Chevy outscources the tranny. I beleive it is a Tremec T-56. But the main problem with the GTO was that they were slower than the Camaro SS and Trans-Am WS6 because they weighed do mush less than the GTO, I do agree. And the engine is a General Motors product, and always has been. It was never a Chevrolet only engine.

Chevy Monte Carlo Supercharged SS. Makes 280 lb-ft torque. I can tell you every thing you could ever want to know about it cuz I drive one. There also good in snow.

and chevy makes the engine trans and rear end that make it move the gto actually isnt a great car by any means just because they weigh well over 4k pounds

As Toronado said the engine is GM (LS1, LS2, call it chev if you wish), the manual gearbox is made by Tremec not Chev and the auto is a GM Hydramatic, the rear end is not Chev to my knowledge it is build here locally (Australia) and as for weighing well over 4000 lbs........ First I heard of that.

Vehicle weighs 3725lbs, or 1690kg (4000lbs would be 1814kg).

Indeed, I don't know where he got "they weigh well over 4k pounds " from.

What's comical is that he was arguing in support of the vehicle, then produced a fact making it seem notably worse than it actually was.

Stealths defenitely have reliability/durability problems.

My friend had what he called a "Stealthubishi", it was an R/T which had been in a front end collision, so he pulled the frame, and installed the Twin-turbo motor and front end from an early-model JDM 3000GT/GTO.

That car was proof that WRX transmissions are nowhere near the weakest on the market. He got sick of the car, and sold it to some guy. Long story short, the guy calls him back the next day, pissed. Seems the new owner sidestepped the clutch and blew the tranny on his first attempt to launch the car.
