Rossi was testing the F2005 yesterday.

hmmm?

Rossi's signed to ride for Yamaha next season in Moto GP, so he won't be around in F1 next year.

So they have Massa to bridge the gap from 2006 until Rossi is ready to race in 2007?

It's a fair possibility. If Schumi feels like retiring after 2006 (which I somehow doubt) Ferrari could have a Rossi/Massa team.

As for Rubens, I think his future is at BAR.

Barrichello had a multi-million dollar contract with Ferrari for 2006 and had chosen to give it up. It does not take a rocket scientist to work out that the only reason for the 33-year-old Brazilian to do that is because he has a better deal somewhere else, either financially or in terms of potential or both. That deal comes from BAR Honda, which has been looking for a top name to either replace, or race alongside, Jenson Button. Honda is not a company that is going to take any risks in this respect and so what was needed was a man who knows F1 and knows how to win races. At the moment that list is still relatively short: Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Ralf Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya and to a lesser extent Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli and Jacques Villeneuve. Strip away the names of those under contract for 2006 and you end up with no names at all, but in F1 things are negotiable if all parties are willing to talk and so Barrichello and Fisichella ended up in the frame.

The question now is what BAR will do with its second car. Takuma Sato has been flailing about a little and needs some solid results to restore the reputation that was once in the same league as Button. Honda says that having a Japanese driver is not essential but, even if they do not admit it, they like to have a local hero to show off to the folks back home. What they really want is a local hero who wins. Sato scored 34 points last year but this year has managed just one but there are signs that he will score more. Button has 19 but a couple of good results would definitely change perceptions.

The fortunate thing for Takuma is that BAR is in no rush to make a decision about the other driver. Button needs to sort out his situation and if Takuma goes on failing to score the team has plenty of other choices.
Can you tell us when you post an article up? I was browsing around here, and I was just like "Hmm, this sounds familiar, wait a minute!".

and all this time you thought I had as much insight :sly:

Sure, I'll post my sources from now on... I feel like I'm back in college

there might be a slight Chance in my opinion that he would go to BMW next year if button does not go to Williams , BMW will be a new team they would really benefit from Barrichello's input to designing the car

Personally, I've always believed Massa to be one of the biggest no ones in F1. A lot of people have faith in him and consider him a good driver, but he rarely delivers. What's his best result? Fifth? With a Ferrari engine... please. It seems he's always got the best chances and he never does anything,... always battling for 8th place.

As for Rubens going to BAR, I think it's quite good, since BAR will eventually become Honda; and like Coulthard for RBR, Barrichello will be a great addition to BAR in terms of experience and expertise. Plus, he's pretty good... would like to see him go against someone instead of just guarding his team mate's position.

I do so agree with you. Massa's only good for 1 thing, that's helping Schumi show to the world how good he is. If they put a decent driver in the 2nd Ferrari then it would be a half way decent team, if they got rid of Schumi then it would be 100% decent team, but still not as good as McLaren or Williams. It will be interesting to see what Rubens will do in a different car, whether he will be able to stand the pace and actually race for a position.

Give massa a chance lol i reckon he could really mature in ferrari's hands, yeah he wont be like schumi, but just you wait, he will be getting podiums in no time, Rubens wernt exactley considered the best in F1 when he joined ferrari, look at him now.

Rubens has a done deal for BAR now, so scrap the BMW idea. Its a good move as well, its the first of the 'top' teams that will probably need a driver for next year, Renault may need one to replace the floundering Fisi but that wont be till the end of the season for the decition to be made.

Barchilleo would go to BAR if jenson goes to williams , I wouldn't think he would wanna go to BAR to be 2nd driver to Button

I think they would be considered on par in driver status in the team

Button is still only 24 or 25, hes as good as Rubens who is 33, who would you give the first driver seat to?

I'd say Button

Remember though this is all if he stays, if he goes, Rubens will be first driver for sure.

i'd give it to rubens because hes been doing it longer. that and jensen doesnt have a very clear head.

they can say they are on par with no #2 driver but theres always going to be factions inside supporting either or as #1.

Button is going to Williams next year, either that or he isn't racing at all. However, I don't think Button is really that stupid.

so BMW will have 2 new drivers for next year , who do you think the will be ?

That shouldn't be the basis for him being the first driver... would you rather have a movie with 40-year-old Christy Canyon, or one with 21-year-old Krystal Steal?

Young stars (especially experienced ones such as Button or Steal in this case) call more attention because they're the ones coming in, and with Alonso, another young gun and Raikkonen, BAR would need a young driver to compete "fairly" with the other rising stars. That could be another reason why (hopefully) Schumi is on his way out. Anyhow, as far as I know, Ferrari is the only team that goes with #1 and #2 drivers... or maybe I'm just biased with McLaren, who always say they don't have a #1, they're both at the same level.

Sorry about the adult analogy, it's just the first thing that popped into my mind.

JV still has a contract for next season you know, I think he'll be driving for them. Probably alongside Nick, or maybe Wurz or de la Rossa.

maybe the older one can handle my meat a bit better from all the expeirence... lol. the younger meat clearly would be the way to go with porn stars but rubens has one races when he was allowed to and i think he could have won more if he wasnt affraid that ferrari would castrate him.

pSI civic, I agree up to a point. I think it would be better for the team to treat both drivers equal, since they're both quite good. On the other hand, Williams seems to be completely opposed at handing JB over to any other team but his own.

On a side note, your signature is missing a good band: (old) Incubus... something from the SCIENCE album, perhaps.

yes sadly willaims is hell bent on being the thorn in the side of f1. frank williams while he isnt about the money should just take what was offered to him to better his team. they sure need it.

i'm not to familar with incubus.

A contract is a contract though.... Maybe we should set up a thread for this discussion by itself

Diego, what compels one to make such a comparison? :dunce:

yeah right.
