Hey man, I'm a little late but a huge congrats anyway. Let us all know how it's going.

Where is the 'north-south' divide exactly???
Spec is always picking at the things i say and how i say and calling me a variety of 'stupid northerner' terms. But i'm south east, how can that be so?? :sly:

I'm second year at Lincoln Uni and i think its great. A great night out and a generally nice place! The only thing that spoils it is them southerners!! :sly:

Officially? It's a line drawn from Lowestoft to Aberystwyth.

In practice, it's a line made by the M4 between the Severn Estuary and the Thames Estuary.

i'd rather be a monkey than a fairy! and i definately don't inbreed! and due to the invention of motor caravans etc, theres as many 'do as you likies' down south as up north!

I know what sunshine is too. I just wouldn't know it if I saw it...

Congratulations Specialized.

What sort of job will you get with a degree like that?

Well i decided on this course becasue of the options i will have afterwards. As part of my masters i have to focus on, in depth, the following subjects and be proficiant in them

• Mobile and Distributed Computing
• Advanced Software Engineering
• Advanced Web Technologies
• Enterprise Networks and Network Services
• Management, Risk and Decision Support
• Advanced Perception for Robotic Systems
• Digital Special Effects
• Server Technologies
• Perception and Control for Robotic Systems
• Media Process and Post-production
• 3D Modelling

This will give me a very well rounded degree and i will also be studying on a specific subject afterwards for a PHD, however, im going to leave that choice untill im 100% on what avenue of buisiness i want to pursue after the degree stage.

The subjects listed are the kind of jobs i can expect to be applying for once i have finished my degree though.

Sounds like you will have a very broad range of useful skills that you will be able to apply to whatever area you choose to Specialize in...

My old housemate did a Ph.D in Computer Science and he has done very well for himself. However, depending on what career path you end up focusing on, a Ph.D can be a long way for a short cut. My cousin is (was) a successful programmer who made alot of cash in setting up mobile phone networks in Eastern European countries and he 'only' did a degree (and 'only' got a 2:2 in that :p ) - he now works as a top secret government bod at GCHQ.

to which Ben will probably be working in:

  • Hot dog stand server
  • Ganja dealer
  • Pen assembler
  • fudge packer

Happy trails!

Sounds like this is a very big time accomplishment, indeed. Congratulations, and good luck! :)👍

Good job Ben!!! 👍

Just remember though, that going back to being a cash-strapped student, you may be tempted to take part in medical experiments for a bit of extra dough! ;) .....Stick to the alcohol testing studies though 👍 ......the video below shows what may happen if you take up caffeine research!

So just an update for everybody. I had a call from the university today and they have now made my acceptance 100% official. Although they had already given me an unconditional offer its always nice to have something physical to say thats its a guarantee!

I must say im pretty damn chuffed! Thanks to everybody for the kind words so far and an extra special thanks to Exelero who has been nothing but a star in helping me out with my uni application!

Rock on!

I shall expect invitations to parties with hefty numbers of half naked teenagers with their mouths open. [/Nighy]

Did I just say that out loud?

Pfft. In a straw poll of southerners, 62.4% of you thought you could walk on it. Woooah-woah.

And they were those pink sparkly curly straws you get in daft cocktails too.
