Logitech RS50 | Settings and tips

I recently purchased an RS50, using it with a PS5 for GT7. It crashed and disconnected a lot, so I got in touch with Logitech support who suggested a replacement wheel base.

After waiting a week for the defective base to be shipped to Poland, and a new one to be sent from the Netherlands, I finally received the replacement.

I set it up yesterday. It worked fine for 30 mins then started disconnecting again. So frustrating.

The issue clearly lies elsewhere, maybe with the hub of the connection to the base, who knows.

Im in touch with Logitech support but the process is slow and unsatisfactory.

I see @LOGI_Rich is pretty active here. Would you be able to help?

Can you better describe what happens when it disconnects? Anything happening in the OLED display of the base? Have you tried running it in PS4 mode? Have you also updated the firmware?

Firmware updated.

Most times (but not all) a message comes up on the screen saying controller disconnected.

Oled display often shows the flashing / rolling dots like at startup then platform selector. Sometimes it just freezes completely though.

Sometimes I can just push the PS button and it restarts, sometimes I have to switch the base off and on again using the switch at the back. Other times it crashes the game completely.

Never had this with my previous G29

You’ve got a ground loop issue somewhere, most likely. This can be tricky to fix but the usual things to try are:

1. If you’re using a sim rig then look into getting that grounded to earth.

2. Replace the HDMI cable between the console and display. The PlayStation and certain TVs in specific environments can definitely have ground loop issues. I’ve previously seen these things fixed by getting a good quality HDMI cable.

Ok thanks, will try the hdmi cable.

I'm using a wheel base, rather than a sim rig, not that it really matters.

How does the ground loop issue lead to the controller disconnecting?

Is there a USB extender cable which is proven to be fine with this base? As I use an extender and have an RS50 being delivered on Monday. Will be bolted to a Trophy sat on hardwood floor if that matters re grounding issues

I just use a 3 meter ZKAPOR cable I bought in Amazon several years ago for my previous T247. As it's USB A to USB C, I also use a dongle USB-C adaptor to connect it to the PS5pro.
No issues whatsoever.
Plenty of other 'Chinese' brands would also work fine, I'm pretty sure Anker or Ugreen would be just as fine, for example.

I have some generic one, can't remember the brand, but I used it with a T300. Never had a single problem in over 1000 hours of use. Very excited to get the RS50 though. Sold all the TM gear as the T598 just didnt have the specs I was looking for. Shame they never brought the T818 to console else I'd have kept all my TM gear.

USB extensions can be problematic. As you can see in this page there are people who find no issues with them, but I’d be a very rich man if I had a pound for every time a problem has been solved by removing a USB extension from the mix 🤣

Thank you @LOGI_Rich

Would an active USB extension cable be better than a passive one?

Alternatively, if I wanted to replace the stock usb cable with a slightly longer one, what spec would I need? E.g. usb 2.0, ferrite cores etc.

Just waiting for my next day off work. Hyped

Is anyone using a Playseat Trophy? Could use some adjustment advice. I'm 5ft 11, 32 inch leg, and I'm trying to get the seat as close to the seating position as the Playseat Challenge, as I much prefer a more GT seating position (never race F1).
Current problem is the wheel just feels a bit too close. When I extend my arm the wheel rim rests half way up my forearm, whereas I prefer it to rest on my wrist. I've tried reclining the seat further, but then the wheel starts to block too much of the screen (65 inch on a typical TV cabinet). To counter that I tried mounting the wheel plate upside down which dropped it to a nice height, but my knees were uncomfortably close to the base plate and whacked it a couple of times. So in the end I extended the seat length to half way up the 'medium' marker, put the base plate back the normal way around and brought the pedals forward. Pedal position feels fine, wheel height feels fine but just a touch too close. My last option is to reverse the base plate direction, does anyone else run it like that?

All firmware updated, will try it out tomorrow once I've got the positioning dialled in.
