Yes the function is great but cannot see it from the front window when watching replay. Will PD fix it?

I think the fact that no one replied to this in anyway in four days highlights what the community thinks about it. I don't see the point of it at all. Why do I need any of these gauges? Why would I fit another speedometer? What does oil temp tell me?

I wish they'd given us tire size modification instead. Something that actually made an impact that mattered.

I agree. In my opinion, the gauges are only there for "appearance" as they serve no real purpose, apart from the speedometer and tach of course which most cars already have any way. For me, these features are completely useless because I very rarely use the cockpit view. If they were indeed added to perhaps mean something further on down the line, perhaps they should add them to the bumper view and such, otherwise they are just completely useless to me. I don't want to get caught quoting numbers, mainly because I haven't researched the fact, but I'm guessing more people use the other views collectively than they do cockpit view. I'm sure someone will come along though and tell me I'm wrong on this though.

I disagree. I like the gauges. I've been adding them to my upgraded cars and they help make them feel more like race cars in conjunction with the racing numbers we got earlier. Any additions to customization is a step in the right direction, in my opinion, no matter how small. I'll gladly take these until we finally get a livery editor.

I take it you drive in cockpit view then?

Cockpit view or not, what's the point of them? Like GTP_CargoRatt said, most cars already have a tachometer, speedometer, etc. Have you EVER worried about fuel pressure or oil temperature in the game?

Obviously, it's a cockpit view only addition, but with the questionable benefits. My point is, with the modelling, coding, implementation, and testing effort that went into this, it's a very poor choice of directed effort.

Tire scaling already exists in the game and EVERYONE can benefit from it if they choose to use it. Either allow it to affect grip, or not, either way there is benefit to everyone.

Someone at PD LOVES cockpit view and created a feature to try and get more people to use it. But, why? I realise a lot of effort goes into the interior view, and I appreciate it, but players will PLAY in a way that works best for them. It's akin to creating a feature where PS move controllers get special features just to boost sales of PS move controllers.

I've said it before, and I will reiterate, the way to counter the efforts of hackers is to cater to the needs of players. There is a hacking issue. People want to scale tires, tune the untunable cars, get more power, etc. Build it into the game. The game already caters to these desires in the code. It just needs UI.

For instance...more power...The engine wear of a car increases with the load on the engine. Run an engine at the redline around route X for abit and watch the power start dropping. You can run a 600PP car at 550pp for quite a while before needing an oil change, but run a car at maxed-out PP at the redline, and the oil changes become more frequent.

1000hp civics? Sure, that engine should last about 1/4 miles before it becomes essentially powerless.

I just hate getting questionable features while at the same time having to deal with real issues...like , I don't know...like NO SOUND ONLINE!!

For starters, they are good for people who don't drive with the HUD on. Depending on how much you upgrade a car, the RPMs and top speed will go beyond what the car's normal speedometer and tachometer can display. That's where the gauges come in. You can pick how many RPMs and what top speed to display.

Second, they just look cool. You may feel the gauges are pointless, but that can be said about quite a few things already in the game. Why do we need the option to change our driver's outfit? Why do we need the option to paint brake calipers? The list goes on. There are people who think a livery editor would be useless and bad addition to GT and I've seen every argument under the sun against it, even though it would be a great feature for a lot of people. Bottom line: To each his own.

Lastly, whoever added the gauges at PD may not be responsible for issues with the game. They also shouldn't stop adding content just because the game has some problems.

I worry about my oil temperature ..... NOT

Having the fuel gauge is nice in that it allows me to use cockpit view without the need for the HUD in races where tire wear and fuel consumption are enabled. That said, I couldn't give the hairiest part of a rat's behind about seeing it from the outside of the car--during a replay or otherwise.

I think very few people wanted this feature and it must have taken a lot of work to implement.

It is good that we got racing numbers recently - that is something that a lot of people had requested, but I wish PD would focus its efforts on stuff that people actually want.

Personalising a car and a driver is a use in itself. It's as true in the game as it is in real life. I agree with the livery editor. I think it would be a good addition although I might never use it. Although the gauges are functional, who asked for them? I did a search for threads on requests additional gauges (prior to the update) and found nothing. Maybe I just typed it wrong.

The notifications in game state clearly that if two people with gauges enter a lobby, the game crashes. How that slipped by, I don't know.

I have noticed that whenever I lose sound, or someone else in the room loses sound, it is always (because I have been paying attention now) associated to someone entering or leaving the lobby. Maybe it's related.

What I'm trying to say is not that gauges will never be used by anyone, because obviously some people like them. What I am trying to say is that there are features that have been requested many times that are being ignored. Features that are already half complete, features you can hack the game to access, and like the livery editor, features in demand.

My only argument to support the omission of some of these features is memory constraints. The livery editor for instance may not be possible without some other visual downgrade. However, the missing GT5 features?? Wider tires? Pretty much anything that has been asked for in the feature request forum?

Add to that this sound bug that is STILL not addressed and I can't help but feel that the loyal supporters of the game are being completely ignored.

The gauges may not be so useful but they are more of a visual customisation feature, like changing wheels. It's a nice addition and it makes tuned cars look cooler.

As for the gauges not appearing outside the car (in game): GT probably has a cockpit model separate from the whole car body model that you see when in chase cam, etc. In FPS terms the cockpit view is the high res "viewmodel" and the chase cam has the lower polygon "worldmodel" interior (for example in the Nissan GT-R you clearly can see that the display on the center console is just a static texture in chase cam). This is done to save resources of the console. The game loads the "HD" cockpit when you go to cockpit view or photomode (but only for your car, the game doesn't load the cockpit for the other cars on the track). The thing is that gauges only exist in the cockpit view because there's no "worldmodel" for them so you can't see them during gameplay or in replays, unless you enter photomode. To fix this PD would have to add lower polygon version of the gauges and place them on each car on the body model.
