Nicest part of hell
Anyone else want an option to adjust the ''cockpit bop''?
I wish I could race the 24 hours of Le Mans using the fantastic cockpit view of my 908, but the cockpit shake gives me headaches after ten or so laps. Its so horrible, especially when taking corners the shake irritates me so much that I keep missing the apex. :yuck:
It really makes me seasick.

And before some people say ''dood, cockpit view is only for the pros noob'' - I looooved Richard Burns rally and the cockpit view was fantastic, the shake was much smoother and realistic.
GT5 makes me feel like I have vibrators sticking in my ears.

Accurate? My head is not strapped to the roll cage of the car, there is a flexible spine absorbing shock, there is no way my head would shake like that. I've driven go-karts with pretty much no suspension at all over VERY bumpy tracks and my head didn't shake like that

LOL, no, it's definitely not as smooth as human vision. I think it still operates as a camera, albeit one that's fixed roughly where your head is supposed to be. Having some level of camera dampening would help simulate the effect of your spine compressing, but I think the road surface and the suspension translating that surface to the car chassis is decently accurate. It's just accurate as a camera, not as your head.

Your head moves around but your eyes/brain generally compensate and adjust. When you're looking at a fixed image (TV screen) it doesn't work the same way.

Personally I don't mind it, but an option to turn it off seems like a good idea for people who get headaches or nauseous. I think Shift 2 has that option, there is "helmet cam" and "cockpit view". The former has all the head turning/blurring/etc, and I think the latter is just a fixed cockpit camera.

I've driven at an amateur level in a modified Astra GTE and while I admit it's not the fastest car ever to come from a British shed I can promise you that the head-shake is absolutely unbelievable.

The longer you drive the worse it gets because your neck becomes tired VERY quickly.

I've got a lot of respect for drivers who do long stints in sportscars and formula cars that pull such big lateral-Gs for hours at a time. Their brains must be mush :D

People who complain at this have never actually been in a race car before, or even looked at the footage from one.
Headshake:
By Kaz (can't give you the exact quote but it's something like this) "After I've been in Nurburgring 24h I just felt I had to put the shake in the game" - From GT-TV Nurburgring 24h

So do I.

I really got respect for ALL kinds of racers thanks to GT5. Especially for NASCAR. The Shaking is OK for me, I like it a lot. It gives me the feeling that im to fast xD. For endurane, it maybe could be annoying, but I like I though. By the way, at Le Mans is the straight part full of parts where your car bounces lol. Even if youre head would stay straight, you still would keep a shaking display.

Shake it baby !

Theres no way the shake is realistic considering how drastic it is. Just the fact that your head has mass that is not directly attached to the car would indicate that the shake should not be as extreme as it is for the car in game. Even at 120+mph on my bike with a teeny windscreen does my head shake that quickly. I don't think the shake should be removed, but it could definitely be dampened.

Some people think they're smarter than the people who have actually raced.
Get in a race car, drive it.
Race cars have bucket seats which provide no cushioning and they have hard suspension.
You wouldn't last 1 hour in a race car, your neck would fall off.

My neck would what? I'm not trying that then.

i like the idea of the head shake, but i dont like how violent it is. in that video its more like a wiggel. In GT the camera shakes so violently i cant focus on anything. Witch is a shame because i really like the intterior view but hardly use it because of the shaking. :(

I have lots of respect for race car drivers but - I don't think so, I'm doing 255lbs shrug exercises and doing 90 degree hairpins in a racing kart for two hours does not stress my neck at all. :sly: Race car drivers are not super humans.
One thing to ease he stress on the neck is pulling up your shoulders when driving through a tight hairpin, it stabilizes the head.

I dont really like the shake. The car should be shaking. And the head should be shaking too ( if its welded to the chassis)

Why "especially for NASCAR"? What exactly do you think is going on there that every other major motorsport on the planet doesn't have at least as much, if not more? Drivers of other series actually endure a lot more. Granted, F1 races and races from many other motorsports aren't as long as NASCAR races, but those drivers actually do a lot more in two minutes than what a NASCAR driver does in an hour.

The human head is quite good at providing a clear and stable image. Race cars might be stiff, although no more stiff or violent than a kart, but even in the most extreme circumstances your vision will not be 'buzzy' like it is in gt5 unless you are resting your chin on the steering wheel.

You'll get some of the low frequency crashes and bangs, but not the low frequency stuff, and you certainly couldn't 'see' anything less severe than a saw tooth kerb even though you would of course feel it.

I completely agree with the OP, I want to use cockpit view but ON SOME CARS it is just too shaky. Not only is our head not in a fixed position but also out eyes are not in a fixed position. Don't get me wrong, its OK in some cars, but others are horrible.

I hate it and its one of my biggest gripes with the game, i stopped using cockpit in many cars because of it. I get what they tried to do but my head isnt a strapped camera on the car! They should make the car bounce, not the camera.

for anyone, continuously click your teeth together while looking at anything the time is on with a bright LED light or something. Your eyes will jiggle and the time will somewhat gyrate.

Your eyes won't adjust so easily when huge vibrations from minor bumps are running through the stiff suspension of a race car. So imagine going superfast or braking super hard on something made to withstand unbelievably sharp turns. 0-200-0 mph I DARE YOUUUUUUU!

Wouldn't a stiff suspension have anything to do with it?

yeah, it is very poorly modeled in the game!

I have been fortunate enough to ride as a passenger in a few race cars at speeds up to ~130mph. Even with a stiff chassis my eyes had no problems adjusting for the "shake" and the effect was nothing like what I see in the GT5 game at the same speeds (based on my extreme limited exposure).

PD would do well to have a slider to set intensity of "shake" If some folks like a lot of "shake" then they can crank it up to the max!
:)

That's a bummer. But for some reason 130mph doesn't seem all that fast and not fast enough to make the car vibrate as much as say, 170. Even then it's definitely different for each track. Deep Forrest Racewayis horrible in terms of road surface. The bumps are excessive because the road is so irregular. I love that track though. I'm 51% sure that's the issue.

With the HANS device that is mandatory in FIA events, I would have thought it would have made the "vibrations" more apparent.
