Connecting 360 to monitor?

Hi all,

I recently got a 24" Dell monitor, and was looking to connect my 360 to it. Now I've heard you can connect it with component or vga, with vga cable apparently giving a higher quality picture. I don't think my 360 (premium pack) came with a vga adapter out of the box - so where can I get the adapter I need to connect my 360 via VGA?

And then there's the problem of sound. I have Logitech Z-640s as my computer speakers at the moment, but I was wondering how I would be able to connect my 360 to these, since I can't see how it could be done since all they have is green yellow black cables plugging into the computer.
If worst comes to worst I guess that I could just plug the 360 into my amp somehow.

So I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix this...thanks guys.
 
You shouldn't need anything, if I recall correctly. The monitor should have composite (The Yellow RCA plug) and S-video ins on the back. Just plug them in and go. For higher quality though, you'll want to get some component cables (Which I know the XBOX 360 has for it, not so sure about VGA or DVI)

As for the audio, you need an RCA to headphone jack adaptor, would look like this...

Should be able to find one for a few bucks (or make one if you are familar with wire cutting, etc)

I have the same monitor as you DtV, and I connect my 360 to it via VGA. The cables are around $30 USD. They connect to the 360 as standard, but on the end have a VGA connector. Also, the 360 will not do 1080p over component, so VGA is the way to go. Forget composite or s-video. :yuck: I don't know why anyone would recommend using those for the 360/ps3. As far as audio goes, unless your speakers have a TOSlink input (optical audio), your only option is to get a stereo Y adater, similar to what Azureman recommended. Knowing Logitech, your speakers probably came with one.

Shrug, some of us don't have anything better than S-Video ITR :P

I suggested those because he likely has one of the two already around (and people like things now ;) ) And I jus dun like VGA anymore, DVI is just nicer ;) VGA is just older than time to me...

Yeah, go with the components for now, for sure. I dun think many games run 1080 yet (do they ITR?) so I don't see it being as big a deal.
 
No, most games are 720p or 1080i, but the 360 won't do 1080 at all over component, so even if the game is 1080i/p, it will only get displayed at 720p if you run component.

The 360 outputs 1080p over component.
 
It won't let you select 1920x1080 in the console settings if you are connected via component.

edit: huh...guess it will do 1080p over component. apparently though the Dell 2407 won't. Also, the picture is very twitchy and over saturated when using component, so I still suggest vga.
 
ITR, does it run full screen that way, or are there black bars at the top and bottom of the screen? The native res on the Dell is 1920 by 1200... so distortion and stuff could arise from the 1080 out put getting stretched to fit. Happens in video games alot.
 
Thanks for the help guys! :D I'll go pick up the VGA cable tomorrow. But do I get an RCA to headphone adapter or stereo Y adapter? :|

Ok I got my 2407WFP-HC hooked up via component (my Z-640s did come with an adapter for the sound, thanks for the help), but when I try and set the display to 1080p it doesn't work, just a black screen that says "Video resolution out of range. Set resolution to 1900x1200 and 60Hz", but 720p works fine...and 1080i works but is a bit twitchy. But yes, very strange. How could I fix it?
