How do I get stuck in these ruts where I can't match my Q lap from day 1? I spent the last hour and a half trying to better my time at Tsukuba, and couldn't even match the time I set yesterday on my 5th lap. This happens pretty often. I don't know why. :banghead:

Tsukuba is a weird circuit because all of the corners are almost equally important. So you can't even log a useful lap unless you hit every single corner better than your last best lap. The graph tools are good here because they'll show where' you're lacking relative to the track and then you'll see that you're just swapping time between corners without lowering your overall time.

Trying to qualify better for race B. @Pigems vid helped me get down to 1.39.803, which I'm pretty sure is still slow as all hell. Definitely doing better through chicane 1, I really need to learn to abuse kerbs by instinct instead of this thread reminding me every time. I blame rally instincts.

The hairpin I think I'm doing OK, but the twisties, trying to hold 4th thru there like the vid, seems slow and hard getting on the power, then the long left, I had been holding 3rd all the way, noticed you drop to 2nd and been trying to emulate it, but end up running wide onto the red surface. Help! Brake Balance? Something?

You definitely need to get on the Kurbs at DT, they are super wide and fairly friendly in most cases. Just think of them as part of the tarmac.

As for the first chicane, ideally you want to straddle the red mark on each apex, too much to one side and it kicks the car, too much to the other it kicks the car and you get a penalty too. It’s a very tough spot to get through quickly. :)

Gonna give a shoutout to @Pigems for his time on the Daily A Race. I like to beat his times as a sign of dominance* as one of my goals, since he gets some juicy lap times.

Haha I know exactly how you feel man, after 50 laps of Monza yesterday I was feeling the exact same way about your 46.X lap, like HTF did he do that? Wanna trade? :lol:

I was determined to hit the 1.37 at DTG today. So no racing only Q’s. With still some nerves when coming into the chicane (where I am sure about I can gain some time) I was able to hit the 1.37.745. 👍 Went BB on +3 any tips are welcome to improve!

No alien stuff but I hope this clip can help some brothers in need:

The same thing happens to me too, there are times where I can’t match my Monday times until Friday or Saturday, if I even do at all. Yet some weeks I can better it every day thru the week, it’s maddening at times. I think in most cases it’s just trying too hard to push for that next little bit, instead of just relaxing, doing your thing, and letting it come to you. :)

I was hoping it was Autopolis Short, that’s a fun little track, it would be a good race in the Scirocco. The long sweeping left in an FF car would/will be interesting. :)

It’s 10 laps too, so my hopes that it would be the Gordhini are smashed, I want to race that car really bad for some reason. :lol: They will have to be just under 2 minute laps to keep to the 18-20 minute race time. What GrX cars fit that mould?

I also had this problem. Well kinda... After a couple of laps/hours I always had the problem I was setting slower laps and being less consistent. After a while I took a little brake and went for it again. Fresh mindset. I don’t know if this also counts for you but I found out that my issue was being more and more aggressive when trying to go for a faster Q. So I told myself to chill and focus on smooth and consistent laps and see where I could improve. Also helped me today on my Q on DTG. :)
 
I'm not sure if it was noted or picked up on (at least, I didn't see mention of it through the several hundred replies.) Sorry if so but there's once again no CSA or ASM for all races this week:

Last week gave you the option of CSA for Race B and C although not Race A. While the week before last disabled CSA for all races but it was later enabled midweek. I'm therefore going to conclude PD are undecided with how CSA and ASM should be handled. :lol:

It would be interesting to see how people are finding this change. Whether it's negatively impacted their experience or if they've been able to adjust.

Looking over the 58 GRX cars, I counted 16-17 that might do it in less than 2 minutes. If it's only hard tires, maybe cut that list in half. Might be possible in the Zonda, with a good driver.

I just cant find the best BB. I've done a .38.6 with the Scirocco, but i don't want to drive it in the race. I had 5 races with the GT-R , and had 4 top 3 places. But, the GT-R feels so heavy at the hairpin and in the last sector. My Q car(Scirocco) is like a snail in to the triple right hander. ...Any advice, Racers?

4th gear, light throttle. Use the off throttle to keep it tight. Trust me, I know the car and the track, 👍 Want more speed? Use the Megane. "They" can't catch you. I walked away from a GT-R and WRX at the beach hairpin exit.

edit: Juuuuuust read Autopolis Gr.4 next week! Two favorite tracks in a row? Impossible! I love you, PD.

We used to have Scirocco as the One make Gr.4. Then, the Slophy. Then, got the TT One Make. TCR Japan was just last weekend at Autopolis. Wonder if we'll use another FF car. Or maybbe the RC F as Lexus sponsorship on the front straight. SHould be good. Too bad it's the least amount of cars.

Brand's hatch, GR.3 count me in. The quest for clean race bonus for all GR.3 cars continues. At least on Brand's some more cars should actually be able to compete, plus no tire wear or fuel saving to level the field a bit more. First back to the GT-R crowd on Monza, what car to use next.

Happens to me often. Like @Pigems and others said, likely from needing a break and pushing to hard. I found some success taking that needed break, and then running a dozen laps in arcade TT, same combo but with 2 steps down on the tires. Forces me to take my brake points back out and be easier on the throttle. Once I return to the TT, the car feels like it's on racing tires and I usually get a better lap.

I'm old. Naps help too.

    I don't understand your question. I'm sure many people do. Are you asking if they use the Subaru with great success?

    I explain. I had around 10 races this evening. Most people drive the Huracan and Tt Rs. Saw some Lancers, one Atenza, one Veyron, one Cayman. Noother cars yet. I wonder because I drive the Subaru again and again and have success. No problems to stay close to the Lambos.
    I asked, because I want whether other people also drive this car, because in case it is a good and competitive option on this track.

That was fun. Well. Actually it kinda was. Start at the beginning. Still in our beloved Aston Martin from last week, handles quite nicely thank you. Ran 20 QTT laps in total. I'm on a 1.50.8xx but opt is a 1.49.9xx. I nailed the 2nd chicane once and couldn't do it again apparently. Went for a wrec... Race...

Start P10. Got through T1&2 with a 2 second penalty. I actually don't know what for. I even watched the replay and I still don't know. Cruising around watching all the carnage unfold up ahead making places and then losing them again due to the penalties. I also managed to bin it at Parabolica on lap 3 when I only realised too late someone had wiped out the cones... Everyone in front did the same so we didn't lose out there.

I earnt a couple of .5 seconders myself for being too greedy at Ascari, which considering how lenient it is says a lot. And then picked up another 3 seconds when second place GT-R did something incredibly stupid around curve grande. Out of position due to pits stops I let him through only for him to step on the grass and well... He didn't finish 2nd in the end.

After all that I ended up finishing P9. Up 1. I didn't overtake or get overtaken at all through the race. All the place swapping was due to chaos and penalty serving which makes me think results are available.

Oh well. Lets see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully a 1.49.XXX and then anything else is a bonus!

In time trials, some of my best laps were in the WRX. It's a solid choice.

@Oshawa-Joe That's sound advice. I use Time Trial mode a lot. But, a while back I learned a lesson about using that mode. I was testing Gr.4 cars for a weekly race at Tokyo Expressway East Outer Loop, and was way slower than everyone else's times in the Huracan.

Then, I saw in top 10 replays that other guys in the Huracan were getting up to 168 on the straight, but mine was maxing out at 160. I had the BoP turned on, so all things should have been equal. I worried that it was like GT games in the past, and my car lost power because I had so many miles on it. I even contacted Sven, and got him to check it on his highest mileage car vs. a brand new one. He said it was the same for both. He suggested I check my tuning. Sure enough, I had previously tweaked my gear ratio for some other race. Thank you, @Sven Jurgens

The lesson I learned is that turning on BoP only adjusts the power and weight. I assumed it adjusted all settings. :dunce: So, now when I do Time Trial testing for a weekly race, I always make sure all tuning settings are on Default.

They did this a few weeks ago also. I used to have CSA on but not after last week. I get better times with it off

I can stand on the gas early at T1("Dragon's back"), "Beach Hairpin", The Four Brothers and the final turn("DTG Corner"). Actually feels like I'm on RSS tyres.
No understeer, no oversteer, no sliding. It's just planted for the whole lap, consistently. The Huracan took my FL by 0.050 seconds. The Kelly Racing TCR Castrol WRX is highly recommended.

Edit: Call me Moses. All I have to do is watch the sea part and just stroll on through.

I'm the only car on RH. Just like the Vantage: Fuel 2 and pit for 2 laps of fuel at end of Lap 5.
All the other players do the rest for you. Want that spot ahead? The fast moving GT-R can't stop with all that speed and takes someone out for you. Want the heat from behind removed? Let the car behind get the slipstream, let it pull alongside and then early brake and watch it miss the corner for the switchback. Lovely.

Back behind the wheel. First race tonight in the Lancer, T1 already robbed me of the clean race bonus with an SR Down getting in the middle of traffic. Letting the cars behind me go by for T1 might be the only way to get consistent clean race bonuses on this track. One car behind me made chaos in T1 and didn't even get a penalty for bumping 2 cars off, the others pressed me on to keep going trying to navigate between the ghosts, flying blocks, respawning cars and actual traffic.

Anyway, that left me free of worrying about it for the rest of the race which went great. No more SR Downsand the Lancer drives quite nicely on the track. At first I was burning way too much fuel shifting down too much, shifting up too late. Go in 3rd instead of second through the second chicane, in 4th through the rest of the corners instead of dropping to 3rd seems to work fine. Shift to 6th at 70%. Next race my pit stop time should be a lot shorter instead of arriving with 5% left. I finished 5th with best lap of high 1:50, not the fastest, but easy to drive and can brake very late.
 
is it me or are the online races getting worse?

I was on the verge of getting back to a B rating after falling to a C, after that Super Formula FIA race a month or so ago. And today everything went to ****. Could not do a single race without being rammed or punted off the track, or whacked with a 4 second penalty for someone losing control and crashing into me. I'm now a Low-D rating 🤬:banghead::ouch:
 
Yes, they are getting worse. It looks like I'll be driving the Lancer all evening as dirty hour is in full effect. This time a laggy Argentinian took the honor of the first SR Down. After punting a car off in Ascari he slowed down to admire his handi work. Then as I moved to pass on the side, he swerved over to bump me, stupid me hang onto the track and got SR Down. Didn't matter as later there was more door banging, seems hardly anybody respects track position anymore. I got a 1 sec penalty from a car ramming me at the apex, don't try to overtake on the inside... breaking my own rules for racing with this penalty system :/ -1 SR for the race, minimal damage. A couple trouble makers went off to SR.A including the winner. Whole bunch of red S drivers are sure to follow next race.

It's a 9 lap race, yet people drive as if it's a 3 lap sprint. (Perhaps still used to the big SR pool and few penalties of last week's race) The first lap especially. I started 14th of 20, worst position. Bunch of cars behind me and about 5 slowed down before Ascari in the penalty zone. That first penalty zone might actually beat T1 for the worst danger zone.

I suspect it's not so much that they're getting worse, more that you got to a level that is roughly right for your current standard. When your DR is much too low, you qualify either on pole or close, and mostly drive away from everyone, and this means you don't get rammed much, so most races your DR increases. As you approach your limit, you start to qualify lower down, say 4th-5th, and it's more of a struggle to not get rammed. This happens even if everyone is trying hard to drive clean, it's just a natural consequence of the field compressing with the slipstream, and there not being huge differences in ability between the people close together on the track. When you get to around the right DR for your standard, you're qualifying around the middle of the field, with lots of drivers of similar ability close to you on the track. At C rating, obviously people make many mistakes - if they were able to drive perfectly all the time, they'd be A+ not C, so you have to expect imperfect driving from people. Much of the time it's incompetence not malice.

So if your true standard is high C/low B, and you're now low D, it should get easier for a while, as you should be able to qualify close to the front, and then your DR will steadily rise again, your starting positions will fall down the field, and you'll gradually experience more collisions again.
