Cockpit driving position, do you like it?

I like the shaking. :D

Me to! The shaking is different for each car also wich is awsome. PD switched up the driving view, some views are perfect while some are to close. I only drive in cockpit view with no hud, unless its a standard car. All cockpit drivers get more out the game imo. There are different things a driver must over come in cockpit view which makes the game challenging.

I always use it when available. Always. Fun and challenging to learn driving lines and where the rumble strips are with that point of view.

As for shakiness, that only happens to me when I'm in a race car on Indy going 200 or something. Otherwise what shaking are you guys talking about?

i love the cockpit view i use it on all premium cars when i can unless im in a big bunch of people and ill wait till we get space out a little bit. and i wish all the race cars were premium i love seeing all the crazy buttons and things in it

Ferraris I find are the best in cockpit view, nice large rev counter for those no HUD laps around the Green Hell !! Lamborghini's, Fiat 500 and the VW Golf are the only others i will use in cockpit view. Other than that, I don't bother, even though they are very well designed.

The best cockpit is the McLaren f1, the central seat makes control in turns easier, and there is a great view. The white gauges are sweet in day and the green gauge lights are awesome at night...

I like cockpits in which I can see the mirrors and rev counter in extra zoom mode. Otherwise it feels like you're sit somewhere between the rear and front seats.

Always cockpit view if it's available. It's not perfect but it's still the nicest view, perfectly driveable and best for immersion.

Bumper-cam gives you too much visibility and is in a weird position as well as making every single car look the same(but it's not too bad if you're in a standard). Roof-cam looks almost like a common TV camera, but gives a birds-eye-view of the apices, and tends to feel like you're driving an R/C car or something. Chase cam is nice to look at your car for a moment, but odd driving from, too much view and just looks like you're playing a game like Burnout.

I can never seem to decide on a zoom level, though. The wider views often seem to show nothing but your roof and make it tough to read the gagues, but from the zooms you lose a bit of the sense of movement, as well as being able to(sometimes) use the mirrors. Plus sometimes it's so close you can't see the dials anyway.

Once you stop paying attention to them the pillars/wipers/etc won't affect your driving one bit.

That's why I like McLaren, but there are 2 rear view mirrors that are slightly visible... You sit in the middle and its position is in such a place that it seems as though it is a single seat race car!

I like the rooftop view. I can still get a sense of where the car physically is ( I have a hard time doing that in bumper cam).
Same here. I'd use cockpit view if it wasn't too low and too close to the dash. The horizon needs to be up close to the rear view mirror. But roof view gives me a more lifelike view of the road, great feel for the car's center of gravity and how it's handling - except those few dumb cars in which it's actually some stupid hood view.

I did play around with it, and those who can do it well get applause from me. Those who can't stand the shaking though are just strange. It's very minor, not nearly what you experience on the average road. You should watch some Shift replays if you want to see annoying cam shake. ;)

It is a single seat racecar!

No, the McLaren f1 is a 3 seat road car... It also won the 24h of le mans in 1995 and the race car is inferior to the f1LM version which has a more powerful engine.

It's been bothering me quite a lot recently. I've found that in the majority of the cars, the driving position appears to be too close to the steering wheel with the only available options being for even closer. They've spent months and months designing those interiors to perfection, shouldn't we be able to freely adjust the seat in order to find a driving position to our liking?

It's also puzzling how they managed to design/animate the hands of the driver in cars with paddles. He's holding the wheel like it's dirty and the game is cosntantly trying to predict what gear you'll change to resulting in taking tight turns with just one hand as if on a sunday cruise.

I know I'm going to be mocked for complaining about details but I find those issues to be very immersion-breaking. Anybody else that wishes some of this stuff got tweaked?

I agree with everything you're saying here. I use the hood or roof view because I feel the cockpit view is highly distracting and the outline of the car obstructs my view often as well.

No not really, I don't think it's realistic. And sometimes it's so close it seems like the wheel is attached to your chin.
And about the camera, I used to love it but now I got tired of it and I genuinely hate it! It shakes too much, it's too stiff...I don't even know how to define it. I only use "bumper" cam now.

Yep love it! After years of playing all the GT series in bumper cam I've always said the cars generally feel and sound the same in bumper cam. I don't even touch the standard cars just because of no cockpit view. I just wish you could control how many degrees of view your head turns when checking left and right mirrors instead of a full 45 degree head turn which pretty much takes yours eyes off the road- not good! As for the shake it doesn't bother me at all I never focus on the screen just through the windshield and the road itself

I love first person cockpit view . It's virtually all I use with premiums . The paddle shift animations could be greatly improved though.

What I dont like with the cockpit view sometimes is that my driver is a midget.. It really affect my planing. So when I must perform 100 % I choose the standard view. The view where you see nothing else but thee track and the data. I wish i could put my seat higher up in the car ;(

Exactly what i was going to say, im constantly lifting out of my chair to see higher, even though it doesn't do anything. Too bad there is no playstation eye in A-spec races.

Some cars REALLY need to move the camera back. I feel like a 5 year old scooting close to reach the pedals trying to peer over the wheel.
The cars that I get the most joy out of driving all are the ones that feel like they are in a natural driving position.

Cockpit driving position, do you like it?

I rarely drive cars without it. Which is a shame as most of my favourite cars are standards. Bring on a generic cockpit for standards DP!

I only use cockpit view on premiums and bumper cam on standards.
I would love to have the possibility to adjust fov.

I'm still impressed with the cockpit view (and the in car camera's in remote races) but I almost never use it.
I don't really like the shaking and I find it too hard. :)
So I stick with the original bumper cam.

I like the cockpit view in certain cars. Right now I am earning driving suits with a 97 Civic (on the SSR5 night Civic Seasonal) and it works out fairly well. I turn off the HUD and just rely on the gauges, however, I would like one or two adjustments. It would be helpful if you could adjust the brightness of the gauges (as you can in a real car), this would help especially when the shadows from either the dash itself or one of the A-Pillars blocks the sunlight during a midday/dusk race.

Most importantly to me, getting the sector times and the lap time displayed while driving with the bare setting. As of now, you can have the lap time & sector time but the running order of the other cars has to be displayed at the same time (on the right) and you cannot turn it off.

I'll take a picture tonight to further clarify what I mean.

wow.. So many people complaining about "shaking cockpit". I haven't even thought about it. Funny how people experience things differently

It's pretty bad in a Nascar on Daytona, it's like your seat is bolted to an over-achieving paint mixer.

How is that you guys think that the cockpit view is too close to the wheel in most cases?
I feel the opposite: I find it's unrealistic to be able to see almost the whole cockpit. In real life one focuses mainly on what's outside the windscreen and what's around in the car essentially becomes black/invisible. Therefore I usually use the "zoom" or "extrazoom" setting, with the latter feeling generally more realistic but hindered by the limited horizontal field of view that standard TV screens provide (at a 16:9 ratio).

In the end however, since I drive mostly standard cars and that the shaking PD implemented doesn't seem realistic (it's awful especially on zoomed cockpit view settings), I use the "bumper" view 99.9% of the time even on Premium cars.

If I had a multiscreen set-up and standard cars had a cockpit view as well (even like in GTPSP) I'd probably use it instead most of the time.

I only use cockpit view; Roof/Roll Bar cam sometimes when it is raining and visibility is  bad.

Seldom look at the hands on the wheel; may not be as fast as possible; but I get the greatest enjoyment in cockpit view with my G 25 and Playseat Evolution :)

Some cars shake more than others; and I think PD may have toned it down a bit; doesn't affect my enjoyment at all.

Yea Daytona is bumpy I also notice how Suzuka had my cockpit dancing, it was pretty sweet. Driving on other track don't seem so bumpy though.

Cockpit view for me wherever possible EXCEPT on the RM'd Impreza - Badly placed vinyl sticker pologon on the inside of the windscreen does not match the height of the external vinyl - it's too low 👎 any track that goes uphill and you can't see.

Ultimately, there's no reason why they couldn't add the full options of: adjustable seating position (height and forward/back); FOV (just as important to make it feel like the environment is at the right distance depending on the size of your tv screen); camera 'wobble'; and interior positions/settings saved for each individual car within the settings file.
Everyone has their own preferences, so you can't please everyone. Add the options and everybody happy :)
