Crispy's PC Build! (Free Pics!!!)

:lol: It appears we've picked very similar parts for our build. Only difference is that I'm going for a GTX660, different case and no SSD.
 
I had to put the build on a little hiatus, I couldn't get Windows 7 in time. :( Instead we did one day shipping from Amazon, which still equalled less to a retail version anyway! :lol: Apparently Microsoft stopped selling them in retail.

No worry, it's set for delivery tomorrow so that is when I will start!
 
Okay, so everything is build (Pics later) but I've come to a problem. The Motherboard shows the code A9, which from what I gathered means the BIOS has started. Now I ran into a little pickle. My monitor is old, which means that the connections on the GPU don't work with the connections on the monitor. I connected it to the motherboard, thinking I'd run integrated graphics until I could go out and buy an adapter.

Apparently not. When I boot everything runs fine, but the screen never displays anything. (I also here a few ticks at the beginning as the fans speed up but then everything is quiet when they get to speed) Now, I'm guessing I need to remove the graphics card? Should I just unplug it from power, or should I completely remove it? I'll be using it tomorrow, so will I be able to unplug it and then just plug it back in tomorrow and use it?

Physically remove the card. If you leave the card in but unpowered all you'll get is a "please connect graphics card PCI-E power" error on screen (mind you I had my display connected to the card, not the integrated port. Either way the motherboard still knows when a card is present but unpowered); in order for the system to run off the Intel HD4000 chipset no video card can be physically present (at least until you have Windows installed and/or get past POST into the BIOS). Chuck your card back in when you have an adapter and the system will automatically detect it as the primary output device, even if you boot off the on-CPU graphics beforehand.

The first boot of my current system was done off the HD4k chip as my original system still needed to be fully operational :)
 
Okay :) Thanks! I'm probably going to call it for the night, I got the fan controller working, plus it's pretty late to be working! :lol: My computer should be okay overnight with the case open correct? I don't want to put it back on, one cause it'll wake everyone, and two cause I'll be working on cable management tomorrow morning.

Hope you don't have a cat, dog, hamster, mouse... :p

Took me two goes to get my fan controller working, the first time I wired my 500R up I didn't get the controller quite right so it didn't do anything :lol:

Got two dogs but its out of their reach, and it's only a few hours. :lol:

The fan controller was tricky, I didn't exactly know what was causing the two front fans to not work until I hunted for the Molex connector. It was hiding from me!
 
Ha, must be a Corsair trick. The molex connector was well hidden in my 400r as well.

My PC keeps getting these odd clicking sounds. It sounds like something is stuck in the fan but no wires are stuck. It goes away after a few seconds, then comes back every now and then. What is this? Everything works alright, it's just really loud and annoying.

I found out its the psu fan that does this. I don't know why and its bugging me. It starts for a second then stops. When it's running it makes the clicking sound.

Hard drive clicks. Sometimes they can be a problem but most of the time it's just just a sound your hard drive makes.
 
It's not the hard-drive. It's the PSU fan. It does this whenever it starts up and then the fan stops. Am I able to go into BIOS and set the fan to be on all the time?

EDIT: No no, hold on a second: are you sure it's not the PSU itself?



Does it sound similar to the clicking noise at the end? If so, that's perfectly normal. It's just the relays.

Most PSU's don't have a fan power header to plug into the motherboard. So it could be that the fan has a wire in it or the bearings are getting dry.
 
No it's much louder than that. It only happens when the computer is up vertical. It's probably a wire or something. Once my HDD is formatted I'll check it out. Right now it's quiet again so either the fan stopped spinning or the wire finally got pushed out on it's own. :lol:

Pics will come once I get everything I want on my computer. Should be fairly quick after the drive is formatted.

Yeah, I ended up doing a quick format instead for the HDD instead of the full format.

I was going to upload pics but that was hogging all the bandwidth. Once my game downloads I'll upload the pics and post them for all to see!
 
So, after three days I finally downloaded WoW! Now I can show you the lovely pics of the build.


Bad picture of the Cable Management... It looks much better in person and from a better angle. At least it is out of the way of most of the airflow. :lol:


Here's the nice and tidy back! It took a few tries to get the case on but eventually it worked! As you can see cable management is not my strong suit...


What is that you say? Windows is loading files? Good!


The Expanding Windows Files which takes a couple years to complete. The most anticipated moment of the day.


Finally, sitting in my room ready to play.

Hope everyone enjoyed the build as much as I did! It was great fun!
 
Looking good. As for the cable managing, you could take a similar route to the one I did and that's to look around in wire management threads and gather ideas from there and you'll eventually have such a knack on it that it could potentially become a hobby in itself. :lol:

Not all. THere are still two at the top of the case I have yet to use. I might add them a little bit later but right now they aren't needed.
