Computer shuts down suddenly.

Hi, i pressed the button of the computer to start Windows but it didn't start the computer but my monitor is working.So i bet i think i did something wrong to my computer yesterday because i downloaded TCP Optimizer which make the TCP connection (DSL) to be fast in my computer.


1. Is there any reasons why my computer didn't work?

A couple of things first.

CPU = Computer Processing Unit.

That isn't the whole "computer" bit, that is simply the processor that is normally under a heatsink (basically a lump of metal with a fan on top of it) on a motherboard.

When you say you opened your CPU, do you mean that you opened your case of the computer and left the components to the air, or you actually removed the CPU from the motherboard socket?

Sorry cause i was frustrated a while ago. The CPU is the computer processing unit which is right. Well basically what i mean in my post a while ago is that i pressed the button of the cpu so i can start my computer.I didn't open the CPU ( motherboard,heatsink etcc....)

Secondly. Where did you download TCPOptimizer from? It should be from www.SpeedGuide.net if it's from anywhere else, you may have downloaded some form of malware. If thats the case you should try and figure out what one it is.

I downloaded it on that site. but i saw on other forums that some people were complaining about their connection. So i am worried because my desktop doesn't work

Also, the OP, its a computer that you activate, not the CPU. You press the power on button which sends a command to the motherboard to activate the start-up sequence to power all the stuff on the motherboard before using the computer.

So, the power on self test (POST) seemed to have failed? You said that the monitor works. What comes on the monitor when you press the power button?

Does it Blue Screen?

Does it display white text on a black background?

Does it even get to the Windows loading screen?

The POST seemed to have failed.It doesn't have the Blue screen and the windows loading screen and the white text on a black background.
 
You don't mention specifically if this is a laptop or desktop.

If it is a desktop, do you hear any fans starting or do you hear the hard drive spinning up? Possibly the power supply or a portion of it has died?

If it is a laptop you just may hear the HDD? In this case, it is a more difficult diagnosis. I recently had a laptop power button go bad - it stayed pressed so the laptop would power on and then after the power off timeout, would shut down again - it couldn't complete POST either. It just sat there cycling until I unplugged it and pulled the battery.

It was my desktop. I didn't hear anything in it.

You are confusing people by referring to it as the CPU. As mentioned above the CPU is NOT your computer.

That is called the "Tower".

Several things can cause this.
First thing I would like to know is if you are bluescreening or just shutting down(due to bad PSU or overheating CPU).

First thing is first, remove what you installed.

If it still happens do the following

When you turn on the machine press F8 repeatedly until you get the advanced boot menu pop up.

Here you will see a dozen options or so.

Code:

Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with CMD prmopt

VGA mode
Boot logging
Directory Service mode

Last good configuration
Enable Boot logging.
[B]Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure[/B]

Start Windows Normally[/SIZE]

Select "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure".

This will prevent the PC from shutting down if their is a blue screen, if their is a blue screen note down the bug check code which is something like 0x000007B.

Their will also be a file name mentioned, write that down too.

Or you can send me your crash dump files via PM, i can see what is causing the issue for you.

The crash dump files are found in C:\windows\minidump\.

Just send all of them, I will find out which one is which.
 
Thought I jump in as well :D
Try simple first. Connect your PC only with monitor, power cable and keyboard.
After you start the system, does the power LED light up ??
Maybe you could send the model details of your PC to get a better view.
 
Surely guys the first thing to do would be to check the PSU cable. When I ran Windoze I twice had a POST failure and it was caused by a PSU failure. Simply pull out the power cable (or replace it with another power cable) and it should restart as the mobo doesn't gain any power and has to dump the power in the cmos battery.

If that fails, take out the CMOS battery, wait 10 minutes and then place it back in the mobo. Disconnect USB devices, CD/DVD drives, Multi-card readers etc, leaving only the harddrive and monitor plugged in. You should hear the POST beep and see it starting up.

It's simply a hardware failure, not a software failure.

Glad you could get it fixed though.

And to BkS's comment, software can cause the PC to shutdown all of a sudden with no bluescreening.

Seen it first hand on those Acer All-in-One machines.

software will cause the machine to instantly reboot in the event of system failure unless it's disabled in startup and recovery options, seems to be enabled by default
