This looks amazingly good, but I would love to see a video of someone going in and out of this one.

Hands on the side rail and lift up until you can get your feet under you, stand on the seat and step out. Easier to type than to do I'm sure!

Hi guys, just wondering how would you compare a seat from a premium car (leather) on a DIY rig compared to one of these cockpits on the marketplace?
:)

seats are all relative to the end user, Some like bucket seats, some like the gushy/plush feel a Rear Car seat offer's. I personally wouldn't trade my bucket seat for anything.

real racing car seats is obviously more sturdy and will hold up better over time. Though the seats for sim racing aren´t abused quite as much since few like I am get pedals where you can apply F1 brake pressures but run G27 pedals and other silly stuff :)

playseat seat did flex even with nixim modded G27s. As for bucket or plush whatever suits your body. Leather I would avoid it just get to hot.

That's actually how I have to get into/out of my "transformable box" cockpit. :lol

I'm like Bo and Luke Duke.

Can someone tell me if cockpit does support caster?
I would add caster under cockpit frame but its hard to say if cockpit can handle me + wheel + pedal + shifter + cockpit weight itself?

DIY the skill is quite limiting. It´s not like I could build something like my Nixim Racecraft GT mysellf

I am assuming that you mean your personal DIY skill is limited...
...so in your case the money you spent for your Nixim was worth it. ;)

There are a few folks who frequent this forum that have the chops to do it.
People like @left888 come to mind for example.

Depends on the type of rig (cockpit), and weight of course.

My friend in Brasil installed these under his Playseat and he is a big guy.
He has a T500 + TH8 RS shifter. His floor is tile and throw rug.

If you have carpet, furniture sliders will work, thats what I use.

Thanks, yes i do have carpet but my cockpit is made in MDF part, it is built very light. Yes my first DIY cockpit (i havent many DIY skills but i focused into it and with some inspiration i finally made it)

This is what I did:

You could do similar concept using furniture sliders for MDF.
I just cut the foam insert out to match the shape of blocks under my rig.
Then I used velcro to attach, that way they are removable if need be.

Doubt he could copy a nixim. Most seem to build using 80/20 alu profiles etc. Still very impressive builds though and way better then I can achieve :D

I made a rig using an R-seat Evo frame with a Corbeau wide racing seat (I'm a bigger guy). Mounted it on a carpeted wood frame with 3" casters. Rolls out of the way when not in use. It has over 2 years of heavy use with no problems. This is a spouse friendly solution.

Thanks, great idea

:confused::confused: Do you use a ladder? Or is it the kind of seat that once you get in, you'll never want to get out?

@Cote Dazur posted it, but its not his rig.

You'll have to ask the guy who built it. You can see the original thread for it here at ISR.
He is a Williams F1 engineer. The rig uses a real F1 seat he was able to obtain through his job.

* Same thread ^ has a post by @nicka117 to make your own custom-molded F1 style seat.

I didn't think it was his rig, I meant "you" as in, any person wishing to enter the cool chair. Anyway, thanks for the info and link Jogo.

The other day I found that I had enoguh money to buy a new wheel and as my dfgt made some strange noises I didn't think it twice and bought a t500 rs, now when I push the brake my normal study chair(where I usually race) bends a bit so I can push the pedal 100% now and therefore I'm losing time...

That's what made me think about purchasing a cockpit but before I wanted to ask if one would solve my problem or they bend as well and I should better reduce the pressure needed to brake? If the best idea is to buy one, which ones should I consider? I've seen the playseats and de rseats rs1 but maybe the experts can give me some new options, my budget limit would be 500-600€ but cheaper options would be highly appreciated and considered if they perform efficiently.

Thank you in advance guys
I've built my own for very cheap so I would say yes, they are worth it. However, I don't think I could pay a few hundred $$ for any of them. I would jump straight into full motion rigs at that point.

My DIY rig went from Static to motion and cost me 1/4 of what a Commercial Unit would have cost me, Not to mention my motor's are faster, quieter and more durable than the "other" style of motion. I would NEVER pay for 1000's of $$ for something i can build myself.

Finally I ended up with this, I had no means to build one and this rig was the one I liked the most so here it is

Congrats on your new rig!

Wow, the T500 looks massive on it. How is the stability?
Seat looks much plusher than older rSeat model I tried a couple years ago. 👍

The stability is great! The double arm that supports the wheelbase does its job pretty well but the seat is the same it was for the previous model I guess, when you have spent some time on it you still feel some pain in th ass to be honest...

Thanks, I will pass this on about the wheel deck stability to my friend in Brasil.
He really wants to get one.

Yep. I made mine with mostly plywood and 2x4s. I use a recaro from an E30.

In a word, no. My lap times in my $1000 rig are marginally faster than those I set with my old DFGT hooked to a raggedy desk. Cockpits are more for making the gaming experience more fun and realistic, not necessarily making you faster...
