Hey

It seems like everyone on this forum uses a wheel to drive in this game. Personally I not willing to pay more money to play one game...Maybe in the future

I was wondering how you guys with controller drive in the game, with face buttons or the right joy stick.

Also has anyone gotten 1st place in seasonal events with controller? I attempted many times but never gotten close :scared:
maybe i suck or i need a wheel

I briefly tried a wheel with gt4 and just couldn't get used to it. So other than that I use a controller. I mostly use the standard x and square buttons for gas and brake but I have been considering using the triggers from here on.

I've only ever used a controller. I use the x and square for acceleration and braking. I've won a few of the seasonal events but not many. Like you I'd love to get a wheel but can't justify the expense.

Well, i use controller and I golded 3 of 5 in the first 5 events without using Skid Recovery Assistence and I'm not a top driver, nor even close to that

golded all seasonal, and bronzed on the sebastian vettel challenges with a controller, and that is using the godamn D-pad and x + square, so I am fairly decent around a dualshock. But just got my wheel now, so after 4.5 GT's I intend to preserve my thumbs and enter the wheeldriving experience.

My friend uses a controller and golded many of the seasonal events. I just got my wheel. If you can get one i would. It just adds something to the game you don't get with a controller. I put it on the Christmas list. Maybe a B-day gift?

I drive with a controller, in fact I play videogames with a controller since the early 8-bit days, and yes I've been able to gold some of the Seasonal events (not many though) and came in second on a bunch of them...

I tried playing with a wheel some times, but I don't think the feeling is the same, I mean, you look at a screen and sit on a chair, the wheel and pedals are the only parts of a car that feel like a car, but you're still missing all that feedback from your legs, back, neck, eyes and ears (even though you're looking at the race and hearing it through the speakers), my brain is not able to compensate for these lost feelings (even with "force feedback" enabled, mind you)...

I golded the sebastian loeb rally challenge with a controller
I also golded GT rally
And the karting experience
:sly:

I enjoy driving with the d-pad, but I switch to the stick for ovals and those tricky fast sections of the 'Ring and Le Mans.

I have used a wheel before on the PC, but I no longer have it. It was fun and more absorbing, but I still feel I enjoy the game just fine with the DS3... until I get to the Vettel challenge that is.

I recently switched from using X and square to R2 and L2 for the throttle and brake.

I use the triggers for brake/throttle and square/circle for shifting. The right thumbstick is set for freelook. Basically the forza 3 setup.

I haven't run into any problems. I'd probably be faster with a wheel, but I doubt that's what's holding me back. I've gotten gold or silver on the licenses if I try, the seasonal events have been fairly easy, or at least I don't think I missed 1st place due to the controller.

Golded everything that I've tried so far (all lisences, seasonal events, A spec races) with the DS3 on default buttons. I reckon the Vettel challenges will be do able with the controller. I'm not a pro but even the seasonal events were simple really after a few tries. Has the Vettel challenge been done yet with a DS3 (all gold)? If not I want to be the first!!!

X and Square are my gas and brake, Left stick is steering.

Wouldn't have it any other way. :)

But seriously, I've got no room for a wheel, plus it's rather expensive and not worth it for me since GT5 is one of the few racing games I've played in the last few years.

Been using a controller since GT4. Been using L2/R2 for brake/gas since GT5 Prologue. I'm pretty good, golded all GT4 licenses, and in the process of golding all GT5 licenses as well as the challenges. But I think Ill finally give in and buy a wheel for GT5. Like the OP though, I have a hard time justifying spending $300+ for a wheel setup for a game that only costs $60. Add those together and thats a LOT of money to spend on just one game.

Also I don't really have a good living room setup for using a wheel. I have to sit on my couch, there is no way to get a separate game chair in front of the tv. And I really dont want a crazy wheel rig sitting in my living room either being a huge eye-sore when Im not using it. I'll probably get a wheelstand pro but there goes another $200....

One person claims to:

Most seem to feel it's truly impossible. I get the impression people start with confidence and almost always give up after Bronze.

I use the controller and always have been for any racing game. I use R2/L2 for acceleration/braking.

^^^ I second this ^^^ Takes a bit to get used to, but R2 / L2 give you a better ability to go to 1/2 throttle for corners and such.

I use a controller. X and Square buttons for braking and accelerating, no matter how insensitive they are.. :)

I've gotten Gold on a fair few things and I think I do alright with it, however I'll soon find out as I'm currently 150k exp away from 30... :o

I'm using a controller as well (for the time being, at least), not exactly by choise, but whatever.

I, too, am using L2/R2 for throttle and braking and the face buttons for shifting and such.

I use the controller for GT5...

I have Accelerate on R2, Brake on L2. I use Left Stick to steer... and Right Stick to shift up and down the gears.

It works well... and you get control over the acceleration and braking so much more than just with the buttons.

I have Golded the Seasonal Events (although, admittedly, with SRF turned on for some of them).

I have Silvered / Golded all of the Licence Tests (except the Slalom Test in the International B licence... where I can only get Bronze currently).

I think that a wheel would add to the experience... although I would need a stand too... and bet I won't see much change out of £200...

For now I am happy with the DS3... and, especially now that they have made the Seasonal Events "silly easy"... the DS3 is more than up to the job.

X and Square man, myself. I have done better at this GT than previous ones, so good for me I guess.

No interest in a wheel. I like being married and a wheel would likely endanger that.

Left stick for steering , right stick for gas / brake. I'm surprised more of you guys don't use this setup. The day the analog controllers were introduced was a turning point for me , haven't looked back since. Gold on all seasonals so far too.

I've long since lived in the land of wheels(dfp, dfgt) and will not go back unless the physics of a game demand it.(GT3 only). but prior to me getting wheels, i used left analog for steering, up, on the right analog for gas, R2 for brake(allows for analog application of gas and brake simultaneuosly:tup: kind of like ghetto-rigged heel-toe mechanism) R1 shifts up, L1 shifts down, and L2 for handbrake. i imagine those would apply well to GT5, but how the physics would translate is beyond me:yuck: you guys can have it...i'm saving for a g27...:)

Pole Position and a few other arcade games are the only time i've ever used a wheel. X, square and the directional buttons, controller for life.

First I'd like to say. I give total props to anyone who can drive successful and drive fast with a DS3.

I have broken pedals and waiting for my CSP to arrive, so in the mean time I've been grinding some B-Spec and random races with the DS3. I have to say after all these years driving with a wheel, I now suck with a controller. I have no feel for the road, no precision, just awful.

But when I do have to drive with a DS3, I use the right stick as the gas/brake. feel I get more control that way.

DS3 for me too. R2/L2 for accel/brake and X/square for gears. This setup takes a bit to get used to, I found the gears was harder to get my head around. I was in the habit of using the triggers for speed control from GTA4.

Currently I'm at level 27, 53 gold licences, most special events golded. Looking forward to having a crack at the X2010 challenge.

I'd use a wheel if I had room for it at my place. I actually received one for christmas and had to trade it in on an HKS controller. Now I just have to retrain my fingers. The worst part is sharing tunes done with a contoller. Every tune I post gets dumped on because everyone else seems to use a wheel. :irked:

DS3 playa here too :)

Left analog for steering
Right analog for accel/brake (Since GT2)
R2/L2 for gear shifts

DS3 here, too, currently becoming desperate of the Vettel challenge ;) ...other than that, all gold on A-Spec and the Seasonal Events, some Golds on the Special Events (though not the AMG stuff..still have to do that :)).
