I don't know if anyone really notices it, but if you do race from the interior view when its possible, whats the only major flaw that is there, regardless of the car you're in? I've finally found the answer. In every single (premium) car, the interior looks as if you can put your hand through the windshield.

There's no glass. I understand if you look at it from the outside, its there. I understand when it's raining, it's there. But in broad daylight, don't you think it should be scratched? Dirty? Reflections all over the screen? Bugs? :p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeCsaXlHaIc for an example. It's just one of the things PD needs to work on, getting the dirty parts of racing more dirty right?

This, rearview mirrors, missing rev lights, wipers not exactly wiping the droplets.

Lot's I could go on.

yeah, that is a problem of many games and GT5 is a perfect example.

In following to Kaz´s explanation, that he tried to show the racing world in a clean and perfect condition, we wouldn´t expect anyway, that he takes the time to indicate contamination and reflections on the windshield.

Quite a lot of people like racing this view. I personally do not but think you're right. It work work especially well in the rally courses. If they did ever address this in an update then it should be as a selectable option so our desire for 'realism' doesn't impede others ability to enjoy the game.

It's especially obvious in the X1... I often forget there's supposed to be a windscreen around me.

The single biggest cockpit flaw I've found is in all variants of the Citroen GT: they decided it was a good idea to put a little HUD-like thingy on eye-level to display your speed - completely and utterly blocking anything interesting that may be going on on the road... I can't use that view, not even for 4 seconds.

The Murcielago LP640's interior looks like they modelled it in 5 minutes. It's grey, rough and looks plasticky while the real car has black and smooth stitched leather. The A/C vents are also not complete circles and are a little pixellated, the carbon looks weird and you can only see the top of the steering wheel when driving, not the whole thing. :grumpy:

Yep, noticed when playing Prologue too. Only real difference I noticed was the screen tint when driving the Ferrari Califonia, you can only tell cos the tops down & you can see outside. There are so many small touches missing from the game, but it's reasonable as the PS3 only has so much power.

👍

according to the interior on the megane sport, the small car display shows that the boot is open. i own one in RL, and technically if the boots open you cant start the engine. unless the key card is in the slot below the stereo(keyless entry see), which it aint. Very picky i know but i love the megane and it always annoys me when i see it.

I wouldn't call missing dirt and scratches on the windscreen a flaw, since both actually are hard to implement and would use a lot of memory.

DFA1984 mentioned a real flaw, I also noticed some other mistakes already, still don't use any other view and the reason why I use Standard cars only for split-screen or B-Spec.

Dirt, rain, cracks all render cockpit views useless. Go try dirt2 if you don't beleive me. Gaming isnt the same as reality. Pixels aren't capable of duplicating the real thing and it is virtually blinding. You can't pick up the shapes and light through the cracks and judge speed or g force like in reality. Imo it is not wanted. Cockpit view would be ruined like dirt2 if they add dust, flies, dirt, damage, etc. To the windsheild.

I think it's fine if they left the damaging stuff out, but the most important aspect I think would be the sunlight reflections. The other stuff is great, and adds to realism, but starting with sunlight I think would be great. But like others have said, it requires a lot of processing, so who knows if the PS3 GT's will handle it

The Viper and NSX don't have functioning redline indicators either.

Try the Schwimmwagen, its windscreen glass is slightly tinted and it being without a roof you can clearly see a contrast between looking through the windscreen and looking around it.
There may be other cars where the glass is slightly tinted but whereby it isn't as noticeable due to having a roof.
Ofcourse the majority don't have tinted glass at all and although I agree that driving the X1 feels a bit like driving with an open cockpit, I'm not that bothered by this issue on other cars as I can't really see how they would tackle this issue especially since they can't seem to improve the jagged shadows which is a far more annoying "problem".
Adding dirt might solve it and would make the windscreen wiper functionality more, well functional outside rain and snow (I agree however that those wipers don't do much even in these circumstances....), but adding sunlight reflections may prove too much on the current console hardware with all other graphical elements of GT5 already seemingly putting a huge strain on the PS3.

I think the problem is that the windscreen doesn't reflect anything at all, it should reflect both sunlight and the car's dashboard, it doesn't. I realise that PD are pushing the PS3 to it's limits, so it's probably not going to be possible until the PS4 is released. So hopefully PD will implement more advanced reflections in GT6/7 on the PS4. I still don't get why dirt doesn't build up on the windscreen while rallying though, it wouldn't be that hard to implement, just add a texture that gradually increases in opacity as the car drives further along the dirt.

Blimey...give it a chance. This is the first GT to have this view and, on top of that, all the other effects to try and be as immersive as any other racing game. GT Next should iron out all the issues...or even via updates to GT5.

The windshield doesnt get dirty but it certainly doesnt look like it's missing. The lighting usually looks different from inside and outside of the cockpit.

You can defeinitely tell on some cars that have tinted glass... I forget which (maybe swchimwaggen?) but when you can see around the glass you can tell the glass is tinted.

While it's true that you can't see the glass, it would be pretty annoying to have to deal with a hampered view (even in that manner) on top of the other handicaps that viewing on a TV screen vs RL has.

Ferrari F40 is another good example of a car that you can really tell it has a windshield.

Remember each driver is wearing a helmet with a visor too but we don't 'see' that either; obviously cockpit view has some compromises, but still for me; my favourite view 👍

Actually incorrect. Its true that the glass seems almost invisible, and it doesnt reflect anything, but the windshield is there. Change between cameras, and you´ll notice something. You can see that the outside looks a little bit darker when on the cockpit cam, due to some kind of window tint, or the glass itself blocking all the glare. So yes, there is a windshield, although its always 100% spotless. Incorrect or not, cockpit cam is the best:tup:

EDIT: 400th POST BABY!

Yeah and rain is just ok? Dont think rain is lesser on memory than a little dirt or a reflection (plus the different simulationprocess and even stupider AI)...so sorry dont buy that one.

Indeed, both is completely true.
You can even notice the tinted glass in closed cars and I think in some cars, the glass actually has reflections (I'm pretty sure I noticed that in the NASCAR vehicles and the Audi R10). You can also see the sun reflection in some cars when you look back, try the 458 Italia in Le Mans for example.

EDIT: @Mulan: Since there is already dynamic weather, you would have to calculate the dirt and reflections on top of that, not to mention that it's more a problem with the RAM than with the processing. The AI is good by the way, it's just too slow, they dodge other cars, they wait after spinning and they don't drive too agressive (most of the time). Not to mention that the AI shouldn't be a problem for the RAM anyway.

Gotta admit, it doesn't really bug me at all that the glass is clean, and I also exclusively use cockpit view when racing premium cars. I really love it!

Whenever tinted glass is mentioned, the C230R instantly springs to mind. As for the dust/scratches, I could take it or leave it.

Imagine racing neck and neck, you're almost at the finish, then a big bug splats on your WS, realistic, sure, aggrivating, yes!

And why does the Vettle X2010 not have a wiper???

It's not really a flaw, is it? I say a flaw in this case would be when you try to show something and it looks wrong (like shadows and they turn out jagged for instance), but not when they don't try to show something (like not trying to show dirt on the windscreen and it doesn't show).

"Cockpit view flaws found in ALL premium cars"

Who cares?!? Go play racing games where your only camera angle is 'top-down' for ten years. Then tell me about GT's flaws.

I'd say the premiums are more flawed than the standards. I've noticed something "wrong" or inconsistencies on probably 50% of the premium vehicles I have (10X and counting).

I've noticed a LOT of premiums have un-wanted noise on the engine sounds. The RX-7 snaps, crackles, and pops like they recorded it on vinyl :ouch: and it's not the only one.

Most of the speedos (that are in MPH anyways) are not synced with the actual speed. Some cars headlights don't work manually, some cars have burnt out bulbs (SLR Mclaren), some cars are missing rear interior view.

It's just amazing because of the amount of premiums compared to standards. I've got at least twice as many standards and have only seen maybe 4 or 5 that have bugs.

It makes it REALLY noticeable that they just threw this game out as fast as they could
