please PD improve the A-spec more and give me a reason to buy the rally cars! we love rally dont take it away from the game

Rally? Lol. GT4 had awesome rally events as far as I remember. GT5 is severely lacking in that department.

The reason I don't fiddle with a spec events is because its way too easy. Typically I'll detune a car to make it a challenge. Hopefully GT6 has more to offer.

PS. I hope they didn't decide over at PD to do a new system for the seasonal events in 2012 with more focus on plain A-spec and B-spec events instead of the special events they put there last year like american musle cars, british lightweight or the supercar championship etcetera.

I prefered last year's formula.

So I just got my a ps3 and FINALLY got gt5...Been all night, I go to check my percentage and its at 20%!! I cant believe this. Extremely dissapointed with the product. Obviously its a great game but come onnn, its gran turismo...
I haven't been on the board for years but I've been reading up on 5 and wow all these years of waiting for a rehashing of the same old stuff huh? I really thought on the ps3 it would be over the top and have more cars and more events. I guess Im to old school, not much of an online gamer. It looks like Ill be at 100% in a few months, gt 3 and 4 took me a good year of a fun playing.
That being said I'm looking forward to this journey!! haha. what a great franchise!
We can hate it but we love it

I think there are some strange difficulty curves in the Aspec mode.

I mean, some of the special events really did bring some interesting tests, which are challenging, and require you to be good at the game. Higher difficulty, more interesting, specialised, and varied events. Each event section almost had its own little "story" to it. It was only slight, but it does give that extra feeling of progression and career feeling. But these events are quite specific, not the same as the standard A spec race events section, which I agree, are fairly monotonous.

I think it is mainly a problem with the AI. Because as I said, when the game wants to make it difficult for you (think of the X Vettel challenge, or some of the Grand Tour events) it can, but those events are when the AI are not the reason they are difficult. So with a better AI system, when you go to the A Spec races, they are tougher to beat, can match your car in terms of performance, and then it would actually make the racing more interesting, and more of a challenge.

As other people have mentioned as well, so many features just haven't been utilized, like the weather and time systems that are there. Awesome features that trump alot of other sim racing game...and they just aren't present on a regular basis. Such wasted opportunity.

Whilst I do race online regularly, and do enjoy the seasonal events (albeit they are usually pretty easy/chase the rabbit) I am hoping the 'Career' mode is totally redone in GT6.

Another thread ranting about how poor the A-Spec mode is. Can't say this is original, bu it is very well deserved lol. The A-Spec was terrible!! Since I tried online oer two years ago, I haven't touched A-Spec one bit. Since migrating to online, I think I can fairly say that A-Spec will never be my priority again, as online simply offers more (In my opinion!). That said, I fully appreciate that online isn't for everyone, and that the A-Spec mode needs some serious loving in order to make it anywhere close to exciting again.

As a few people mentioned, the combination of the leveling system combined with the specialized races in A-Spec lead to a very very linear progression through A-Spec....which, for me, is the exact opposite of why I liked A-Spec in the past. Before, a player could choose their favorite car and progress through the "lower level" races in their own style, and in their own order. That concept is completely gone in GT5.

The AI is pathetic...nothing new here.

After reading through this thread, I'm surprised I didn't see the concept of an "Event Creator" mentioned....sorry if it was mentioned, I must've missed it.

I really think an event creator would solve a lot of these A-Spec issues. A good event creator would do wonders for this game! But, like all things, it would need to be done properly to realize its full potential (and we all know that the execution of a good idea is really a toss-up when it comes to PD). The more options and control given to the player, the better! When creating an event, players should be able to choose:
- the track (obvious!)
-number of laps
-type of start (standing, rolling, handicap, etc)
-number of opponents
-type of opponents (ie which cars they drive)
-AI difficulty
-tire wear and fuel consumption (on/off)
-damage (on/off)

And we should be able to create a series or league:
-number of rounds in a season
-which tracks, and the order they are raced in
-number of laps for each specific race (as opposed to making all races the same number of laps)
-how many points are awarded for each finishing position

I'm sure theirs a bunch of stuff I've missed, but you get the point. And just like we can share cars and tracks with friends online, you should be able to share a created event with friends online.

One last point, then I'm done. Credits!!! Oh credits, how you drive me crazy!!! Perhaps it's just me, but if I had my way, credits would only be used in A-Spec mode (and B-Spec, I guess). Basically, my idea is that after you complete A-Spec for the first time, you have the option to turn credits OFF!

As someone who has a limited number of hours to play GT, I want to spend those hours driving online with friends, not grinding credits to buy some new car or part. Although the current credit system is a complete joke thanks to the seasonal events, I find a credit system in general (and this applies to any game) has the tendency to make the game feel like a job.

Upon completion of A-Spec, I would like to see credits turned off, as well as have the ability to access any and all cars in the game. No more credit grinding, no more cycling the UCD. I'm sorry, but after a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is come home and grind credits, cycle the UCD, or search the GTP marketplace for the car I want to drive. When I get home after work, all I want to do is drive!!

It has been noted, here is one example, I think I read it a couple times though 👍

If everyone had asked for an event editor, then we would have been able to create as many new races as we wanted and with whatever cars we chose. ...

but no, most of the kids in this forum where asking for silly unimportant stuff, like changing the wheels and all that rubbish.

poe64 with the post of the year. (even if it was last year haha)

Good rehash by twitcher, as well. Event Creator. Event Creator. Event Creator. :)

>>> You should have to complete a license test to race, just like the old licensing system in previous GT-games. The license system in GT5 is nearly pointless. <<<

500% agree with this statement.

They had to axe that because it put off drivers that weren't as good. The game is marketed as a driving simulator AND a game and many will see taking tests to progress in a video game as monotonous.
Right now PD is trying to keep the game challenging for pros and accessible to others but it seems like a step forward in one direction is a step back in the other.

Yeah A-Spec in GT5 totally ended me being a fan of the GT series. I played them all to death too, and liked every single one until GT5-P and GT5. I put in a LOT of time in GT5, finished all but the 24 hour endurance races and have all the cars. I got my money's worth and everything, I just lost all respect for PD and Kaz and will not be buying GT6 unless the A-Spec and AI is 100x better than it was in GT5.

Just about everything wrong with A-Spec as it stands right now boils down to the AI...

Let's face it, if the AI were challenging, interesting and varied, what little we have right now would still be endlessly playable. The AI should be PD's #1 priority. The AI should be PD's ONLY priority, until they have it nailed..!

The AI needs to be adaptive. Of course you are going to alienate a generation of bedroom kiddie players (and let's not forget, those are what keep PD in business!) if you make them alien fast out of the box, but there's no reason why you shouldn't have your practice laps tracked over the long run, then the AI scaled to your average level of performance.

You watch Rolex, ALMS, WEC, almost any high level racing these days, these guys are racing 24 hours and finishing within seconds, a few minutes tops, at the checkered flag. That's what we want. AI that pushes us, no matter our skill level, all the way round the track. The whole race.

And it can be done... Sure, you might have to endure a little bit of rubber banding (as long as done out of sight, what do we care?), but the thrill of being chased, or having to push hard to stay up is what racers want. It demeans us, and it demeans GT5, to have to nerf your car horribly just to give the AI a chance! It makes a mockery of racing, and makes the game painfully obvious that it is just that... A game. And a not very good one, at that.

I think, if adaptive lap times are adopted, your difficulty level would then be, how much contact with them and the walls is the game willing to tolerate? Here is where novices to experts could determine how forgiving they want the game to be. The AI's pace shouldn't be a choice.

Mind you, of course, we have been howling at the moon about PD's poor AI for generations of the game. Maybe PD can pull a rabbit out their hat for GT6..? I doubt anyone is betting on it, though, sadly.

But without vastly improved AI, nothing else is going to make A-Spec better. All the manufacturer races in the world won't make up for how painfully slow, stupid and unresponsive the AI are. Most other racing games can handle a standing start and you not leave them behind after the first turn. Shift2, for all it's faults, could keep an AI driver in sight after 30 laps of Road America, pushing like crazy! It can be done... will PD do it?

The game will forever be changed for the better if they could...

Yeah I agree with that about the ai. The rabbit ai needs to die. They even scrapped the standing starts because they gave up on ai and reverted to chase the rabbit after they couldn't figure out how to make anything else work. They need to call codemasters up and ask them how to do it right. F1 2010, 11, and 12 have the best ai I have ever raced against in a race sim/ game. Dirt 3 on the circuit races actually has very fun to race against ai too. I know they are not perfect and someone could easily list bad things about it, but it is some of the best when it comes to door to door (wheel to wheel) racing.
I mean we are in the stone ages when it comes to race sim ai. It all is pretty bad compare to where it could be in 2013. Maybe the new breed of consoles will help that situation with the extra memory and cpu cycles the devs will have at their disposal.

If the game had preferences that would allow users to configure the game with different options similar to the statements in the poll that might be a way to keep everyone happy from beginner to hardcore.

This has to be the greatest poll in the history of GTPlanet. :D

Its funny how races like the like the wind event is so easy, but go back and do the 70s historic racing car one, in the only car you can afford, (512BB) and hold off those toyota 7's at deep forest.

Frack

IMO the best A-Spec event are the tuned races. Those are the only races I continued to enter before I went online. It wasn't so much chase the rabbit. It became "where does that YELLOWBIRD and S2000 start".

PD also missed out on adding events using the new DLC tracks.

Just like he Vettel and Loeb challenges, PD should have made the AI as quick in all the events. When entering the clubman stages, all the AI cars should be on SS tyres or what ever tyres the player chooses so there can be some competition.

Also on the tuned one the orange tt can give trouble too.

I recently redid the 4 hour nur enduro in my tuned Hipermax Evo. won by 5 seconds. close as man

True about that TT.

It kills me about that 4hr. Updates to GT and we get no weather change during certain events. I'm not sure how PD code it to change weather but, a random blue sky to overcast(no rain) would help pass the time. Especially if they made those races 16 cars.

Or dropped the option z from the line up.

and the xjr9 from the lm race events

OH BOY! How many times did I exit and restart so I could drop that XJR.

That Z is so useless for the AI. What, 800hp and it can't keep up with the pack? Yes, please drop it from the line up.

Still think the GT4 'A-Spec' points system should have been implemented in GT5. Sure you didn't have to go for max points if you didn't want to, it did make a lot of the A-Spec events very hard however and very good fun at the same time. Think when I finished I was about 1,000 points short of max, some of those damned 1 make races (f'in Hyundai) were complete bitches. :(

Wasnt there one that was like, impossible, to get full points to come up?

There were several, Citroen 2CV event was one I remember, one of the Hyundia races too. Problem is it couldn't simply be patched like it could easily be today. :nervous:

The beauty of SinglePlayer pre-online games.

this is why i didn't buy the revamp of NFSMW.

I've head so much about it being primarily online and in NFS HP i got sick of the 'leaderboards' for my ghost friends.

I look at my garage like a library. Of course you can't read every book in the library, but you have many different books to chose between, many different topics and genres to explore. In the early phase of playing GT5 it was all about collecting the cars. Now that I have most of them, my focus has shifted to exploring the collection, finding the hidden gems.

Regarding events, arcade mode is probably the best offline feature, so if you're tired with GT Life and can't go online, I would recommend Arcade.

I bought a Oullim Motors Spirra just now and painted it GC. Stuck a Supercharger and sports exh. and its great fun on stock tyres.

Very well put actually. 👍

GT5's big claim to fame was the online experience. The game was centered around online for a lot of its content. Trust me I was kind of disappointed when I beat the career mode within a few hours, but I quickly found myself spending hundreds of hours playing around online.
