a way to see a reply from people below the top 10?

Jon

Like I said in my original post everyone enjoys playing racing games in their own different ways.

I was delighted to hear that each car has its own leaderboard on each course rather than just a leaderboard for a particular track. Those who enjoy going for laptimes are going to get plenty of life out of Prologue due to the numerous leaderboards. What our plan was since purchasing GT5P on Friday is to aqquire every single car and then hit the Time trials.

Going for laptimes is something I have done ever since playing racing games on my Sega mega drive. Before online play I found going for laptimes a way of extending the life of racing games and I even used to enter competitions in magazines who used to request video footage of your times.

So what im basically trying to say is for some people, competiting for the leaderboards is our way of playing for fun and is how we enjoy playing racing games. Sadly those who are bouncing off the barriers i.e Daytona, High speed ring are ruining it for everyone else.

Arcade ranking/ Daytona / Skyline R34 / professional - guy on a first place...
