I don't think they ever mentioned they were going for "realism" in looks. Personally, i love the artistic direction they go for. Bloomy, vibrant colors, compared to the dull gray-layered colors of games like GTR2 and stuff.

Worry about the physics, not the look.

Have you played Formula 1 CE, because that game isn't dull at all. I found the graphics in that game was really colorful and good. Especially if you played a track like Monza in the sunset. The new F1 looks just, depressing:(

Feels like Codemaster lost everything they once had, and that F1 2010? will be as GRID but with F1-cars:ouch:

Cheesh. Grid was a brilliant game, yet it didn't age that well - the graphics were great back at release, but for instance the schematic cars in the rear view mirror look very odd today.

But, if the hype surrounding the wet weather effects, both visually and driving wise, is true, then it'll add another whole new layer of challenge to the racing and it could spice things up considerably. Honestly, chasing PBs and leaderboard times is totally 1990s.

Throw in the side-kick aspect, and it could be a very neat, rich game. And it offers more depth than going round the same track over and over and over again without any real purpose.

I especially found the sponsoring detail of Grid a very simple, yet fantastic idea, would love to see it returning.

So, especially for F1 fans, that's going to be a tough kid on the block. Seriously, racing a F1 car along side Schuhmacher sounds not so bad compared to wrestling a pimped Mazda round the Ring for the 1000st time.

Don't get what youn mean when you say chasing pb and leaderboard times is old school. That for me is what it's about. Oh well each to there own. Lookin forward to this one. 30 fps is a bummer though. Suppose the amount of cars on track put the 60 fps out the window.

I love how everyone instantly judges the visuals first, as if it were the most important aspect of a game. Who gives a flying hell if it doesn't look as good as Gran Turismo - does that make GT better by default?

This is why games only top out at about 20+ hours these days because visuals take priority. With that said, I am definitely looking forward to this...I'm still (yes, still) trying to get my hands on a brand new copy of F1: CE.

Well everyone else is doing it, so I made a version too :P

In the video, they showing the pre-alpha build so it should be better. But seeing how their games look, I don't expect much better.

It does sound good, i hope the cars drive well, thats going to be the determining factor on whether i buy the game. But if it will compete with gt5?.... thats a silly question.

Bit suss that it is on the Grid engine, but I'll be getting it either way, will help kill the time till 2011.
Hope it has challenges like in the old F1 games, like finish on ruined Tyres, don't let someone past etc. They were great!!!

This makes me want to play F1:CE again...

Just picked up a new PS3 slim since my Fat PS3 died and my GT5p disc is stuck inside it. I started playing F1 CE. I'm starting to have fun in career mode. :)

For starters saying F1 vs GT5 is abit like saying Halo 3 vs MW2. What I mean by this is they might be both FPS games but they are so different makes them pointless comparing.

I have always enjoyed F1 racing games but to be honest its a shame F1 & GT5 release dates might be near to each other. If F1 had been released next month then it would of been perfect. However if GT5 is released 1 month after F1 then I won't bother.

Why discuss the physics when we know nothing about it? It's kind of pointless in my opinion.

Discussed the graphics because it's the only thing we've seen from the game. I didn't compare the graphics with GT5 either, compared it with F1CE which is like 3-4 years old:)

It looks very good, but what I can make out of the 2 seconds of in-car view, the physics seem quite off to me.

There are already dozens and dozens of sim racers out that have implemented features that Codies' F1 game is just now coming around to including. Assuming CM gets their collective heads out of their EA-like rears, they're going to have to measure up to them.

But single class racing gets old after a while to many of us. We're spoiled by the rich racing banquet in several classes of racing that Gran Turismo offers. Screaming around a track at Sonic speeds is fun for a while, but I want to take a modified 240SX and Supra around a track most of the time.

I seem to recall similar discussions about Ferrari Challenge, Forza 3, Shift... ;)

If GT5 is going to implement dynamic whether then F1 2010 will be the game to compare it to.

No game before has done wet weather driving that well before IMO.

And bear in mind that it's looking that good in a pre-alpha version. All the guys from the codies forums who got to go to the media event yesterday are saying some very good things about this.

The weather effects look sweet. The rain on F1;CE was good but this just looks incredible. We haven't seen any footage at all of GT5's rain effects but it certainly has a lot to live up to. The damage too looks good, especially on the second race after the first chicane.

I'd love to see some kind of legends mode included where you can race up against the likes of Senna/ Mansell/ Prost.

I think I'll definatly be getting this game when it comes out. It'll keep me busy until GT5 comes out next spring.....:sly:

p.s. Who's the music by that's playing in the video?

Wow impressive I will buy this game!!!!!!!

Game looks sweet and makes me want to play F1:CE again but in the end this game could be the best racing game in the world however its limited scope means it would have little if any effect on GT5s eventual release.

Screw the rain effects, I want to know if that sand on the tires is affecting traction.

It's certainly is, just as the marbles will if you go off line to overtake and pick them up. The marbles also develop over the course of the race. The track changes over the course of the weekend. Friday practice track is green, over the course of the weekend it is rubbered in but if it rains at any point the track will return to a green state. Tyres can also, grain, blister and delaminate.

I agree, I think it's daft to have a GT5 v F1 2010 thread. They are two different beasts. But we should definitely looking at some of the features that F1 2010 is going to implement and compare GT5 against those. I think GT5 will have a hard time matching some of the features in F1 2010, particulalry the dynamic track & weather system, but if it can then......WOW! What a game we will have on our hands.
