Cockpit view flaws found in ALL premium cars

I wouldn't call missing dirt and scratches on the windscreen a flaw, since both actually are hard to implement and would use a lot of memory.

DFA1984 mentioned a real flaw, I also noticed some other mistakes already, still don't use any other view and the reason why I use Standard cars only for split-screen or B-Spec.

A reasonable flaw is still a flaw. Having a good reason for it doesn't mean it's not a flaw.

Also, in the snow and rain you get things on the windshield, so I doubt having some dust and scratches on the windshield would be a huge drain on memory.

They should make that the windshield gets dirty when racing for a period of time. And it get's even dirtier when you try to wipe it off :)

That would make car wash even better!

Incorrect or not, cockpit cam is the best:tup:

Incorrect..! :sly:

Until you have a three monitor system, cockpit view is an unnecessarily restricted field of vision exercise in driving while blinkered. Head tracking is apparently poorly implemented, there's no 'Look to apex' like S2U...
Driving cockpit cam, I feel like a horse at the derby!

And PD make it no better with 'invisible car cam' which Lord know WHAT that is supposed to 'simulate'!

Best driving view EVER (IMO) is Shift's (and several other games') Hood Cam, which is a PROPER 'hood cam' where you can see the hood (imagine that!) from eye level as if your TV is the windshield. It's the MOST vision of the race track and other cars you can get on one screen without losing the immersion of actually being IN a car...

PD need this view BAD....

The only thing that bothers me when using the cockpit view is the how delayed the gear changes are. Other than that i think the cockpit view is difficult to use, and if it is raining and youre using the x2010, forget about it you can't see a thing.

Only when you're changing gear on the many ocassions the driver hands don't already move towards the gear lever or paddle shifts (when hitting the appropriate amount of revvs to shift up for example).
There's frankly no other way than them being delayed as the game can never predict when you're going to shift up or down unexpectedly obviously.
Mind behaviour analysis isn't yet implemented in this generation of consoles and to be honest I doubt it will be implemented anytime soon.

Like I already mentioned, since there's already dynamic weather, you would have to calculate the other stuff on top of that, plus it's not easy to make stuff like that looking good. People are already complaining about the slightly pixelated raindrops (low-res textures, most likely because of the memory limitations...), don't want to read comments like "Unrealistic looking dirt on my windscreen - fix it PD!". And I still don't see it as a flaw, it's just not in the game, like in most racing games actually.

Although I agree that it wouldn't hurt to have a effect like this, it shouldn't be made too annoying though. GTR Evolution on PC features stone chips etc. and it's well done there.

There's no glass. I understand if you look at it from the outside, its there. I understand when it's raining, it's there. But in broad daylight, don't you think it should be scratched? Dirty? Reflections all over the screen? Bugs? :p

At Driving Emotion Type-S (PS2) you could see the reflections of the dashboard in the windshield - and that game was released on March 30, 2000. 👍

(Reflections NOT showing)

Too bad that the controls were horrible - even in the fixed US and EU versions. :guilty:

don't want to read comments like "Unrealistic looking dirt on my windscreen - fix it PD!".

I'd rather read that than excuses for it not being in at ALL...

After all, would you rather NOT have 800 Standards? Would you rather NOT have smoke and shadows (or the dynamic lighting that causes the problems)? Would you rather NOT have rain?

I don't mind the non reflective glass I just wish the cockpit views didn't have that weird lighting problems in some cars. In some cockpit views the camera seems to overexpose the sky and makes everything look blown/washed out. You can adjust the brightness in the options but then if you use a different view then THAT view is washed out! ugh..

I wish there was a way to shut that off. It's a fancy effect, esp in the tunnels and coming into bright daylight but overall it's done more to annoy me in cockpit view because it's just broken in some cars. Why do developers treat a somewhat "realistic" view like we're looking through a camera lens (EA and their STUPID lens flares and PD with this constant over exposure) instead of treating it like it is actual human eyes. You know, the things that don't over expose the sky and have massive lens flares... :indiff:

You guys are so anally retentive when it comes to complaining.... amazing

Why is GT5's cockpit view great? Because it has great visibility (unlike DIRT, GRID etc.).
The only cars I've noticed to really look like they're missing a windshield are McLaren F1 and X2010.
But it's not a flaw.

Carl Edwards # 99 Ford Fusion is actually Matt Kenseths from the '09 season.

# Sticker saying "17" which was / is Matt Kenseths number
# Stickers below switches to iniate radio contact with #6 / #16 / #26 / #99
# #26 is no longer in use by Roush Racing, where the #99 and #17 are from. this number has not been with them since the 2009 season.

Racing in the dirt and it starts to rain and you can't see a thing till the 3rd wipe. :scared:  :dopey:

Doubt anyone will be able to top this one

A simple observation but nonetheless sticks out (for me) like dog's balls.

The in-car view, in particular motars with paddle shifting... the driver's thumbs NEVER wrap around the steering wheel. Looks like their thumbs are permanently in fixed to the index finger

 :yuck: :grumpy: :dopey: :)

Comparing GT5 and Forza 3, Forza looks like nothing is there at all, while you can easily acknowledge that something is there in GT5.

All of the premium Lamborghini's (except for the P400) have crappy interior views...why, IDK. Feels like I became fatter or Lamborghini thought of us Americans for a moment.

I think the problem is that the windscreen doesn't reflect anything at all, it should reflect both sunlight and the car's dashboard, it doesn't. I realise that PD are pushing the PS3 to it's limits, so it's probably not going to be possible until the PS4 is released. So hopefully PD will implement more advanced reflections in GT6/7 on the PS4. I still don't get why dirt doesn't build up on the windscreen while rallying though, it wouldn't be that hard to implement, just add a texture that gradually increases in opacity as the car drives further along the dirt.

I agree. I think that a lot of these features that many people are wanting for most games right now are simply not possible due to hardware limitations. We will have to be patient and hope that the next gen consoles will be able to deliver 👍

The Murcielago LP640's interior looks like they modelled it in 5 minutes. It's grey, rough and looks plasticky while the real car has black and smooth stitched leather. The A/C vents are also not complete circles and are a little pixellated, the carbon looks weird and you can only see the top of the steering wheel when driving, not the whole thing. :grumpy:

Yep same on the Chrome Line.

All driver views are too low.

I think it was a good choice, to have the windows in the cockpit perspective without reflections. In a real car, if you look at the street your brain will 'blend out' the glass and the reflections.

But this doesn't work in game, the reflection will obscure your view. You can not blend it out because theres no real deep to it. I always hated the reflections in Shift and especially in Dirt. I could only use the cockpit properly, when the windscreen was broken.

Well, yeah, but just because there are those annoying people who nit pick the crap out of everything doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy the feature. I should have been more clear, but I meant they could at least enable the effect on tracks where dynamic weather isn't a factor, which is most of them.

Whether it has glass or not, the complains would still come. Lets say there really is glass, people would complain that it gets dirty to fast and you can't see. Take the glass out and threads like this pops up. I have my disappointments with GT5 but isn't one, this is nick picking. PD can't catch a break for nothing.

I don't even use or like the cockpit view so I can care less if there is glass or not. PD fix the windshield issue, I thinks not. They need to fix far more major issues that worrying about a windshield.

Guys it's not possible with the PS3's GPU to do all that's needed to make it ultra realistic, I'm quite happy with the majority of the cars that have a cockpit view already.

Kaz said that the game does exceed the player's expectation, but it seems the game doesn't exceed his expectation that's why he complains...

blame Kaz....

Shift 2 does it. On a PS3. Sorry...

hm, here's what I recorded the other day just for reference. rain vs no rain in 2 different premium vehicles on 2 different tracks

Really? Has anyone said anything about the speedometer not reading like it should. When you spin the tires, the speedometer will say how fast you're going based on how fast the wheels are spinning. That's why when it's wet in my yard I can get up to 50 mph without going anywhere. :)

GT5 on the other hand just displays the actual speed of the car. I'm sure there are some cars that have the sophistication for all that but I know for a fact that cars like the Corvette Stingray do not. lol

I really don't see how it could be very hard to implement either... Just take the RPMs and run them through the numbers for all the gear ratios and such. This will also work with customized transmissions as they just swap in those number for the standard ones. It couldn't be any more taxing on a CPU than whatever system they use for calculating a cars actual speed in the game.

Hhehe i remember doing 200 km/h in my old 1.4 civic in place on ice ;)

Cockpit view is nice, but it does bother my eyes. It's like looking at a TV through a TV. Some deph of field would be nice. Blur the dashboard.
