I would also stick to the lower power cars if you want to improve your sr. I am s in sr and b in Dr but still in group 1 graces it is like bumper cars as they are so damm quick and people just cannot react in time. But then like yesterday at interlagos in the TT n200 class there was hardly any issues and hardly anyone after complaining about other people's driving.

You are wrong mate. You could be a very clean and fair player and get abused every single race from dirty gamers. It may takes 2 to drive fairly in a corner but it only needs one for a dirty move.

No I’m definitely right, at least based on my own experience.

Sure there are plenty of dirty drivers, and there are plenty more good drivers who make the odd mistake. But if you check your mirrors/radar most problems can be avoided, and the occasional time you do get bumped just dust yourself off and carry on.

I firmly believe if you are having problems, it’s half your own making.

Of all the threads this has got to be the most lolworthy. OP did a total of 5 online races and got knocked off track/spun/punted in all five. At DR E SR B the racing can be pretty rubbish but hey I'm pretty **** myself but even I have managed DR B SR S. In fact recently I tried a new account from scratch and I've hit DR C SR S in 3 days.

Also gotta hand it to the OP. Not only does he join this forum to complain about the game he actually thinks we're somehow responsible for Gran-Turismo, and he calls himself a veteran of the series. Has to be one of the most ignorant veterans there is.

Also saying stuff like not many people could have beaten his time etc makes me think he's never interacted with any of the guys here. I'm not even half as fast as some of the guys on here, and I wouldn't dream of even comparing myself with the folks here.

On a side note it's rather insulting to the people here because I've found a lot them are really open and are always willing to help.

Sorry for the long post but OP really got under my skin.

The very first online race I did was around Brands hatch, third corner in someone hit me from behind and sent me spinning, ok I thought, might have been a mistake, so I entered another race and got knocked off at the first corner, didn't do an online race for weeks after that. Doing Interlagos tonight I got kicked off the track and ended up with a 9 second penalty, did another race and someone else hit me from behind from which I lost 4 places. Just tried again and the same thing happened, yet again. All I can say is goodbye Gran Turismo, I am not buying another game if this is what you allow, you know who the cheats are but all you want is their cash so you let them get away with it, anyway, the tracks are crap in this game.

Situational awareness or rather your lack of it may be a factor don't just sit there crying wolf at your first bite of the apple its a bit disingenuous...

If you’re getting abused in every single race, then the only common denominator is you. Yes, there are careless racers out there. But if it happens in every race then you’re doing something wrong.

Thanks for saying all these frustrations for me

Normally I am not so sad that I need to join these sites, but there are so many arseholes around I had to say something. I am not some noob who thinks this game is a walk in the park, of all the GT games there are only two tracks in the series I did not get gold for, Monaco and an earlier version of Nurburgring, I doubt many of you can beat that.

Why do you need to be sad to be passionate about something. Better off without you here and in GT sport

As I said, so many cheats. We have all seen some of the top ten times for sections and tracks, a lot of the times are impossible, unless you cheat. That seems the norm today for a lot of you, then again, I suppose you have to win at something to boost your ego.

As if you don't know.

I've managed to post top 10 times here in North America region on multiple occasions, I've never cheated in GTS. Best way to improve is drive a lot. If you're really into racing games, maybe invest in a wheel. I made sure to get gold achievements in all of the circuit experiences before I ventured into the online waters.

Seems to me you're very unlucky taking it from behind. Either that or your behind has an open invitation to get hit.

I know right? Anyone who posts a hotlap faster than what I can achieve is absolutely cheating in my book also, it's enough to make you want to pack it in.

👍

There's always the letters that PD provide in livery editor.

Hey OP, you ever stop and think maybe it’s not everyone else but you who lacks skill and getting in the way? Not everyone’s out to get you but if you’re braking too early or not paying attention to your proximity, yeah stuff will happen. Sport mode isn’t AI racing anymore where they just hand you wins and yield to you.

Keep racing, there’s a lot to pay attention to but you’ll get there and it can become a very fun and rewarding experience.

I think some drivers can't bare to lose a position, and will defend the place recklessly where they get hit. Sometimes it's better to let the car go past you, live to fight another lap, and pass them back later. The more you defend and fight, the slower you will be = the slower you are = the more cars will catch up and join the fight. This is even more true if you're 10th or something, it's not a position to be so precious over.

Yeah, and you got under mine

Finished the thunderdome nations race. Only the winner never got a penalty. Should have had a v8 interceptor for the car instead

If you got a 10 second penalty it is likely that you made a mistake. Racing online is a lot harder than it looks and at the beginning you make a lot of errors you don't even know are errors. If you have the patience then it gets a lot better fast. Given what you describe I would suggest may be braking a lot too early and hard with other cars closing behind you, giving them no chance to avoid hitting you.

Go watch a replay from the top10 board in Sport mode.
Are you getting anywhere near their time?
Are you braking in the same places?

When you talk about problems, what problems would that actually be?
Is was SR S during the beta and never dropped from S in the full game also.Still (imo) there are many people in that rating that do not deserve to be there, because they are not clean.
That for sure is not my problem, its a system problem.

I was pointing out the same thing I've been writing from beta till now:the system does not work as it should. That leaves an open window for dirty players to both play dirty and keep their SR S rating.
And it does not work because there is not way you can report those drivers straight to PD,so that those people can be "checked".
In other words PD,tried to copy-paste the iRacing system but since they left some important parts of it out, that system is not working.

It is true that in real life motor sport if you are deemed a safety risk on the track due to lack of experience or proficiency you will be removed from the grid. That is the kind of 'problem' being spoken of.

As others have said: it's not like racing AI who will just drive monotonously round the track, you are racing against real opponents with minds. OK, some will bump you but they are few and far between especially as you climb the rankings. You are currently in the 'default' group so will be placed with anyone and everyone, regardless of their skill or sportsmanship. Keep your cool (don't retaliate) and raise your SR, then you will be matched with your actual level.

When you talk about problems, what problems would that actually be?.

Problems might be things like.

Inconsistent braking points. It’s impossible for someone the follow you closely if you aren’t consistently braking at the same place. They will rear end you.

Turning in on someone doing a late braking inside overtake. This is a fair move but turning in will result in you being smashed hard. You should use your mirror and radar to access their closing speed. It should be easy to avoid contact and keep your positon by doing an undercut.

Holding the outide line even when you see the gap closing. Not always a fair move (depends how far alongside you are) but it happens a lot that you get pushed wide at corner exit. You should see this coming, concede the position and tuck into the slipstream.

Bad track re-entry. I’ve seen so many youtube videos of people getting smashed off, having a moan and then just rejoining the track with no care at all. This is a good way of getting punted again or annoying another who will take revenge.

Being overly defensive. People often defend too hard and cause no end of problems behind them. This will just enevitably cause people to nudge you off from retaliation.

Failing to understand people make mistakes. Probably half your collisions are accidental and nothing malicious. There are probably just as many times where you made a mistake and ran into someone else. But people tend to forget their own mistakes.

Not using mirrors or radar enough. It’s too hard to list all the possible situations, but you should be looking at these as much as the track. You need to access your/their speed relative to the track and understand where there is (and isnt) going to be space in the next few seconds.

@PirateAlan8

Being overly defensive is very annoying. I had a guy who would not let me pass on Friday night (Interlagos TTS) and all that it caused was those behind to catch up to me. So in the end there was 4 or 5 all stuck behind this guy, eventually everyone passed but in the half a lap or so that he was holding me up I lose my advantage on others behind.
