Welcome to Fall/Autumn! It means that pure football weather is on the way. Cooler temperatures on the way. Or for some places like Pittsburgh or Seattle, pretty damn cold. I really enjoy cooler weather. It's really good here in Houston. While it may not be deceptively cold in Houston in colder temperatures, it's at least livable. You can have clear skies and comfortable cool weather later in the year and early next. Speaking of Fall, some teams fell and fell hard.

Last Week...

Notre Dame is 0-4 For the First Time in School History
The blue and gold. Most people say Notre Dame are overrated pieces of trash. They talk about them not being in a conference for football, too good to be on regular TV (so most of their games are on NBC), and all that. Notre Dame is having a nightmarish season. Lethargic at best. They've lost to Georgia Tech, at Penn State, at Michigan, and now to Michigan State. Notre Dame's looking like the 2006 Colorado Buffaloes at this point.

Michigan Returns to Winning
Appalachian State and [especially] Oregon took down Michigan. You can't keep a good Wolverine down. So they took it to Notre Dame and now Penn State. Michigan State is next on the hit list for Michigan. I'll have Appalachian State later in this report.

Kentucky Surprises the Nation: 4-0 This Season
Eastern Kentucky. Kent State. Louisville. Now at Arkansas. Kentucky's having a great season with their standout QB, Andre' Woodson. Anyone who thought Kentucky would be the SEC's version of Duke or Temple are sadly mistaken this season.

Louisville on the Schnide
Two successive losses. It almost seems like the loss against Kentucky during Week 3 deflated the hot air balloon of Louisville's offense. BCS Bowl hopes are pretty much dead. Even more so when you lose to a struggling offense like Syracuse. Being a good team and losing to Syracuse has to bite you on the backside pretty hard. On a bright side, Louisville lost by a combined 9 points. So it isn't like they lost in lopsided affairs. Their offense isn't putting up 50-point scores and winning by more than two touchdowns. Not the Louisville of old. Let's see if Louisville can regain their stride in their next game.

Appalachian State Falls from Grace
The Mountaineers made all kinds of publicity by beating Michigan at Michigan. Now, the Mountaineers of Boone, North Carolina fell to the Wofford Terriers. The Spartanburg, SC boys got it done at home against the visiting Mountaineers. Appalachian State's 17-game winning streak came to an end after winning two successive National Championships.

What Happened to Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh lost 34-14 last night as Connecticut... that's right- Connecticut... came in and beat down Pittsburgh. The Panthers would lose to UConn in basketball (men or women), but this was a deplorable loss for the Steel City Kitties.

Houston Rules, Rice Stinks (nothing new, actually ^_^)
Houston improved to 2-1 as they took down Colorado State. A game I didn't report was Rice at Texas. Texas exorcised Rice badly. I believe they are winless. The big match between Houston and Rice will take place next month. The Cougars are trying to do without their dynamic quarterback, Kevin Kolb, who was since drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Illinois and Indiana Share a 3-1 Record
Illinois beat Indiana on the road on Saturday. The (whatever Illinois' new nickname is (granted it's no longer the Fighting Illini)) edged out the Indiana Hoosiers. Both teams normally aren't the powers of Big Ten football, but they both share a 3-1 record.

Let's Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!
There was a rumble alright. This rumble involved North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T. North Carolina A&T lost more than a simple game of pigskin... they lost sportsmanship as well. From what I read from CSTV's bottom line, this was a bench-clearing brawl which had to have the police intervene with pepper spray. Some athletes were injured in this horrendous skirmish.

Division 2 Rushing Record Broken
Chadron State saw RB Danny Woodhead break the all-time NCAA Division 2 rushing record be broken with over 7,066 rushing yards of offense by the Chadron State boys. The previous record was 6,985 yards by Germaine Race of Pittsburg State back in 2003-2006. It would be interesting if Chadron State took on the #1 Grand Valley State Lakers with Chadron State's rushing threat.

Here's your AP Top 25 for the Football Bowl Subdivision after Saturday. See if your favorite team is in this list:

01 - Southern California*
02 - Louisiana State*
03 - Oklahoma*
04 - Florida*
05 - West Virginia*

06 - California*

Here is an NFL Focus as we go from college to a brief look at the NFL. I'm a Houston native, so I'll usually start with my hometown team.

[I}--- NFL Focus ---[/I]

Houston Faces a Stern Test Against the Defending NFL Champs
* Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
Andre Johnson was not available to play. Even though Houston ran the ball back for a touchdown on the opening kickoff (after Indy was offsides), the Texans still couldn't contain players like the Houston native, Joseph Addai. Matt Schaub made some poor passes. Eric Killings for the Texans was whacked on Special Teams for a kickoff and was motionless. He has a neck injury. Prognosis on his condition is unknown. Texans were going down like flies with injuries. This included players like Ahman Green, Ron Dayne, and Jacoby Jones. Injuries depleted this Houston team, and the boys weren't able to take down the Indianapolis Colts. So Indy takes an early lead in the AFC South. Give the Texans credit for hanging in there. Hanging in there won't win you games, but it gives you confidence in future games. Indy gets Denver next while Houston will travel to Matt Schaub's former team- the Atlanta Falcons. (30-24; Indianapolis Colts)

Brett Favre Wants To Break Some More Records
* San Diego Chargers at Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre ties the NFL touchdown pass record, but his Packers couldn't take down the San Diego Chargers unit. (31-24; San Diego Chargers)

Philadelphia... Overrated?
* Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia came out with their old gold and sky blue colors. I like a combination of blue and gold. I probably would like blue as the primary color and gold as the secondary. The dark green and white weren't in the house, but their colors shone brighter than the blue and white Detroit Lions. Ten wins for Detroit? You can scratch (56-21; PHILADELPHIA EAGLES)

A Number of Teams Sporting Classic Colors
The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins played seperate games and wore throwback colors. We saw Pittsburgh have some classic colors last weekend

John Force Injured in Crash
John Force won a drag racing round, but the multiple-time Funny Car Champion lost control and whacked the wall in the other lane. He was alert and well. It would have been tragic if we had lost John Force much like we've lost Colin McRae.

And Your the New MotoGP Champion is...
...21-year old Australian, Casey Stoner. He stoned the MotoGP pack as he was able to win the Grand Prix of Japan at Twin Ring Motegi's full road course. Rossi had some troubles while Casey Stoner kept it on both wheels to win the title. The next round is in three weeks at... Phillip Island- an Australian track. A dream scenario would be that Casey Stoner finishes behind Valentino Rossi in Japan, but comes back in Australia to beat Rossi and clinch the title on home ground. Regardless, my hat's off to the Aussie.

More action when play resumes. So let's talk about Week 5.

Next weeks Michigan game is at Northwestern and I can not watch it because it's on the Big Ten Network, something my cable provider doesn't carry. I hate that Big Ten Network since it's just them being greedy and wanting more and more money.

Anyways Northwestern shouldn't give Michigan any problems, they are 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten.

Today is significant in American history because this was the day in which schools would be integrated, thus further ending segregation across many schools. And Joey D, I'm sorry I mixed up the schedule a bit for Michigan. Looks like your Paul Bunyan Trophy rivals will be coming up shortly. Who do you think is better under center for the Wolverines- Chad Henne or Ryan Mallett? I think that Michigan was talking about not pressuring Mallett all that much as far as being the full-on leader of the team. But which quarterback do you think is better?

I'll have more to discuss when I have a longer report to give out. Before I leave, one of my personal friends is looking to become an amazing R&B artist. Have a listen to her music by checking out this link: < http://www.myspace.com/ashleymarsee >. Maybe if you have Myspace, you may want to add her to your friends list if you like her music. She has two songs: "Beautiful Struggle" and a demo of "Today." She believes that R&B isn't really fun anymore since most of today's R&B usually relates to trashy and seductive detail. She's trying to make a change by offering up amazing vocals with inspirational lyrics. You might like her music if you are fond of classical R&B music. And if you go to my Myspace page ( http://www.myspace.com/johnbmarine ), she's in my Top 36. So you can link from there.

Other than that, have a great day and hope to chat with you all again next time.

Henne is better bar none, but Mallet will be an awesome QB once he gets settled down. I have high hopes for that kid.

Let's go cats!!!

So, four down and eight to go. I predict 5-0 this weekend after we take down former Louisville head coach Howard Schnellenberger's Florida Atlantic team. In the paper today Schnellenberger was interviewed and when he was told that half the stadium left at half time and they booed Louisville off the field he was, for the first time ever, at a loss for words. Could it be true? Had Louisville fans turned into the same kind of people that Kentucky fans are? Yes.

And now, Howard, you must face the Kentucky team that has sullied your previous team.

Kentucly glory is growing larger and we are marching forward without letting up. The injury report is good for this weekend as all but one player is expected to be ready.

After this week, though, there is a tough month ahead in October as we must face South Carolina, LSU, and Florida. Two top five teams. Can the cats handle them? Only tiem will tell. Right now we have Florida Atlantic.

As Coach Brooks said on his call-in show last night, we cannot get caught up in celebrating our victories now. We have to focus so that we can celebrate our victories in January.

To think... Kentucky used to have been the most inferior SEC football team besides Mississippi State. Your school is a seven-time National Champion in men's basketball. A dynasty of suceess on the hardwood. Now, a lot of people are being convinced that Kentucky's turned the corner. But you're right. When SEC play SERIOUSLY starts, guess what. You have to contend with LSU and... a school called... uh... Florida. You need to be on point for all your team's remaining games. Andre' Woodson has to be the field general for the footballin' Wildcats. As the field general, his troops (so to speak) must execute their end of the bargain perfectly without fail. Regardless of the final win-loss for 2007, your Wildcats are looking great. FoolKiller, I'm actually proud reporting the Wildcats' success they are having. So let me ask you a series of questions about Kentucky.

For Kentucky
1.) What do you think is the biggest accomplishment for the Wildcats this season? Is it that Kentucky can show their strength in football as they are in men's basketball? Or what?

2.) Do you think Andre' Woodson could be a Heisman candidate, if not a winner?

3.) What are the chances (out of 100%) that Kentucky...
(a) ...makes it (returns, rather) to a BCS Bowl Game?
(b) ...wins the SEC East Championship?
(c) ...wins the SEC Championship
(d) ...that Kentucky will be National Champions within the next 5 years, or at least be eligible to be in one?

HALO 3 has been released in stores. And while I'm not an XBOX "fanboy," the theme for HALO 3 is about believing. So here's a little bit of my mind.

EXTRA: You've Got to Believe
Your team is doing terribly. They aren't having a great season. They can't win even simple games. The true mettle of a true fan of a college or university is to believe in a team even in losing times. Remember when in basketball that Iona College lost a handful of games until they won game #1 late in the season? Think of the non-football school known as California Tech. These boys had had something of 11 straight seasons without a win. They finally broke through and won. A team may be terrible, but you never want to stop believing. Think of Rutgers and Wake Forest last season in football. Name me somebody who thought that both of these schools wouldn't even make the Bowl Season. Teams can come up and surprise you. By this same token... Mississippi State could beat LSU. Temple could beat Ohio State. Stanford could beat Southern California. The teams play for a reason- to unite with fans and get them to believe. Believe in winning. Believe in setting standards. Believe in proving doubters wrong. If a game looks to be over, a team can bounce back if they can produce and if their loving fans can help support their beloved members of the team. Believing in teams may not help them win a National Championship, but at least it means that the team has the support of their loving fans. Believe, and anything is possible.

In other tidbits, it's said that Chad Henne could be ready to go this Saturday when they play Northwestern. I'm not sure if he'll actually start over Ryan Mallett. Michigan has a chance to go above 0.500 for the first time this season. It seems possible because the Wildcats are coming off of back-to-back losses. The Wolverines/[Northwestern] Wildcats match will be on the Big Ten network. But all you'll need to see what happens is a GTPlanet account and a visit to my college football threads. I'll try and talk about that when the game is over.

Here's some Louisville talk. They'll go to North Carolina State (I think). As far as Louisville goes, something FoolKiller told me was a bit related to the 2006 Duke University men's basketball team. I think he said that Duke's been losing a lot after dominating so many teams over the years. If that's true, then is Louisville heading for a tailspin because of their dominance over opponents? If the developing North Carolina State Wolfpack beat Louisville, then Steve Kragthorpe is going to require some answers as to what's going on this season.

Finally, Coach Gundy of Oklahoma State has completely defended one of his players as an Oklahoma columnist completely slammed him. The columnist is a lady named Jenni. She questioned this Oklahoma State Cowboy to the point of belittling him and his abilities. She stands behind her claims... but so does Coach Gundy.

More random nonsense from me in future reports (unless a game is played). Toodles!

Or what?
We beat Louisville and got ranked by doing it. At the end of the year and going into next season the first thing all the fans will remember is we beat Louisville. When people reflect on the season they will say something like, "It was great because we beat Louisville, we won X Bowl, we were ranked X in eth nation, and we succeeded in our conference." Even if X Bowl is a BCS bowl beating Louisville will come first. We are very focused on rivals. If we beat Florida, Tennessee, and LSU we will all remember that before we talk about the overall season. That is why fans, no matter how disgusted don't give up and keep showing up for games, because we take each victory to heart.

2.) Do you think Andre' Woodson could be a Heisman candidate, if not a winner?
He is a Heisman candidate in my book. I doubt he would actually get it, unless we get to a BCS bowl or he does some kind of superhuman feat near the end of the season where it will still stick out fresh in the judges minds.

3.) What are the chances (out of 100%) that Kentucky...
(a) ...makes it (returns, rather) to a BCS Bowl Game?
30% I think we are good, but we aren't perfect and completely on point yet. We shouldn't win because we overcame mistakes. When we begin winning because we didn't make mistakes, then we will have a shot. Plus, I doubt the judges will elevate us that high in one year.

(b) ...wins the SEC East Championship?
50% We have to beat Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.Georgia and Tennessee I think will be wins for us, but South Carolina's defense scares me and it is an away game, and Florida in general scares me.

(c) ...wins the SEC Championship
25% Take what I said above and then add LSU. 'Nuff said.

(d) ...that Kentucky will be National Champions within the next 5 years, or at least be eligible to be in one?
20% I can't make a judgment call after one great season, but I think we are in too tough of a conference to ever go with one loss or less. It is eth same reason why I think SEC teams get screwed out of bowl opportunities, all of us have to play too many good teams. I can think of a way around that to be more fair <cough>playoff<cough>, but no one in charge wants to listen to me.

HALO 3 has been released in stores. And while I'm not an XBOX "fanboy," the theme for HALO 3 is about believing. So here's a little bit of my mind.
I don't get the believe campaign for Halo 3. I understand the Finish the Fight stuff, but Believe makes no sense. Believe in what? That Master Chief is real? I don't get it. It makes much more sense for UK football.

EXTRA: You've Got to Believe
Your team is doing terribly. They aren't having a great season. They can't win even simple games. The true mettle of a true fan of a college or university is to believe in a team even in losing times.

Believing in teams may not help them win a National Championship, but at least it means that the team has the support of their loving fans. Believe, and anything is possible.
Even in the worst of years Kentucky fans will fill Commonwealth Stadium. We get good for short spurts every 20 years or so, but the fans never quit watching, waiting, and believing.

Here's some Louisville talk. They'll go to North Carolina State (I think). As far as Louisville goes, something FoolKiller told me was a bit related to the 2006 Duke University men's basketball team. I think he said that Duke's been losing a lot after dominating so many teams over the years.
Duke fans turned ugly last year.

If that's true, then is Louisville heading for a tailspin because of their dominance over opponents? If the developing North Carolina State Wolfpack beat Louisville, then Steve Kragthorpe is going to require some answers as to what's going on this season.
You know, in my lifetime Louisville never succeeded in football - neither did Kentucky. Louisville has been building their program for over ten years and it finally culminated in a BCS bowl last year. Louisville fans who had been quiet, not waering shirts often, no car flags to speak of, etc, suddenly became HUGE fans. Car flags and t-shirts were hard to find they sold out so fast. I have seen no car flags this week. Well, I have seen lots of blue flags, but no more than usual this time of year. There are no Louisville flags flying. The fans quickly left the stadium and those that were left booed the team on Saturday.

Louisville will most likely beat NC State, but they better make it definitive. No 10 yard punts. Kragthorpe is in the hotseat. He has his call in show tonght and he will have to answer a ton of tough questions. It should be interesting. If Louisville loses to NC State then I wonder if Kragthorpe will make it to the end of the season.

I haven't heard about this. Do you have any links?

Here is a YouTube link to what I mentioned about Coach Gundy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoMmbUmKN0E

Enjoy, player!
"It makes me want to puke!" :lol: Go Gundy!

I didn't get to read the entire article, or any of her response, as the news site requires registration after one page, but from what I read she was somehow making him out to be a bad player because he was letting his mom feed him some food on the road and he was having a laughing conversation with a coach during a loss. She would hate to see me having a bad day at work. I always joke my way through bad days to help relieve the stress. Then she based everything else on "rumors and rumblings." To try and defend your "facts" after calling them rumors and rumblings the first time around is sad.

Also, for a sports reporter she seems to have more of a stereotypical woman's view towards football. She made comments about him sitting out due to injuries and said football is a game where you play hurt. That sounds like a comment my wife would say, and I repeatedly have to explain to my wife why the TV puts blue and yellow lines on the field. This isn't a guy getting paid millions to play with broken ribs (Marc Bulger), this is a college kid trying to stay healthy long enough to have a chance at getting paid millions to play hurt.

With luck Gundy has drawn enough attention to her and her shoddy style that she will be known for it and won't get much farther in her career. Truth is she will probably be picked up by some sports site that likes trying to put down players and make fun of athletes. Shame.

Howdy! Here are some of tonight's matches:

* The once-powerful MEMPHIS Tigers are now a crying shame. See if a trip to meet ARKANSAS STATE Indians will help. Both teams are 1-2, so the winner will improve to 0.500.

* Two of the best "mid-major" football schools will compete as SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI will head all the way up to Idaho to meet the Broncos of BOISE STATE.

Two FCS matches will be a showcase of historically-black universities.

* The Skyhawks of TENNESSEE-MARTIN will take to the skies to fly into TENNESSEE TECH to try to take down the Golden Eagles.

* The Spartans of NORFOLK STATE will hit the road to meet a bunch of Aggies. Can NORTH CAROLINA A&T end their losing streak?

EXTRA: More on the North Carolina Central at North Carolina A&T Brawl
North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T played last Saturday. I reported that a bench-clearing brawl ensued. I found a video of what happened. I'd like to warn you that there may be some inappropriate language in this video. If you want to see what happened between the NCCU Eagles and the NCA&T Aggies, here's the video: < http://shakedownsports.com/2007/09/25/north-carolina-at-protects-their-house/ >.

NCCU actually displayed poor sportsmanship as they defeated North Carolina A&T. Then they did something you just don't do- stomp down on the other team's logo. What happened then? RUMBLE! The two schools have made amends to not play each other for the 2008 season. The site also features some bonus pictures of the brawl that ensued. It's poor sportsmanship that got really ugly. Neither school has reported on the brawl on their respective websites.

That's all. I'll even have any Division 2 and Division 3 match action when I get around to them. Enjoy your Thursday night of college football.

The National Collegiate Athletics Association has over 88 sports where a National Champion is decided in each of them. You came to this threads like this for one of the 88 sports. So why don't I treat you for it? The first games of Fall/Autumn are due to start this weekend. A regular weekend of college football usually starts after Friday afternoon is done. For the college football fan, the weekend begins Thursday evening. The key FBS game represents my favorite color- blue. Think about when Christopher Columbus thought he reached India by sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. This land he thought he was at (India) is actually unknown at the time. So when new territory was discovered, people wanted to settle and take control of as much of the land as possible. Make colonies. Try to connect with the people (easier said than done).

--- Division 1: Bowl Subdivision Scores ---
To start this batch of scores, I'm going to pamper you if you love the color blue.

If You Think Blue is Beautiful, You're in for a Treat
* Southern Mississippi {Golden Eagles} at Boise State {Broncos}
Let's start a new week of action against two teams that don't know each other. I take American History (before 1877) in my Fall 2007 lineup of classes. The two key words for this game is "uncharted territory." Not a lot of college football takes place in the Rocky Mountains or so. Most of the teams either outline the Pacific coast, the Atlantic Coast, the Gulf Coast, the American Southeast, the American Southwest, New England, the Midwest, New England, and even Hawaii. There are only three(?) known football schools in Idaho in Division 1: Idaho, Idaho State, and Boise State. Southern Mississippi wants to win a game against the best mid-major in FBS. They also, however, want a learning experience. The players don't know much about Boise State besides the blue turf. The Golden Eagles are ready to spread their black and gold far northwest. Let's meet the blue crew. Welcome to Boise State University. This is a college football paradise, an exotic land in which you'll find the strangeest 90 yards of gridiron you'll ever see. Bronco Stadium is the home of a team that loves the color blue. People criticized how ugly it is to have blue turf to represent your football field. The boys wear blue and orange. It's tough trying to take on Boise State because you sometimes can't diffrentiate between the blue field and the blue players. The Broncos are perhaps the most famous non-BCS school. They shown Oklahoma what they were made of in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Zared Jabransky(?) didn't make the Houston Texans, but he is part of the practice squad. And Ian Johnson? That lovable chap that proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend at that game? He's still playing. All in all, this should be a fun game between two of the best non-BCS conferences.

It's time to believe in blue... Boise State style! Here's what you got if you love the color blue: the game was taken place under beautifully blue skies as the sun sets on the [COLOR"Blue"]blue[/COLOR] field with fans wearing Boise State blue and orange. If that's not a love of blue, I don't know what is. Southern Miss got the blues after Boise State blew them out. It will be a sad trip back to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. (38-16; BOISE STATE)

SIDE NOTE
There was one segment that focused on a 100-yard dash on the blue turf. The loser had to have his hair cut. The Boise State player had dreadlocks and now... those dreads are gone. As I saw the 13-second dash to the other end zone, I was thinking of a classic NES game the way it looked. No... not "Track and Field." Ever played the NES game called... "World Class Track Meet?" You know, the one where you had to stomp down on this specialized pad to run? Thought about that old game for some reason when I saw this dash.

Memphis Isn't in Graceland Anymore
* Memphis {Tigers} at Arkansas State {Indians}
Welcome to the city of Jonesboro, AR. We have one of the best non-BCS conferences going up against one of the worst non-BCS conferences. Both teams are 1-2 as Memphis and Arkansas State are ready to set it off. Memphis could have beaten Arkansas State easily. But now, this team is completely off the map as the Arkansas State Indians got themselves a win. Who will Memphis lose to next? Duke? (35-31; ARKANSAS STATE) *** disappointing loss ***

--- Division 1: Championship Subdivision Scores ---
Black college football action is tonight. We got four of them ready to compete under the lights. Four teams, two games. So let's do this!

Fowl Play in the Volunteer State
* Tennessee Tech {Golden Eagles} at Tennessee-Martin [Skyhawks} --- RIVALRY GAME ---
(13-10; Tennessee Tech}

North Carolina A&T Ready to Play Football After Getting into a Brawl This Past Saturday
* Norfolk State {Spartans} at North Carolina A&T {Aggies}
(50-20; Norfolk State)

SIDE NOTE
Both Tennessee-Martin and North Carolina A&T are winless this season, sharing 0-5 records.

--- Division 2 Scores ---

12 - California University of Pennsylvania
13 - Midwestern State
14 - Catawba
15 - Tarleton State
16 - South Dakota
17 - Abeline Christian

19 - Pittsburg State
20 - West Chester
21 - Indiana University of Pennsylvania
22 - Sheperd
23 - Mars Hill
24 - Missouri Western
25 - Tuskegee

Both Teams are 4-0... But One Must Fall
* #23 Mars Hill {Lions} at #14 Catawba {Indians}
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Salisbury, North Carolina as one university is celebrating over 100 years of college football at Catawba College. Their opponents may not be from the Red Planet as the college's name suggests, but Mars Hill College is ready to upset Catawba. This is a match in the South Atlantic Conference and ONLY seen on College Sports Television. Let's meet Mars Hill. Mars Hill College can be found in the city of Mars Hill, North Carolina. Mars Hill is about 20 miles north of Asheville. Mars Hill is just over 10 miles south of the Tennessee state border. The blue and gold Lions have themselves a rivalry with Catawba. So let's see if these 4-0 cats are ready to take down some big dogs. Those big dogs are another bunch of 4-0 boys- Catawba. Catawba College is the home team. Salisbury, North Carolina is pretty darn close to NASCAR country. Here's the deal. Salisbury is about 35 miles northeast of the greater metropolitan area of Charlotte. You take a ride up Interstate 85, and you'll find two familiar cities in North Carolina as you head up to Salisbury. About 20 miles northeast of Charlotte is Concord- home of the Charlotte/Lowe's Motor Speedway. Way less than 10 miles is the city of Kannapolis- Earnhardt Nation.. Then by the faith of God, you'll find Salisbury. The Indians of Catawba College are celebrating 100 years of college football there. Nothing would mean more to their long history of Catwba football than to make Mars Hill history. So let's see who beats who. It's the boys close by NASCAR country. Smooth sailing. (45-21; #15 CATAWBA)

An Upset May be Possible in this Gulf South Conference Match
* Southern Arkansas {Muleriders} at #8 Delta State {Statesmen}
The Statesmen of Delta State didn't need the field goal kicker as they had no problem finding the end zone. All the Muleriders could do was kick a field goal to avoid getting blanked. (28-3; #8 DELTA STATE)

(no Division 3 games played)

For Friday night, we'll see how real South Florida is when West Virginia comes to Tampa. I'll have those results as well as action from all four divisions of NCAA football in my next report. Reply, comment, compliment... talk to a brother!

This is the final weekend of September 2007. Let's bid this weekend farewell as we prepare for more college football action. It won't be too long until you have to change your calendar from September to October. My pick for GAME OF THE WEEK is this match tonight in Tampa. So without much stalling, let's get to work!

--- Division 1: Bowl Subdivision Scores ---
Only one game was played in FBS. And here she is:

South Florida's Biggest Test Yet...
* #5 West Virginia {Mountaineers} at #18 South Florida {Bulls} (GAME OF THE WEEK)
The University of South Florida has come a long way in their sports programs. The best of their programs is football. People are saying that South Florida isn't getting enough love. Maybe a game like this will convince the sports media that South Florida's for real. You can NEVER be real if you don't play teams in the Top 5. So South Florida invited West Virginia to soak in the Florida lifestyle. And after West Virginia were done, it was time for business. Raymond James Stadium is home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL, but also the home of South Florida football. The Bulls have had West Virginia's number last season and aim to make them lose again. West Virginia ain't havin' that, you dig? But the Mountaineers from Morgantown can still take down the boys from Tampa. It's college football action in Southern Florida! Only thing is... we're talking about the southern Florida city facing the GULF coast, not the Atlantic coast (Miami). So let's get it. Three notable people were at the game- Dick Vitale and his wife, as well as Schwab(?) ("Stump the Schwab"). Dickie V somewhat promoted the high school football talent in the Tampa area and even Saratoga. South Florida never trailed, and West Virginia never tied. Two field goals and a late touchdown was not enough to avert the upset. South Florida is 4-0! Can you believe it? (21-13; #18 SOUTH FLORIDA) *** upset! ***

South Florida's really came along in the 11 or so years of their football team. They've gone from the virtual dumps to being a potent team. So who are these boys? Let's profile them.

John's Profile School: The University of South Florida (thanks: Wikipedia)
The University of South Florida can be found in the city of Tampa, FL. It was established in 1956. This school has come along quite well in over 11 years of existance. USoFl football began in 1997 and has seen only one head coach calling the shots- Jim Leavitt. The first sign of success in FBS is to make a Bowl Game. Perhaps well on their way to going to a Bowl Game this year, their bowl run began in 2005 when they lost 14-0 to North Carolina State (back when NCSU weren't pathetic jokes). They made up for their Bowl Game loss in 2006 as they took down East Carolina. They sport green and gold. I mentioned their football has been great. That's because they are really the only team to be excited about since thier men's basketball program is a joke. Tonight's win over West Virginia marks their first victory over an AP Top 5 school in team history. South Florida's playing in the Big East. So if they win the Big East, they will have a chance to play in a BCS Bowl. Their all-time record is 72-43 counting this game. How far can South Florida go? You may never know once these Bulls come up running.

(no FCS games played)

--- Division 2 Scores ---
Alright. They chose Division 2. Let's see how these D2 boys did tonight.

* Assumption at Bentley (22-13; BENTLEY)
* Merrimack at Southern Conecticut (34-20; Merrimack)

--- Division 3 Scores ---

* #16 Montclair State at The College of New Jersey (19-9; THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY) *** upset! ***

Four games, two upsets. Will there be any significant upsets this Saturday? Find out in my Saturday post!

Allow me to introduce you to my sources for my scores:

http://www.ncaasports.com/football/mens/scoreboard (FBS Scores)
http://www.ncaasports.com/football/mens/scoreboard/1AA (FCS Scores)
http://www.d2football.com/scores/ (Division 2)
http://www.d3football.com/schedule.html (Division 3)

So any scores that I may have not mentioned, you can see if your favorite team won, or if your least favorite team lost.

Welcome one and all to Saturday. It's the final Saturday of September as it's time for some boys to lace 'em up, strap 'em up, buckle 'em up, and beat 'em up. It's also the time of MLB playoff races. I couldn't really care less about baseball since my Astros had a terrible season. This is especially since we have a bunch of boys ready to hammer the other team as best as possible. So let's get this thing started. You ready players? Then let's get it on!

SATURDAY SYNOPSIS: Week 5
It was a judgmental week for a number of teams in all divisions of NCAA football. West Virginia's loss on Friday served as a potential indicator that more teams could be upset. A number of teams in FBS were playing some of the last non-conference matches as conference play is looming. Some teams were already playing conference opponents. A number of FCS games saw the road team win, especially against other FCS opponents. There were some close shaves in Division 2 play including a disappointing loss for a higher-ranked team. Division 3 saw a Top 5 team lose by only a field goal.

--- Division 1: Bowl Subdivision Scores ---
We begin out west and branch outward. So let's begin with a pack of games where I show some California Love. <3 I will also allow making just some brief reports on scores rather than just who won the game.

--- California Love Pack ---
Let me pamper you boys and girls who love California. So let's deal out some love. Some reports will only be a quick comment or just the score and who won.

The Berkeley Boys Head Further North
* #6 California {Golden Bears} at #11 Oregon {Ducks}
ESPN College Gameday was at the University of Oregon for this match. Despite a controversial finish, the Golden Bears of California just survived their trip to Eugene as the Ducks couldn't put away California. (31-24; #6 California)

Seattle Smells an Upset
* USCal {Trojans} at Washington {Huskies}
It's Kylehnat country, USA. He's probably reading hoping to report good news. I am nothing more but a messenger. Will I be recording happy news or sad tidings? Let's read on. Washington kept the game very close, but Southern California was just too good. (27-24; #1 Southern California)

Could California-Davis Upset Another FBS Northern California Team?
California-Davis at San Jose State (34-14; SAN JOSE STATE)

Cupcake San Diego State Tries to Upset a Reborn Cincinatti
* Cincinatti at San Diego State (52-23; #24 Cincinatti)

Stanford Tries to Reel in a Big Fish from a State Nowhere Near Water
* #23 Arizona State at Stanford (41-3; #23 Arizona State)

This Ain't No Dog Show!
* Louisiana Tech {Bulldogs} at Fresno State {Bulldogs}
Screw the Westminster(?) Dog Show. We have a dog show of college football. We ain't got no prissy poodles or any weiner dogs strutting out for show. I'm not a dog lover. I never wanted one. I always wanted a cat since I was a little boy. I could probably not maintain one because of my junky room and all kinds of stuff around the place. I do know one thing- they can play football for sure. Both schools share the nickname of "Bulldogs." So will it be the team from Rustic, LA... or the boys from Fresno, CA? Louisiana Tech is a pretty good football school. The team that's gotten the most recent attention is their women's basketball team. LT's ready to go. Fresno State would love to crush Louisiana Tech all day long. They know about crushing like how you can learn how to make wine at Fresno State University. (17-6; FRESNO STATE)

EXTRA: More Information on Fresno State's Winery
Are you a college student and are interested in making wine? Ever noticed the green "V" on the back of Fresno State's helmets? Fresno State University has the only commercial winery on a university campus in the United States. Northern California is known for their wine. They have double-digit numbers of awards. It seems like a great opportunity to learn more about making wine. The Bulldogs of Fresno State wear the "V" on their helmets to represent Central Valley in the area. Can you imagine what you would call your own personal wine? What about what flavor it is? Fresno State University's winery could provide infinite opportunities for those looking to create their own wine. I'm not even going to worry about wine until I marry some girl. Then, I may just have some white wine or something.

You can visit this website: < http://www.fresnostatewinery.com/ > for more information on Fresno State University's winery.

-end "Califorina Love Pack"

Kentucky Can Go 5-0 With a Win Over Florida Atlantic
I figured that I'd hang out with FoolKiller for a bit. His boys are 4-0 with wins over Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, (especially) Louisville, and a hard-fought win at Arkansas. Now Lexington's favorite felines are ready to pounce again. The Kentucky Wildcats, behind Andre' Woodson got it done as the Florida Atlantic Owls couldn't do much of anything to knock off Kentucky. (-; )

SIDE NOTE
Some sad news for Wildcats fans. Andre' Woodson's amazing streak of completed passes without being picked off ends today at 325 passes. I can't even do 325 consectutive passes in EA Sports' NCAA Football series, let alone in real life. So my congratulations to Radcliffe, KY's baby boy that's keeping Lexington football fans excited. Kentucky's 5-0 and ready for conference play. Woodson can continually up his campaign for Heisman with more great performances in America's toughest conference- the Southeastern Conference. On a lighter note, Andre' Woodson threw over five touchdown passes to down the Owls.

We go from one pack of Wildcats to another.

Texas Will Stumble at Some Point, is Kansas State the Team That Initiates the Stumble?
* Kansas State at #7 Texas
Did someone just say overrated? At least people from Manhattan, KS are screaming that as they stunned the boys from Austin, Texas. The Longhorns had one of their worst performances of the season as the Kansas State Wildcats made this an easy win. Texas NEVER led. (41-21; Kansas State) *** disappointing loss and upset ***

The Seminoles Want No Part in Losing to a Resurgent Alabama Program
* #22 Alabama at Florida State
Nick Saban's boys could beat Arkansas, but the Crimson Tide couldn't wash away the Seminoles of Florida State (21-14; FLORIDA STATE) *** upset! ***

The Boys from Champaign May Celebrate with Champagne if They Beat Penn State
* #?? Penn State {Nittany Lions} at Illinois {Fighting Illini}
Illinois got her done against Penn State. Illinois' looking great as of right now. (27-20; ILLINOIS) *** upset! ***

Atlanta Wants to See Clemson Get Shut Down
#13 Clemson at Georgia Tech
"Welcome to Atlanta where all the players play... and they ride on them things like ev-er-y day." The ATL in the house as Hotlanta's ready for some college football. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ended Clemson's winning streak as the Tigers lose by 10. (13-3; GEORGIA TECH) *** upset! ***

Auburn Seems to Have Florida's Number...
* Auburn {Tigers} at Florda {Gators}
Last year, Auburn had already beaten Florida before the final whistle... until Florida had a punt(?) blocked that led to further ownage of Florida when the game was at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This year, it's The Swamp. It was a close game as the Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers were deadlocked at 17. The drama began with 3 seconds left in the game as Auburn tried to kick a 40+ yard field goal in a favorable center position. He landed the field goal... but it didn't count because Florida called a timeout way before the kick was off. So Auburn had to kick it again. And as Florida's timeout was their final, Auburn kicked the ball... and won the game for his team. Gotta love it when your Big Man on Campus is your field goal kicker! (20-17; Auburn) *** upset and big win ***

* #3 Oklahoma {Sooners} at Colorado {Buffaloes}
A Buffaloes' field goal shattered Oklahoma's hearts. The Sooners saw their wonderful season take an ugly turn at beautiful Folsom Field. (27-24; COLORADO) *** upset! ***

Maryland Wants to Be Merry-Land for a Day
* Maryland {Terrapins} at #10 Rutgers
(34-24; Maryland) *** upset! ***

The Fighting Irish Keep Losing! Maybe Their Breakthrough Could Come in West Lafayette
* Notre Dame {Fighting Irish} at Purdue {Boilermakers}
All aboard the choo-choo train! It's Purdue riding on the train tracks and freight training anyone who dares come their way. Notre Dame probably wished Brady Quinn stayed in school and not join the NFL's Cleveland Browns. The school is 0-4 heading into West Lafayette. This is one of the most storied programs in college football. Now, Notre Dame is a complete joke. Sorry to tick off Notre Dame fans, but this team is having a terrible season. And if they don't get it together and at least make the Bowl Season (meaning winning all of their remaining games after this one), they'll be this year's 2006 Colorado Buffaloes. Notre Dame can't buy a win. Can't catch a break. The Fighting Irish are having the unluckiest season of their long history. (-; PURDUE)

OFF-TOPIC
I gave Notre Dame some love this season. However, they are disappointments compared to my preview of the Fighting Irish.

South Carolina Better Make Ready for Impact!
* Mississippi State {Bulldogs} at South Carolina {Gamecocks}
Time to holler at TwinTurbos94 and talk about his South Carolina boys. The black and garnet are ready to get themselves another SEC win like when they upset Georgia. (38-21; SOUTH CAROLINA)

From TwinTurbos94 to Joey D. Time to talk about Big Blue. The Ann Arbor boys are going to infuriate the Chicago area's Big Ten team ever since Northwestern lost to Duke at home. The Wolverines of Michigan topped the Northwestern Wildcats. The Wolverines keep on winning while Northwestern's lost two successive. (28-16; Michigan)

DAMN!
* Northwestern State {Demons} at Texas Tech {Red Raiders}
Don't feel sorry if you can't pronounce or spell Natchitoches. That is the Louisiana city where Northwestern State University is located. The boys from Lubbock, TX are going to make quite an impact. In the end, the Red Raiders of Texas Tech exorcized the Demons of Northwestern State. (75-7; TEXAS TECH) *** ownage ***

H-Town Ready to Put Down ECU
* East Carolina at Houston
The Houston Cougars go to 2-2 by losing to the now 2-3 Pirates. (37-35; East Carolina)

The Battle for Southeastern Louisiana
* #2 LSU {Tigers} at Tulane {Green Wave}
One school was the pride of Louisiana when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast states. The other school was hit hard from the hurricanes, yet soldiered on with an inspired effort in college sports. Now, the two teams are meeting up to take care of some business. Let's meet Tulane first. Tulane University is one of only two Division 1 NCAA schools in New Orleans. Tulane University is closer to water than their non-football counterparts at the University of New Orleans. Tulane University is all ready to make plenty of noise. The Green Wave has some beef with the purple and gold of their opponents. Let's meet the purple and gold crew right now. What's the premiere team in Louisiana? LSU. Who's the best SEC team? Many people will say LSU and likely argue they are better than those crimson and gold boys from Los Angeles. Louisiana State University has won National Championships in a great number of sports. You just don't mess with LSU or the Tigers that play to uphold the school's pride. Tulane tried to defend their house, but LSU had no problem beating Tulane. (34-9; #2 Louisiana State)

My final full score I'll report on is Louisville's visit to Raleigh, North Carolina.

Other FBS Scores...
* UNLV {Rebels} at Nevada {Wolfpack} --- RIVALRY GAME: Battle for the Fremont Cannon --- (27-20; NEVADA)
* UTEP {Miners} at SMU {Mustangs} (48-45, OT; Texas-El Paso)

--- John's Winners and Losers ---
The week's biggest winners and most stellar wins. Disappointing losses by teams that could easily cream the other team. Taking down a highly-ranked opponent. Disintegrate your opponent to smithereens. You do these things, you just might see your school posted in my Winners and Losers section. Who made the list this week? Read on.

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK
Auburn's Field Goal Kicker Beats Florida Twice
- Imagine a play that counted if no one called a timeout. Imagine having to execute the same play again. Auburn's guts to finish the fight (to use HALO 3 speak) stunned The Swamp. I thought South Florida's win over West Virginia was big, but it wasn't the only stunner in the Sunshine State. Auburn's victory is full of character and really turns around this lackluster season they are having.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK
Kansas State Made Texas Look Overrated
- How do you describe this? Of all the upsets, this was the biggest blowout. Granted Kansas State is a talented unit, this is a sad loss. The way Texas has played this season hasn't been very good, and they were due to stumble at one point. Many people feel Oklahoma would end Texas' winning ways, but Kansas State did all the work so nobody else had to. I hate giving a negative honor to a school in my home state. This is not to mention Texas being the Lone Star State's premier university. I have no favorites. If you lose bad, you lose bad. About 3 certain kick returns ended up in touchdowns as Texas couldn't overtake Kansas State all game long. And they are the 7th-ranked team in the nation. Shame.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any)
South Florida is For Real... Just Ask #5 West Virginia
- First of all, can the "if any" part. You can pretty much take a pick at which upset I'll select. This one is tough to call with so many upsets taking place in all divisions of NCAA football. The upset I've chosen has to be South Florida's upset of West Virginia. West Virginia was bound for National Championship implications when South Florida stomped on them like Mario squashing Goombas. South Florida's come a long way as this is their 11th season of football.

OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK
Southeast Baptist Still Picking Up Missing Teeth After an 86-13 Beating by #8 Northwest Missouri State
- Southeast Baptist absolutely hammered Southeast Baptist. Scoring 86 points is something like 9 touchdowns and two safeties. So...

Southeast Baptist = OWNED by Northwest Missouri State 86-13!

A Confessional on Playing the Piano
I was at a Sam's Club store around Webster, TX. I find it quite interesting that there were some children as well as some secondary school folk who could play the piano quite well. The personal songs that I create are usually in my memory. I just have to find the right keys to hit to make my music come alive. It wasn't until I found these electronic grand pianos made by Yamaha and Suzuki that I began to feel a certain groove to my music. You know, it's like you have a song in your mind, but you never can make your song come alive until you can hit the correct keys in the sort of way you want them played. Some of the kids I heard on the Suzuki piano (I was on the Yamaha one until no one was playing the Suzuki piano) played some wonderful music. It's really a testament to these children who are greatly skilled in the arts. I've enjoyed drawing as well as playing a piano since childhood. The Yamaha piano was similar to this one: < http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA...0,,CNTID%253D2750%2526CTID%253D205900,00.html >. The one I played on was of a silver color. The Suzuji piano is the ST-7. Check out this beautiful piano: < http://www.suzukipianos.com/st-7/ >. The one I played on was in black.

Thank you for reading. Next week's thread will be called "Full Throttle" in honor of the Petit Le Mans. I will still get to watch Thursday and Friday action. Only thing is, I may watch the Petit Le Mans... or as much as possible since I'm expected to join my parents to watch the Wings Over Houston Air Show. So the amount of games I'll report on may be relatively low because I don't want to waste a lot of time trying to cover as many games as possible in such little time. I'll also touch up a bit on Formula SAE for schools around America and even among non-American nations. Consider this my gift to you for being car lovers as well as college football fans. My favorite sport before any other is motorsports. I'll still hold you down with college football. Looks like Division 2 action will start Wednesday, so I'll be responsible for those games and any others that may surface for the upcoming week. Thank you for reading. Bye bye!

I'm happy when anything Kansas wins.

BUT

Division I-AA:

NDSU is 4-0! Yeah! I think the Bison are going to have a very good year, by the way things are starting.

North Dakota State surprises me in men's basketball. They'll be one hell of a team in FCS. I think the Dakotas will be relevant when North Dakota and South Dakota play in FCS in a few years. Next week's thread is coming up shortly!

The big deal about this Florida Atlantic game isn't that they were a team we needed to fear or even hoped would improve our rankings. The coach of Floriad Atlantic is former UK player and Louisville head coach Howard Schnellenberger. He is a good coach that takes on a lot of rebuilding style jobs. He did well with Louisville as when he was there he set up the plans to build a new stadium and move them to the Big East conference. He tries to schedule Florida Atlantic with Louisville and Kentucky to draw attention to the team. The game was tape-delayed so I only caught some of it, but Kentucky played well from what I saw.

And do I hear a rankings increase? Yep, number 8. How about that?

I reported that ranking increase in my Week 6 thread. Your Wildcats are doing quite well. The better they do, the more people will appreciate Kentucky for their football rather than just care about men's basketball at Kentucky. They'll need to keep up the good work and keep hammering their opposition. Kentucky is really evolving under the leadership of Andre' Woodson. He HAS to be their field general to make it big this season.
