Hello guys, so while watching a Le Mans documentary, I suddenly had the idea that Grand Turismo developers could use for their next version of the game. A very simple idea if you ask me.

Corner Name Feature: a feature within the start button menu (can be turned on/off) as you're in game, that can simply display each corner name as you approach the corner, VERY similar to the Special Events mode when you approach each corner and the corner name is displayed.

This can help virtual drivers get accustomed to each corner within each track, especially Real World Circuits.

Post your thoughts please? 👍

it is actually in GT5 like you sayd, in Mercedes benz drving special events on Nurburgring, while you drive it gives name for every corner! ;) and I liked it very much! would be good to see it in any other track!

👍 that would be a good feature for them to implement. And since It's already applied in the game, it shouldn't be too much of a prob for pd to include in a-spec.

What you can do is add this point to the pre-existing feedback threads.
Might get pd to listen there

Something like that only really works for naming the sections (not individual corners) of the Nordschleife. It wouldn't help much on shorter tracks, or ones without corner names.

It should also be noted that real racing drivers use corner numbers instead of names. There is less confusion with numbers.

Yeah that may be a problem...

I'd only really want it for the Nordschleife anyway. I can't see myself using it anywhere else.

Well not everyone could use it solely for the Nurburgring, as for tracks without names, you could simply use numbers, simple.

Which is why I pose the suggestion you can turn the feature on/off. And mabye you personally wouldn't use it elsewhere, there are plenty of tracks others could use it on. I.E. Suzuka, De La Sarthe, Spa, etc (not everyone is a expert of each track and their corner names ;))

True Story. It's easier to say "Turn 5" instead of "Zippy Dingle Smurfs" or some of the other lame/creative corner names at tracks.

"But Ralf, last year Turn 3 was a left hander... now it is a right hander."

I love tracks with corner names - the antiseptic "Turn 3 left" takes away alot.

Maybe it will just be Car number 4 passes Car number 3, amazing move into turn 7.

I guess some tracks just ooze history and anecdotes (Knickerbrook at Oulton Park Cheshire)

Some tracks earn good names - Hammerhead and Follow-through at Dunsfold are pretty iconic now.

F1 '97 had Brundle do a flaying lap commentry over every track with the basic corner names - quite nice at the time for kids to learn the trra names on track rather than from a birds eye map

I track day my race bike and always use the corner name rather than turn 2 or turn 6 it helps you to become more familiar with the circuit and seems to help me learn it better but may be that's just me .

As good as this idea sounds, I think it should only be available on tracks that have actual corner names. Unless you want all the turns to be named "Turn 1, Turn 2, Turn 3 etc".

I don't see the logic in this. If you can't remember a corner by layout how are you going to remember it by name, especially on the ring with so many of them?

To learn the names of the corners off by heart on the Nurburgring then you must have driven the ring as many times as Sabine Shmitz (if that's how it's spelt).

I think it's a good idea. On reflection, I often find myself remembering bits of tracks and saying "oh, here comes 'that' bit". Subconsciously, I section off bits in my head, these sections have different characteristics and evoke different emotions, knowing their names will add to that I feel.
I doubt it will improve my memory in anyway though, but it shouldn't really be about that.

What exactly does knowing who missed that penalty for Wotsit United in the semi finals of Thingy Cup against FC Booty do for you? Exactly, it's a bit of trivia that adds to your enjoyment of the sport.
