1995 Lotec C1000 Mercedes-Benz

A little bizarre but interesting for a 22 year old design. đź‘Ť

Early sketches for compact car Volvo 440, circa late 1980's.

Here is a second Volvo prototype from the same time period, though I could not determine whether it was a design for a 440 or a different vehicle.

To me, that looks like a an early concept model of a 440 or even 460 estate, judging by it's profile.

I think that BMW might have used this as a bit of inspiration.

Edit.

Plates are fake. The real registration number popped up on Google, 84-99-ZK. Registered in 1988 in the Netherlands and it is still here. Probably hidden under a blanket.

Very cool.

Sounds awesome :) Do you have any more information about the car? Does it still exist?

There are no contemporary shots of the car out there, so the latter seems unlikely, but I don't know for a fact that it's gone.

Mercedes SL-X

Many of us know the C-111 series, the flashing orange prototypes powered by rotary engines. But Mercedes had another mid-engined prototype in 1965:

And speaking of C111, the car in the background of the last picture is its fourth itineration:

Powered by a 4.8L TT engine it clocked in at over 400kp/h at NardĂł.

Hurst Rescue System 1

HRS-Gremlin-5.jpg
After the invention of the Jaws of Life by Hurst founder George Hurst, this all-purpose rescue vehicle was created to transport the new machine. The base was a 1973 AMC Gremlin X, outfitted with a stretcher, water tank (for dousing fires), aforementioned Jaws of Life, a first aid kit, and even a winch rated at a 1000 pound capacity; all packed neatly within the little AMC. The one in the picture above was purchased by Murray County Rescue in Georgia, and is the sole survivor of the original 8 RS1s. The RS1 was not just some promotional piece either; this one in particular spent its life racing around the county acting as a fire truck, ambulance, and recovery vehicle. It enjoyed a long service life too, staying in active use continually until 2002, where it was sidelined (perhaps ironically) on the basis of a new mandate concerning crash safety of rescue vehicles. Currently, the RS1 serves mostly as a parade vehicle, though on rare occasions is used as a backup if no other vehicle is available.
