Bit of a fool for advertising what he was doing on his site...

If he was just chipping the consoles then I would've been more inclined to side with him, but selling a hard drive with 80 pirated games on it is just silly.

They siezed 38 drives...pity, would have made a nice RAID array :(

still, would you go steal a cd or game from a store? pirating is the same thing but with crappier quality media. and speeding is an unfair comparison, because every car on the road will speed at one point. The entertainment industry has to take care of theor employees somehow, and piracy takes money awy from musical artists, game developers, actors and directors. and their revenue must not be too high with all the pursuing of pirates. You know they are losing massive amounts of money if they are scared enough to have a massive worldwide campaign against piracy.

No, I wouldn't steal a CD from a shop. If you're getting crappy quality media you're doing something wrong :p

Not every car on the road needs to speed, there are plenty of people who do not speed. My point was that the consequences of speeding were much more dangerous.

No, they aren't losing massive amounts of money, they're just incredibly greedy. They make literally tens of billions of pounds a year.

But still, they are still losing money. an indutry shouldn't have to worry about losing money because people will digitally steal everything.

Every industry has to worry about theft

But, not as much as the entertainment industry. there is many ways to jack digital media... and I dont think it should be that way

Car theft is a more serious problem than music/movies/games theft, imo.

but still, a crime is a crime, and if you commit a crime, you should be punished.

Now you're just being naive...there aren't enough police/lawyers/judges/jury members to prosecute everyone for every crime. I read a statistic from about 2 years ago which said that if the RIAA were to take everyone who downloaded songs from Kazaa to court and prosecute them, it would take approximately 300 years for all the cases to go through.

In the grand scheme of things in the world, piracy is a very small problem, the only reason there is such a war going on is that the entertainment industry are very greedy.

People are stealing from them. that is enough to constitute getting pissed off. They aren't just greedy, piracy chips away their profits more and more. ever wonder why cds/dvds/games are so expensive now? they have to keep up on their profits some how. and you guys that love to pirate things are screwing it for the rest of us who want to support the industry, not kill it.

It was my perception that prices for games/movies/music was coming down...

Also, I've not said once that I "love to pirate" stuff.

Im not talking about you. Im talking about the people constantly pirate. the price is not going down at all. cause, the new xbox360 games are going to go up about 10 - 15 bucks in price. and its not just because of new technology.

I gotta agree with you on the "stealing is stealing" argument. It's amazing how people won't admit it.

But, I gotta disagree with you about your assumption that piracy is driving the price up. If you trace the price of console videogames back through the 80's, when home, consumer level piracy was very low, add in inflation, standard wage increases and all that crap, it's always been expensive as it is now.

Even with piracy, the game industry is more profitable now than ever, with some titles hitting legendary $$ that rival Hollywood productions (Halo 2), so if the industry is gonna try and argue that piracy is contributing to a 10-15 buck price increase for a piece of plastic (DVD) that costs them less now to make than ever before, then they're as lame as pirates who insist that they're "just sharing"

well, I guess your right about the prices. I retract my statement about the prices, ( I wasnt even around till 89, I wouldn't know) But i have a feeling, that if piracy goes at this rate, they MAY raise prices.
