That is bizarre, he's obviously got some pneumatic system moving his chair around but the steering wheel is not connected to the chair so it stays in exactly the same position throughout. SO he is effectively driving whilst his steering wheel is moving around!!

Search for frex simconmontion on youtube ;)

I agree the static wheel is a little silly for such an expensive rig, but the simconmotion only moves the chair.

Ive been a huge F1 fan for aslong as i was old enough to realise what was goin on on the tv screen so i'm goin to buy F1 '10 definitely without any doubts at all. I still play F1:CE so it will definitely be good to play a game with the current cars/team rosters.

I dont think this game can be compared to GT5 they're both driving games but thats about as far as it goes i think.

Can't imagine how weird that would be. Bit like trying to adjust the steering column in your car whilst driving!!

GT5 will be better in many ways, though in some aspects the F1 game will shine.

Especially the track dynamics (dynamic weather with drying lines and puddles) and the damage model will probably outdo the implementations we see in GT5 (although we haven't seen much of both).

I hope they'll make it more of a sim, but I also had great fun with GRID :)

Overall GT5 will most likely be better due to higher diversity, lasting appeal and the getting-that-last-tenth-off-your-time-factor.

perfect.👍

gt5 will be great! after 5+ years of creating, and over $80 million+, it best be!!! f1 2010 will be great to! codies have alot to live up to, putting on davidson and the guy from GP3 it sounds like they are on the right track. all those vids as mentioned are pre-alphas (limited damage,no downforce, and the brakes were not working properly so they had to use twice the range to stop.usually stop within 100feet..well that day they had to use 200feet). you got that then alpha, then beta...then i think customer release / gold. i worked on a beta testing team for years and it's not as easy as you think. long way to go and the weather is great already. and they only had approved licenses for 14 cars at the time of that open house day.
codies compared to pd is like comparing a small small very nice home to a mansion!!both are nice, but the mansion is huge! codies are not trying to please everyone either! they didnot buy the license for a safety car(so it will not be in the game) nor will there be formation or cool down laps)they say possibly for f1 2011!
yes, if you donot like f1, then you could prolly care less about f1 2010. but if you do, this could be the best f1 game ever released!and if the sounds and physics equal what they have done so far...wowzerss

Eurogamer have had a hands on and some new info released. The game supposedly ships in sept. With GT 5 due around oct what's the chances of a hands on next month.

This topic should be closed! Why? Because F1-2010 will be total crap arcade. Nothing more nothing less. You can't compare arcade game with GT!!

The whole concept behind simconmotion is to simulate g-force, not the movement of the car so while it may look kinda weird, it actually works quite well. With system that also moves the steering wheel, you don't feel the lateral pull as much since the wheel is moving in the same direction as you are. I don't know how well the system would work with regular wheels- Logitech or Fanatec but it probably needs a Frex-wheel, which do put out an enormous amount of force, to get the best result.

I have always had great respect for Codemasters racing games. Im sure im not the only one who has owned both their games AND the GT games. I think anybody who is a fan of racing games in general owe it to themselves to have both in their collection. Besides, while the damage in the upcoming GT is a welcome addition, i think it will have to go a long way to beat codemasters in that regard. Codemasters are the best when it comes to damage in racing games. GT games are in a class of their own, but if Codies can do the F1 licence justice with their new game, i think it will be thrilling. I personally will get them both.

Yeah, well, this was also in Toca, Grid and Dirt. If their game is at the quality level of the Toca games, then it'll be decent. If not... well, I remember all the hype around Shift and Forza 3...

Don't want to stray from the subject here, but i agree that Shift was overrated, and a big let down. I think this was due to EA. The developers, Slightly Mad, could have and SHOULD have delivered a proper racing sim that may have challenged GT. But EA obviously put some restraints on them, wanting to maintain the arcadey, linear-driven system that has been the hallmark of all NFS games. If Slightly Mad were given freedom to make their own game, i think it would have been much better.

There is a very fine line between making a sim and making it fun. GT gets it right because, although it's a sim, people persevere because it just oozes quality. F1:CE got it wrong in many ways because, although it looked the part, it was just too...dry. Plus you couldn't set up your car properly because of the limited options. Best F1 game ever? It's a toss up between 3: Geoff Crammond's F1 game from years ago; F1 '97 on the PS1; the first F1 game on PS2(think it was F1' 07). The best racing game codemasters have done is Grid, because it strikes a good balance between all things we like in a racing game.

the first F1 game on PS2(think it was F1' 07).

F1 07?

I think the first F1 game on the PS2 was EAs F1 championship season 2000, it was crazy, you could do a lap of spa by modulating the throttle and only touching the brake for the hairpin.

Yeah i got my dates mixed up. F1 03 by studio liverpool was the best ps2 F1 game.

From some of the reports I've rad, the only physics available for the press event was the pre-alpha arcade mode.

I was hoping that CM would've included helmet view, something similar to this:

20-Apr-08-7066-ATYAAAAkuVWUyJtMNOmj_7jjw05yOsvuHfF1dvM2rFEUqlULv3QS7OoHAc-1m7CwtTX3O5b44av28aJiQVxUUFsxmTDgAJtU9VA6Y_N6yIutODE8GMtknerteyK7ow2.jpg

Rain effect and helmet-view with tear-off strips would just be awesome.

Erm, what game is that screenshot with the helmet view from? Cos it looks total ****. If Codies new F1 game looked even half as bad as that they should be hung.

Don't get me started on Forza 3! Hate that game, HATE IT! U know wht it reminds me of? In the Pixar movie 'Incredibles', at the beginning there was a kid who dressed up and wanted to team up with Mr. Incredible, and the main man told him to sod off. Turns out the kid grew up and became the films baddie. That's what the Forza series is - an insolent pretender to GT's throne. It may be doing well now, but it will get it's arse kicked when GT5 is released. Heh heh.

It lets you put the V8 out of a Z06 into an Aveo, which you can also convert to rear wheel drive. Name something you can do in GT that is better than that.

Rfactor, which is a computer game and graphics vary depending on the computer. Besides, buying a racing game for the graphics is like buying a porno for the acting.

If you didn't like F1:CE in general that's fine (personal opinion and all that), but as far as "set ups" go you must not have played the F1:CE that I, and many others, know and love. The component tuning may not be as in depth as some of the more hard core PC F1 sims, but to say one couilnd't set up their car properly is hog wash. In fact, without signifcant tuning on certain tracks I couldn't get a car to handle the way I needed to fit my driving style.

I like the dirt and debris effects - GT5 needs this 👍

nice hand gesture, and as typical with Monza, shortcut across the chicanes :D

I have to laugh how alot of people are treating this game from CM as the second coming !!

How can you all be so increadibly positive in your praise for a game when all you have seen is a few crappy of screen videos?

And as for the wet weather, when's the last time you saw water lying on a track the way it seems to be lying in that video? Thats about as unrealistic as it gets !

Considering there's still another ~6 months left of development, it's looking pretty good right now.

Day 1 buy for me, simply because I've been striving for a decent F1 game since the 2007:Championship Edition.

Those vids ( although the driving isn't exactly top notch ) are more convincing than the official promo as the physics seem to be completely different from anything previously seen by Codemasters.
Most driving games by Codies always had the cars turn on a central pivot but this physics engine looks more fluently and the graphics look good too.

Hopefully they get it nailed this time as i've always wanted to really like their games but never actually really did.
Not sure i'll buy it immediately as GT5 probably arrives shortly after and i already know they've got everything nailed and offer the sort of content i personally prefer to a game dedicated to one racing series.

But they could have done worse than giving the F1 licence to Codemasters.

I don't think it's accurate to say Grid 'strikes a good balance between all things we like in a racing game', given how it's completely unrealistic and undriveable for someone with a wheel, so that rules out anyone who's into sims. Whilst I agree that F1 CE is slightly 'dry', it does have pretty extensive set up options, so I'm not sure where you're basing your opinion on it from.

As for those expecting F1 2010 to be arcade rubbish, I feared this for a long time but recently i've come to believe that it won't be for a few reasons:

A - They've openly come out and said that the handling of this game is tailored to a very different audience to that of Dirt and Grid. Whereas in previous interviews about Dirt 2 they've tip-toed around the sim vs arcade question and given the typical PR answer of 'both', now they insist they're aiming for realism, but that they want to present it in a fun way that makes it accessible. That is fair enough.

B - With the sheer amount of detail they've gone into in creating the track surface - rubbering in the racing line, marbles off the racing line, the track being green at the start of the weekend and getting faster as it progresses, drying lines, cooling your tyres off the drying line, tyre wear, tyre blisters, tyre graining, flatspots (these have all been confirmed in the game), taking data from race engineers and using Anthony Davidson as their consultant - it'd be pretty pointless doing all of that if they were to turn around and make it handle like Grid again.

C - Several members of the Codemasters forum were at the press event unveiling the game and play tested it, all with wheels and the feedback has been very positive. What is clear from everyone who played it is that the handling is completely different to that of Dirt/Grid etc.

Don't know about anybody else, but in game looks remarkably similar to the video of Alonso at Monza above.
