Hahaha, that's impressive. I thought getting a blue S while racing mid pack at Fuji was a myth :p How nasty were the SR/A lobbies there?

I’m not sure but I think the lobbies after midnight can be cleaner ‘cause the kids have gone to bed. Midday was horrible. Got to 85SR Friday night and dumped to 69 again Saturday midday. Had to race again Saturday night to claw back again. I’ll edit some footage if I get a second. 1 race on the main straight I was behind a whole group of 4 or 5 getting revenge attacks on each other. As they wiped themselves out it was like the parting of the seas in front of me.:D

I had a couple more good runs tonight and got to race with @Winnie847 and @Rexracer702 a couple times, always a pleasure gents. :)

I managed to win the first one but only because @Winnie847 had an unfortunate incident in the first chicane going down the straight away, I was really looking forward to trying to chase him down. I managed to hang on though and pulled out my second Win of the night with the TS050. :)

The second race had a couple more fast guys in it and I was only able to manage a 4th place finish, it was a good run I just couldn’t keep up with them this time, no one made any big mistakes. It was a great night of racing and a nice way to cap off the week. Thanks again for the great races fellas! :)

Congrats on the win, nice racing with you man. I just can’t seem to find race pace with the R18 even though I can qualify like a madman in it. The 908 seems to serve me better on fuel, but I should probably try the Toyota next time too.

Only 3 races at La Sarthe this week, one win, one 2nd place and that one terrible race where I finished 6th. Crazy to think that those results end up losing me a bunch of DR.

I’ve been enjoying trying to teach myself how to drive again on my 2nd account, but in most cars I haven’t quite reached my old pace yet so I’m not using Winnie847 much, at least not until I’m faster and safer.

Oi what a night . Was too long of a wait for Race B so I entered Race A at the back. Had two contacts.. @Sven Jurgens stunt driver must have immigrated to Asia , he thought RBR was Mt Akina. I finished 3 places up with a white SR and donated 300 DR to the rest of the field :odd:.

Had a crack at Race B from the back with the GT-R. Not the fastest around the track, I hadn't done any laps with the GT-R for race B before, so i was just feeling my way around. Finished 2 places up, SR up 4 and donated another 300 DR to the grid. At least they gave me the correct racing number :p.

Race C, the whole point to trying to get back some SR in the previous two races. "Welcome back Asia" was due for a change, so my pre-race comment was changed to "Use your friggin brakes, not me!!". I started P7/16 on a mixed grid of DR/S-D. I took the McLaren for a spin since no one was giving it any love.

Another awkward chicane start. I was being careful. Luckily the car behind must have had a hard time with the chicane when auto drive let go, so I had a 1.5s buffer with which to negotiate Dunlop. I started short shifting and I was away. I had to take evasive action at the first chicane on Mulsanne which resulted in clouds of smoke. Lost a place but kept on going. I slowly started to gain some and was up to P5when I discoverd my short shifting just wasn't enough. I had to do a splash and go at the end of lap 4.

Pitting wastes *soooo* much time!! By the time I hit the track again I was in P11. I gained ground on the car in front, but dumped it in the sand at Mulsanne corner and then spun out trying to get out. I got going again, and the guy in P12 was now 12s behind me, and the guy in P10 was about 6s ahead. I passed an R92 that had run out of go go juice, and a guy who spun out and hit the wall. By this time the tyres were mush and I was sliding all over the place like a drunken sailor. The race timed out with me in P9.

🤬 finally! The only Race C for the week that ended with a blue SR! I gained 6 SR and my DR went up by 280. Nice to end the week on a posative :odd:. Another day above DR 1 :dopey:.

Thanks man, it was great racing with you too. Once you switched cars for the second race I couldn’t keep up at all, you guys just kept getting smaller and smaller in front of me lol. I tried the R18 in one race yesterday but I found it felt really sluggish on FM3, it’s great for Qualifying since it’s on full power then but I’ve been liking the Toyota for racing, it brakes and corners really well but it does get passed on the straights, but it can be run on FM1 the entire way so that gives it a good chance against everyone else saving fuel . I wanted to try the 908 but didn’t know if short shifting was enough to make it the whole way without using FM2 or lower. I hope to see you out there again soon man. :)

I don’t blame you on using the 2nd account, Once you’re above 45k 2nd place finishes or less usually mean -DR, and that’s no good for FIA races.

When I tried to switch to using 2 feet and no TCS, I was bringing up the rear in every FIA race I joined on Winnie847, since I was in top split lobbies. I told myself I wouldn't embarrass myself further or ruin anyone else's races by continuing that way until I found my pace again. So I started on my girlfriend's account to see if I could make A+ with the new methods. I'm still doing the occasional daily race with my account, but only on combos where I can match my old times and feel confident...no FIA races.

Unfortunately for me, I still use auto-transmission most of the time, so saving fuel is a bit more challenging. I don't lose much pace in high-powered cars by using AT except when there's fuel saving and I have to fuel map instead of short shift. Because of this, the R18 is too slow, but if you can short shift it works better. Having said that, the 908 is still better on fuel and if I conserve as aggressively as I do in the R18, I can run the final 2 laps at full speed. That's why I was able to pull away from you in that 2nd race. Diesel power!

Also, if you don't know this already, here's a tip....if you're qualifying in the R18, set your brake balance to +4 or even +5 if you can manage it. You get more juice out of the hybrid system this way. It has the potential to gain you at least a few tenths on the last couple straights. In race I can only manage +4 for the first couple laps then I switch to +3, but qualifying without tire wear you're less likely to slide through turns and it gives you additional boost. Another thing I noticed when I was behind you for those couple laps, was that you're taking the first Ford Chicane pretty slow. I bet you could find at least .5s there. I'm always amazed at how fast I can actually take it. Brake late, like just before the kerbs start on your right hand side, and chuck it through there as straight as possible, two wheels outside the lines on each of the 2 apexes. You can come real close to cutting it without actually doing so. If you go through there fast enough you should be braking real hard for the 2nd, tighter chicane just before the finish. It seemed like you were braking too much initially then kinda coasting between the 2 chicanes.

Well, I like the 908, but short shifting wasn't doing it for me. First race with @Pigems and @Winnie847 up ahead started okay. I decided to watch my radar and short shift through lap 1 and see where I was when I hit the straight on lap 2. Made up a couple of positions and was feeling good after the first lap until I looked at my fuel display on the way to the first chicane. 1.2 laps down, and 3.2 laps of fuel left, with short shifting...switched to FM2 for the rest of the lap, and back to my radar. Checked again, same spot, on lap 3. Still behind and not gaining. Up to FM3 and I gave up on radar. Spent the rest of the race playing with fuel, and that did nothing for my driving. I'll have to look at my saved race, but my finishes were not great, due to fuel distraction in that first race, then an added bonus of a guy bouncing off of my rear bumper down the main straight in my next race, giving me 2 SR down flags and pushing me wide in the first chicane, then, after a sweet, clean pass into the second chicane to get by him again,(3rd gear in and out now) he spun me coming out of Mulsanne and my race fell apart after that. I switched to the Toyota so I could concentrate on racing, and got booted waiting in the pits, so I called it quits for the night.
I may have to try the Audi for some hot laps now that I found a little speed. I know I can get the 908 into the 24's with enough time since my optimal was 25 flat and I can get my optimal into the low 25's in 2 or 3 laps now...I just need to string the sectors together. I won't be racing anything but the Toyota today, unless I decide to pit. I wish medium tires were an option, then I would try a bunch of cars with a pit.
See you guys out there

Ha, you would think it would go better once there are enough people awake to fill a full SR.S room. Not so, still get rammed and get a penalty for it. It's hard to gain SR on Sunday, currently at 87. I'm also racing at my old tv and I'm a full second per lap slower on that, funny how much difference a different screen can make.

You may have to shift earlier than you think. In my saved replay, I generally shift when the RPM bar above the speedometer is about 1/3 full and finish with 1% left. It does make you slower, but not nearly as much as changing the fuel map to even 2. Plus everyone else is doing the same, so it's not an issue :)

Thanks very much for the tip, I do kinda of coast a bit through there, i struggle with chicanes in general in fast cars, I’ll work on that today. Also for the tip on the R18, I definitely did not know that. :)

When did you switch to left foot braking? I switched a while back too and it did take a lot of getting used to at first, once I realized that trail braking was a very similar motion to releasing a real clutch in first gear from a stop it kinda clicked for me and I started to improve at it. Same goes for Auto transmission, I’ve always drove manual IRL but until I started playing Sport Mode I used auto in GT because I found it hard to feel the gear changes like you can in a real car, especially when downshifting. The feels are there it’s just different than the feels of a real car I guess, once you find them though you will be faster than ever! :)

I still use TCS 2 with these cars, I give mad props to anyone who goes into any race without TCS in Gr3 or above, I am just not brave enough yet.

Actually, in the one race I tried the R18 yesterday I started 4th so right on the last chicane when the lights go green, I hit the gas and next thing I know I’m facing the guy behind me because I still had the TCS turned off from Qualifying laps, whoops.

See you guys out there

It was nice seeing you out there too bud, I love when there's several GTP guys in one race.

Here's how I manage fuel in the 908, without short shifting: FM3 through the first sector until I get through tetre rouge and onto the first long straight. Switch to FM1 just to accelerate to high speed, then switch to FM6 after reaching about 185mph. Switch to FM1 again when accelerating out of the next chicane, then back to FM6 when you're up to speed again. I follow this pattern, FM1 for accelerating into the straights, FM6 once you're going fast enough to gain on the hybrids. Stay in FM6 through the Porsche and Corvette curves, then switch back to FM3 just before the Ford Chicanes. I do this for 3 laps, then I usually have enough to run the final 2 laps with no saving at all.

Thanks very much for the tip, I do kinda of coast a bit through there, I’ll work on that today. Also for the tip on the R18, I definitely did not know that. :)

I just switched at the beginning of the current FIA season, so only 2 or 3 weeks ago. I've gained time already by braking later and throttling earlier, I'm just not trail-braking as consistently as I was since my left foot is severely undercalibrated, haha...but I'm improving quickly. I was using 2 feet yesterday, but I still use TCS2 on Gr.1 cars in races. I'm the same, I can manage qualy but not in race yet. I have been able to handle the Gr.3 and Gr.2 cars with no TCS in races so far, but I know I'm still a little off pace and need more consistency. I can feel the potential there though, and it's exciting.

That's a very good point about the clutch thing, I've never thought of it that way. I am accustomed to using manual in Gr.4 and below, because in those classes I find that I lose a ton of time using AT. Someday I'll make the switch entirely, I just didn't want to change everything up at once. One day I'll be a real racer, I swear!

Wait for Mt Doom again next week

Actually, I have seen a few people comment on what's to come in future weeks but I don't know where to find this info. Can you please shed some light on that?

I hope you aren't seriously saying that Mount Panorama is on the slate for next week yet again!!!

Like, seriously, an automated randomizer would do a better job of keeping things interesting. Wtaf??

I just short shift the 908. As soon as the shift indicator shows some red, upshift. You should be able to do all five laps without issue. I find it's too slow if you try to run it lean, so short shifting it the only answer.

I run mine with -1 braking so the rears have a bit more grip on corner exit. As I've said in the past, you just have to bleed into the throttle a little. Imagine taking 1 full second to go from no throttle to full throttle. If you practice that way, you'll quickly get the feel for how to drive without the TCS.

Also, try not to have any turn in the steering. If you are straight, the car should just launch.

New events are up!

Race A: Kyoto Yamagiwa II - N100 ~ One make (c'mon Sambabus) Actually, the Porsche speedster would be cool.
Race B: Lake Maggiore GP - Gr.3 (destruction derby)
Race C: Nurburgring GP - Gr.4
:indiff:

Edit: Then, after that, it says

Race A: Lake Maggiore Center - Gr.4 ~ One make (probably a Scirocco repeat)
Race A: Dragon Trail Seaside - Gr.4 (damn that bus stop)
Race A: Suzuka - Gr.3

So, I guess this is the next 2 weeks of races. The race letters are probably just not showing up correctly for the second group.

Oooh, race 3 looks very inviting. I approve. B will also suit me well.

As for Fuji, struck again...up 5 places and a clean race bonus. I’ll take that any day.

GR3 dragon trail would've been perfect but hey good old Maggiore/GR3 is back its good enough for me

WooHoo! @sturk0167 still got me beat but I’ll take 3 tenths all day. :)

My Optimal in this car for the week is 21.6, if only I could somehow string that all together.

Hey I did not know you can get a penalty and the time counts ... you run very wide at the entrance to Mulsanne and cop a second or so penalty? At other tracks doesn't the penalty mean your time won't count? Heck I should go and run wide there! I guess it pays to do that in the race too?!!

You can do anything you want in qualifying, as long as you scrub the time before you finish the lap. The penalties are also easier to scrub off than they are in the race.

I aint gonna lie. My fastest lap wasn't exactly the cleanest. :D (Nothing like the top 10 at RBR, though)

From now on your nickname is Perth.

I gave that comment a like...even though I have absolutely sod all idea what it meant. Let me know if was an insult though so I can feign upset.:D

Edit; Think I get that now. Just read the rest of the thread and I’m about 4 hours behind time. Doh!
