I figured it wouldn't hurt to start a thread to help each other with common problems or questions,

I'll go first.

I got the new CSR wheel and I love it, but I can't get it to save my settings. I turn it off and back on and my settings are gone.

Is anyone else having this problem?
Does anyone having any tips?

I think I'm going to reset it and save my settings again.
 
You should checkout the 911wheel.de blog, there are several people having this problem. AFAIK it's a hardware issue, so you have to contact Fanatec support as well.
 
Hope I'm not one of those effected. But then again, it only takes the whole of 20 seconds to set the settings if you have them listed handy. Thanks for the thread though, should prove itself useful.
 
Just wanted to post that the guys at fanatec sent me (and others) an email explaining that they are working on the wheel settings not saving.

While its not a big issue, it is still a slight annoyance to go through the process everytime I start it up.
 
Does your six speed shifter work with Forza? Mine works with the PC(GTR, GT Legends) and PS3(GT5) but does not work with the XBox. Anybody else experienced this problem? I did re-calibrate and re-re-calibrate my shifter with no positive result. Any suggestions? Thanks.
P.S. My CSR does not save the settings either.
 
Sometimes I have to turn the wheel off and back on for it to recognize the shifter too. Everytime I turn the wheel on the pedals (mainly the brake pedal) need to be calibrated by pushing them in all the way too.

i have simular problems some times while racing it wont reconize 4th gear its annoying just grinds. it makes me think the shifter is broke, but then again the firmware is so messed up so i say its prob that. if any1 has same problems please post like to hear others opinions
 
My shifters work fine, the only problem I ever have is when I knock the plug out during a race.
Things you may have already tried:
I would make sure you calibrate your shifter in PC mode.
Also start your Xbox with the console button and not the wheel.
 
Just a follow-up, I was already turning the console on first, but the last 2 times, I let it load the Dashboard before turning the wheel on, calibrating and then connecting it. The game recognized the h-shifter both times. It might be awhile 'til I try again as my old body is pretty battered from playing too much...not to mention, Uncharted 3 next week. :)

I had contacted Fanatac a couple weeks ago regarding the fan noise of my CSR and was told they were aware and working on a fix. I contacted them again a couple days ago regarding the save settings bug and received this firmware update by email yesterday. I "assumed" that it would be publicly available as there was nothing in the email indicating this release was a pre-release or beta version.
I have to believe they are preparing for general distribution but as I am a new Fanatac customer I don't know the normal methods of software/firmware distribution.
 
I believe Fanatec are working through some firmware installation issues to allow people to use Win7 instead of having to use XP or XP mode through Win7. This has always been the case with Firmware updates and Fanatec wheels, but now that the CSR Wheel is MS backed/supported might have pushed the installation issue before public release. Could also be wild speculation on my part.

Can you post that firmware as a zip file here to the thread, or did they ask you not do that since it's a double secret firmware?

I used Windows XP based on Fanatec's recommendation but the install is still somewhat flaky. The install app crashed once and had to reboot a couple times to jumpstart the process (process losing visibilty of the CSR) but in the end all seems well.
I did ask Fanatec if it was OK to forward because I wasn't sure it was fully ready for prime time. They just suggested caution because of the install issues. I wouldn't suggest to those not familar with Windows but if the directions are followed it "should" work for others as it did me.

Send me a PM with an email address and I can forward.

Note: It definetly quiets the fan and corrects the settings save bug but it also "seems" like the FF is a little stronger. But don't quote me on that one.

Too late. :)

I'm going to upgrade tonight. I'll report back and let you know if I had any problems.
 
Finally got the FW to upgrade last night. Fantastic now that the noise is gone and my settings are saved.

Wheel firmware updated, few laps on forza, no RF noise, saved my setting!

Love it!!

Edit: However, there are still some level of noise that wheel make, the operation humming sound/noise is still louder than desire.
It is louder than PS3, XBox or MacBook pro .. even T500rs(stand by, w/o fan on)
