And this is what starting 17th looks like :banghead:

That whole race was a mess. I got bumped off couple times, and get SR Down for it. Especially the last corner is easy to bump people across the outer line and get away with it. Also got a 1 sec penalty from being on the inside of a corner with a car that couldn't drive side by side. First SR loss today, -12 to 87. So much bumping.

That turn 1 :lol: One of those occasions where you can forgive the penalty system for not knowing wtf to do. Second chicane you were super unlucky with the Mustang unghosting like that. I'm going to do some practice and leave actual racing until later in the week. Until I get tempted later and say goodbye to some SR... :)

Isn't that bound to happen when you deliberately qualify slower than your ability? If the car in front is slower than you, there must be bits of the track where they're going to go slower than you would, as they must be losing the time somewhere. You can't know in advance which bits of the track they're particularly rubbish at, so sooner or later they'll appear to brake check you when they're actually just driving as best they can.

I compensate for slow, it's hard to compensate for stopping and asking for directions while I have a car right on my back. It doesn't really matter at the second chicane where you started the race. It's all scrambled up already after T1.

Here's starting in 15th. (No clue why I'm reported as 1 bar here, all seemed fine as well as racing other reported 1 bar connections)

I survived that without SR Down, didn't matter, I got a laggy Argentinian pushing behind me later giving me SR Down. We had a good fun duel yet at Ascari he didn't respect my track position after I had given him room all the times before.... 2 sec penalty for me in the last lap, so he skipped ahead of me again at the finish. -3 SR for me (red S). He left with a red B.

I'll qualify again when PD fixes the penalty system. That was my standpoint last Summer and it hasn't changed yet.

I'm going to do some practice and leave actual racing until later in the week. Until I get tempted later and say goodbye to some SR... :)

I did that last week, for la Sarthe. I could have done an hours practice, and jumped straight in. But, that wouldn't have been as successful. Spent Monday, and Tuesday evenings setting ever faster Q laps, and getting used to the track.

It paid off. I'll do the same at Monza. With it being a longer race, I'll run a few lobby sessions to get used to the tyre wear again, instead of getting used to the circuit.

Besides, I'm hoping everyone will have calmed down a bit by Wednesday.
 
Time for qualification on Race A along with wheel practice. I find road cars great for practice. I used the Impreza, R32 and R34.

I found the Impreza most fun to drive albeit slower than the rest. I managed a 1:05.6.

Next up was the R34 which I got a 1:05.3 with. The R32 was definitely fastest but braking isn't all that great even with my BB adjustments but despite that, I hit a 1:05.1.

Last of all, I switched over to my controller and got a 1:04.2 time in the R32. So I guess an improvement with the wheel somewhat.
 
a 1.48.2 has been seeing me start in the top 4 for most races i've done today. No doubt be mid grid once everyone else has had a go! So far have been lucky on T1. Have heard and seen carnage behind me on each race. The last race starting 3rd and just us top 3 making it through T1 safely. Perhaps i should just stop now before i get pulled into the middle of the pack haha!

Its that feeling of dread approaching T1 just thinking pleeease no! :scared:
 
The Jaguar is serving me well. Almost bottled it near the end, but comfortable win overall!

Depends, I just saw someone short cut the second half and not get anything. If you cut too much you get reset. Actually I have not seen any shortcut penalties there yet just chaos.

Another attempt in the Supra spoiled. I brake on time yet the car next to me does not and takes out 2 cars in T1. Meanwhile cars are popping back into existence in the middle of the chicane, one reset actually messing up my car. The driver that took out 2 cars decides to stop in shame, not a good idea with traffic still coming from behind. I can't avoid his parking manoever and get SR Down for a tap at corner exit. I got bumped from behind by a MacLaren later for another SR Down. 2 SR Downs is still +5 SR for the race, to 89.

At this rate I'll be racing the Supra all week. (Not switching until I get a clean race bonus) I'm into the 1:50 laps now, it's all practice.

Next one spoiled by a laggy Brazillian. He's fast but inconsistent and has to bump. He bumped me off twice as well (7 sec penalties) and left to SR.A. I got 3 SR Downs from his bumps, +1 SR for the race.

I'm hoping the weather clears up, this is getting tedious. One more try.

The speed bumps are enough penalty, you're taking a shorter route but they throw the car up into the air so you rejoin at an iffy angle with no speed.

It depends on whether the blocks have already been punted out of the way by someone else. This car went just inside the speed bumps, car was fine, he increased the gap on me, no penalty.

Yup, that is one SMOKIN Hot Lap @Mistah_MCA , holy smokes that’s fast bro!! I could barely get within a second of it. Most excellent lap man!! That’s gonna be a fun one to chase this week. :cheers:

On a side note, you can get away with using so much kerb at Monza, especially the first 2 chicanes.

A couple of hours until I'm home.

That's a couple of hours of trying to decide whether to use the old faithful Project 1 RSR (she is my manufacturer loan, after all) or do I continue my sordid love affair with various liveried GTRs?
 
Something weird just happened in Kie25's stream for race B. He was the only A+/S in the lobby, everyone else was D/S. He said it's because his SR is 80-89 rather than 90+, but surely he can't have been the only driver in C, B, A, A+ or S / S with a SR 80-89?

I remember about a year ago, the guy with the top time for a Monza race was blasting straight through the middle of the second chicane with no brakes, just right between the barriers, on the throttle. He just about came to a stop at the final turn to scrub the penalty time, and still was faster then people who went around the chicane with no penalty. Not sure if you could even do that now, without being reset on the track.

Nope, blew thru there by accident today, 2 second penalty.

It happens quite often if you end up in the dirty S lobby, if you drop down to the A lobby the races are suddenly balanced again.

You can still do that if a dive bomb clips you first. That happened to me just now, managed to 'save' the turn by going in between the blocks after getting bumped wide. Finally my first clean race bonus on Monza!

First, a rarity, incident free T1. It is possible!
Second chicane all good as well!!
Ascari, very tight, might have tapped the car in front while concentrating on the car coming in from behind.
Lap 2 T1, traffic jam. The cars from far back catch up and I get a tap from behind in the chicane.
I step off the track to make sure I don't get SR Down. That works but I lose 4 positions.
Lap 2 second chicane, McLaren dive bomb gets me but I manage to avoid the blocks.
Rest of lap 2 is slow going, stuck behind traffic.
Start lap 3 I sneak in between 2 cars on the way to T1, chaos, I survive and end up in 10th.
Fast forward to lap 7, 4 cars collide in T1. I pass 2 wrecks and the 2 with penalty at the penalty zone.
Rest of the race a MacLaren closes in but can't get his braking right.

1 down, 34 to go :sick:

Top job Sven, I admire your tenacity. After my experience at DT today I'm fairly certain i'd go insane trying to clean race everything. Good luck with the worse-at-braking cars. Can't imagine it will be easy in the f1 :p

He was most likely not the only driver in 80-89 range. The way matchmaking works is that the 'left over' 90-99 D/S drivers go to the next room and get paired with the highest DR available in the 80-89 range to fill the room. In this case only one extra car was needed, which happened to be an A+ driver in the 80-89 range, racing the rest of the D/S drivers in 90-99 range.

Oh, boy. That sounds like quite a potential exploit. Theoretically, someone could create contact with another car, then shoot straight through the middle of the second chicane, penalty free.
 
Break time over, first attempt in the Jaguar F-type 👎

T1 I get a mystery SR Down. On review it turns out it's from a car spawning on top of me :banghead:

Thia happens more often that a car reset messes my car up. What is so hard PD, ghost first, then spawn. Not spawn first, then ghost.

It wouldn't have mattered in the end. The Jag was driving a lot worse than the Supra, I went wide at Lesmo 2 and got rear ended by an Audi not choosing the clear road to pass instead of my bumper, 3 sec penalty for me as he went on the grass to pass.
Then I notice I'm on hard tires and TCS has reset back to 3 as well. Grrr, why does everything keep resetting. I end up in 20th, fix TCS, get medium tires in the pit and start running 1:50 laps to finish in 14th.

I need a pre-race check list. Check tires, check TCS, make sure the rest of the settings are not messed with.

-2 SR for a respawn SR Down and a 3 sec penalty from getting hit from behind. 97, still good.

There were two actually - an Australian from early on in the week, and then a Brazilian I think. Then the Aussie beat the Hungarian - TX3_Adam18 - by 1/100th of a second - a comfortable margin. Aussie player was TRL_holl01 - with a 57.964.

I had three races today too - one was against TRL_holl01. I texted pre race "I am honoured" !!! I jumped away at the start, and got out 1o 1.5 seconds. I was watching for him to come, and after two average corners lap 3, I saw he was coming. I moved over to watch his line - but it was not him!! I GAVE the race away!!! The fast guy crashed out I guess ...

I learn't another lesson - its best not to star gaze at someone via your rear view mirror while racing ... I also lost the second race due to once again, lapping a car that did not grey out. I think its the Australian delay vis a vis Japan ... somewhat annoying throwing a race away while a few seconds in front due to lapping a car ... also the bonus SR stopped happening to me, no idea why ...

I was going to do some laps to lower my qualifying but ran out of time due to those races and doing other things. While you can watch someone in the qualifying replays, it's not at all the same IMO as actually closely following a fast driver. I've met a few this week and learn't the confidence a hand controller fast guy has on the edge of the track due to their ability to quickly turn the front tyres.

I'd love to know how the fast guys go about qualifying ie their whole process.

Jmo, but imo a good controller was an advantage somewhat in that combo in some ways vs someone like myself who is a more lower level player typically. The input smoothing can’t be denied.
The blending aspect of brake and throttle at transitions, if done right is advantageous unless a pedal guy has iof quality footwork.
I can’t do left foot braking it’s not gonna ever happen, and I’d still be horrid on brakes without a load cell.
That said a race is a race man. Letters in front of names, you tube channels are meaningless at go time. That’s how I deal with it. I do my best to always race the same against all.
I’m not gonna let a person by because of a letter near their name. I will let them by when it’s warranted, if that makes sense.
I don’t run alt account because I always race the same. If I feel confident enough I race if not I don’t. It’s a race.
Anyhow I learned a lot this last week also.
I got caught out with the curbing being more penal in race than qual.
I’ve no idea what others do for qual, but I try to find real world real racing info.
It’s an outstanding game this.
