Exactly what i was thinking!
Hehe... You must have read this as I was posting in the other thread.
Anyways, works real nice. I find that the closer you attach it to the shifter housing, the better it performs.
Exactly what i was thinking!
Some really creative mods here Stones, kudos!
Nice stones, did you make that bracket yourself? Could I buy something that would do that job at a local hardware store?
So nobody take the 6 screws out of the rim and disconnect the cable? The CSR may not have the wheel release of the Elite but for the adventurous a real but modified rim could be possible.
Stones, you should update the original post with all your pics.
I also like to tinker, tho i stepped back from this project last week to get a fresh perspective on it. Couple of things i discovered would not work before I even tried to make the parts. Instead of puhing forward I decided to back away for a bit.

I did notice, which I hadn't before for some reason, that the CSR Elite looks to have a textured plastic in place of the slick stuff in those areas. I wonder if Fanatec could be convinced to sell those pieces separately to those of us who'd like to swap them out.
The grip tape solution, or my planned coating in Plasti-Dip, will certainly be effective, but they're less than elegant.
Actually, the Elite wheel looks like it has the same material that the CSR has (under the FANATEC logo) all the way around. And w/o taking off my tape, it appears that each section has it's own screw(s) so, I think it would be very possible to swap these pieces out. But, at what cost? Do we care?
If each piece comes off seperately with its own screws why cant you take the top part off, open it down the middle of the seam and wrap it in leather with the stitching together at that seam tucked into the wheel when you screw it back together? You'd have screw holes in the leather but so what? Or even easier, just wrap each half of the wheel in alecontera and screw them back together?
Wheel tape.
Decided I really didn't like the plasticky/seamed wheel and went with some black gel tape. Very comfortable.

I sold my CSR to my friend, I was over at his at the weekend. The "grip" part was really slippy, the shiny plastic part actually had more grip, and it just feels too thin for me (used to PWTS)
I'm just waiting for my CSR Elite wheel to arrive, hopefully first batch, this rim mod will be a temp measure until another rim is available.
Sorry I would've responded sooner but I was unaware others were modding out their CSR's.
...and to also cover the rim face in 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber (for the "elite look"). ....
StonesThanks for any and all input. Haven't put much up lately with all the hoopla with the Elites.
Nice stuff. It is pricey, though.
