Cote D' Azure Vs. Monaco

Long ago, I remember someone complaining about the fact that they called Monaco "Cote D' Azure" in GT3. I've thought about that quite a bit too, and I can't really come up with any better explanation than this.
There are several subtle differences in track design in GT3's CDA (for short) vs. other games (still looking for video of the track on the net) that have Monaco. I hadn't played an F1 game in quite a while, so I knew the GT3's track was close, but something was off.
The biggest one is at the Port side Chicane. Here is a picture as I have always seen it (rendered on my PC in F1 2001 by EA) Notice the walls missing (I'd say it could be a change that might be recent, but as far back as I can remember it's been without the walls). - note, I'm looking for an actual pic, but I have 5 different F1 video games that back it up (not that they are always correct, but I'm going on a 5-1 vote):)
There are also a few other differences, a lengthening here, a shortening there etc.
Laguna Seca kept it's name, but that track is spot on perfect except for a few ads and other little things. (which can change from year to year)
I wonder if GT3 used CDA because of the difference here.
I'm a racing fan, but not so much as I know what I'm talking about (except for the science involved) so I was hoping that other race fans might have the correct explanation, or perhaps another theory. It bothers me every time I take that turn.
 
The creator added walls in so that u cannot cheat by cutting the chicane!!!

In my f1 game i always cut the chicane, but he didnt want any cheats to be used so he added the walls!

I will find a pic of the real monoco track 4 u Tom!

I thought of that too, but there are quite a few places to cheat in the game that were left intact. You wouldn't be able to cheat in the license and Time Trials anyway though (and that's really where it counts.)

Nice sarcasism, I went to www.formula1.com and went to the races link and selected monaco from the box and clicked pictures and that chicane pic was actually the first one thumbnail i clicked on!!!

I wonder if that's an official pic, or some guy in a hotel window?
I also wonder how much that big white boat costs...:cool: It's sweet. I wonder if I could finance something like that. $300/month for 200,000 months.:D
When they take the track down, I wonder how many people race through those streets, and whip around that section as if the chicane were still there?:D

I would have to say that it would be nearly impossible to get the banners just right like in real life!

None I bet, for 2 reasons.
1. It's the middle of an EU state capital, bet it's gridlocked 24/7.
2. This is Monaco everyone is far to busy being rich/good looking to be pulling that sort of trick.:D

That turn is a right pain, I can never not hit that wall.

It's Black actually, I like BR green, but the car just called out to me saying: Tom, Tom, paint it Black... (makes it look evil:devil:

1. Even in the middle of the night? Can't be that busy if they can shut it down for an extended period altogether for a race.
2. I've noticed here in the US that the Richer and better looking you are, the more prone to doing stupid things like that you become. :D
Here's an example (and a funny story if for no other reason) that not everyone will get.
Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin are speeding through the desert on their way to Vegas doing about 120 waaaay back when. (can't remember the year.) A police officer pulls them over and asks for Sammy's license. (Black man, in the 1960's, doing 120 is a bad thing, a very bad thing, in the US at that time) The policeman asked Sammy if he knew how fast he was traveling. Sammy replied, "I have one good eye, would you rather me watch the road, or the speedometer with it?" The Cop got both their autographs and sent them on their way. (This is a true story)

As for the turn, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I would probably cut it.😈
 
Even though Monaco is one of the hardest tracks in the game, I still love it, and it's my 2nd favorite. That track gives me a thrill when I drive to the limit (especially in F1s).lol.

I love the "noueau chicane" its the chicane in all the pics, in my F1 i brake at the last possible second and nearly hit the wall but still make it round the turns to get my laps!

The later u break the more speed u'll have coming out of the chicane, 4 me anywayz!
 
It might have been me complaining that Monaco was called Cote D'Azure a while back - but while racing the other day in the Type-R championship in Pro (I think it was that anyway, might have been one of the FWD races in Pro or Amateur) I saw that there *is* a track called Monaco! It's the same (as far as I could tell) as Cote D'Azure.

(UK PAL version).
 
By the way I noticed that Cote D' Azur is a little wider than MONACO. Also on the 2nd to last turn Monaco has a second tunnel (note that I got it from an F1 racing game, but when I watched the 80's MONACO it didn't have it).
 
Cote D'azur is exactly like Monaco!

In fact IT IS MONACO!

Everything from Monaco was transferred into the game possibly various sponsers are different from F1 games and live telecast but that can be expected.

There is no tunnel in any of the F1 games i have and i have bout 4 of them!

This where almost half the field was eliminated in 1980.
While in 1994 Damon Hill collided with Mika Hakkinen

"From here I accelerate up the long hill reaching about 160 mph (260 kph) before going into the long left-hand 3rd gear comer, Massenet, that leads to the famous Casino corner."

"I remain in 3rd gear for this and take it at around 75 mph (120 kph) and as I crest the hill the car becomes very light and slides towards the barrier, Then there's a very bumpy, highly cambered straight on which the car reaches around 130 mph (210 kph) and which leads down to the first of the 1st gear hairpins, the Mirabeau hairpin, which is taken at under 45 mph (70 kph.

This is where Patrick Tambay went over the top of Martin Brundle in 1986.

There's a very short period of acceleration which leads down to the tightest of all the corners at Monaco, the Grand (formerly Loews) hairpin which again is taken in 1st gear and the speed can be as low as 45 kph (30 mph).

"The downhill stretch leads to Portier which in turn leads in to the Tunnel, both of which are taken in 2nd gear at under 50 mph (80 kph). As you enter the tunnel its quite tricky because you not only have to get used to a change in the ambient light, but there is also quite a difficult corner in the tunnel which is taken at over 155 mph (250 kph) in top gear."

Virage du Portier is where Aytron Senna inexplicably crashed whilst leading in 1988.

"On exiting the tunnel braking is very difficult for the chicane as you are heading downhill and have to brake from the maximum speed on the circuit of 280 kph (170 mph) down to around 45 mph (60 kph) and 1st gear for the Harbour Chicane.

This is where Lorenzo Bandini was fatally injured in the 1967 GP.
In 1955 Alberto Ascari crashed into the harbour, as did Australian Paul Hawkins in 1965

From here I will reach around 140 mph (225 kph) before going through the Tabac corner in 4th gear at around 100 mph (160 kph). I remain in 4th gear for the first, fast, part of the Swimming Pool, before braking to 2nd gear and 50 mph (80 kph) for the second part.

The approach to the final hairpin, Rascasse, is very difficult as you have to brake from around 115 mph (185 kph) while still on a curve, down to 35 mph (50 kph) for this 1st gear corner.

On exiting this comer it is very difficult to control the wheelspin as you accelerate up to the final corner, Anthony Noghes, which is taken at around 45 mph (75 kph) in 2nd gear.

The lap then finishes on the pit straight."
