Mt Panorama have always been a struggle for me, but the last two days the McLaren GTR has made me appreciate the track. I have done some more progress on the time (see video) and I know there is another 2-3 10's to get.
......
Today was a new PR and video evidence below. Any suggestions are welcome.....

Change the replay view to chase cam, its easy to see your driving lines that way. Use more track at the uphill, that way you can keep on throttle longer.

had a good late night race with @Bruunz @NosOsH and a couple other regulars tonight :) good clean racing!

@NosOsH some of those pass attempts were wild lol! 7:00 and 8:15 in the video.

Also something really strange happens in this race. The "wwe" driver de-syncs from the lobby, then at about 18:20 in that video he re-appears less than 1 second behind me on track. Huhhhh?

The Nord race is a joke, its tough to get away fro someone, and even a second in front means they'll get you on the straight. A guy was a second behind me, I entered the straight and stretched the lead a bit; then he starting gaining. So he pulls out and cruises up to me, and I thought, he'll slow down now. But he just kept cruising by. So I pulled behind him - and I could not gain time on him at all ...The game is stupid.

And so is the Lancer. I've driven a friends one, which was a bit improved, a Raliart version Evo X, and he had club tyres for track days. The real car handles absolutely nothing like the ridiculous toy thing that this game uses. Goodness the front tyres would last 2 minutes the way this thing behaves. Its such a fake car to drive, that it is totally unrewarding to drive - if I can really use that "drive" word - its really so fake its not like driving at all IMO.

Ya that was a cool race to be be apart of. You've got some pace, I could only gain on you if I exited those tight corners just perfect and get a hold of your stream. And I figured hey I might as well try, good job making it really hard for me. That second time I tried staying hard right so as not to bump you off, like ive done a couple times the last couple days, but that curb upset me and i just couldn't quite slow down enough to make it stick. I ended up spinning and wasnt gonna get another chance after that, although was able to stay in the race.
Goob job staying consistent all race, Im impressed Frank and Brunz were able to stay glued to Lester till the end I beat that Frank guy the race before this and passed him after he screwed up the next one too, but I could not get anywhere near Brunz's pace. Finished behind him on the next race.

wwe seemed like he slowed down and pulled off the track on T1 lap 6 maybe? and stayed there for the last 3 laps it seemed like. Ya then just reappeared ahead of me and deano on the leaderboard.

Matchmaking gave me an interesting one last night, I'm A+/S but raced a full lobby of D/S. My qualy time was a 2:01.4 and the next best a 2:08.9, I ran the race flat out, I think that's nicer than patronising everybody by running deliberately slow. My lead was over 1:30 by the end so nobody else finished.

It's embarrassing to be in races like that so I apologised on behalf of the game and tried to give them some advice on which cars are best, etc.

I had a weird race on nurburgring yesterday. Qualified 2nd, finished 3rd. I have a 8.22 QT, obtained after getting a stupid penalty in the end of the straight line and making a stupid mistake so I know I can run it in 8.20 (it's slow I know).
The first (croatian) was qualified in 8.16. I was thinking ok im gonna end up 2nd because there is no way I pass him as I'm at least 4s slower.
The guy messed up the first right turn. then the left turn. Then the right turn before the start line. Im just behind him and I try a daring outside pass on the first left turn after the start line...
Since the 1st kept being super slow, everyone was super close so the 3rd (danish) got on the inside, and did not manage to pass me, but pushed me out at the exit of the turn. I was thinking "OK now I get was sven was talking about, it's gonna be a mess". In the first long fast zone, the danish is now first, Im passing the croatian ( 2nd), which pushes me in the grass just when we arrive in the big braking before once right hand turn. At the same time, the danish goes a bit in the gravel, another guy passes me in the grass it was a mess ...
To make it short, the croatian ended up last and disconnected. The danish managed to escape, because I could not pass an italian guy that took the 2nd since he was blocking me aggressively and I had to take defensive line due to people behind me.

So my SR is going up super slowly because of this kind of stuff, Im still SR.A, and I don't understand how someone that obviously could not drive managed to qualify 6 second faster than me.

Two races for me at Bathurst last night, the first was another disaster, so much so that I retired. Got tagged at the Esses on the first lap and went from 6th to last lol. I wish it wouldn't punish our DR for retiring. Second race started in 3rd and finished 5th, was on for 3rd but stupid me wasn't concentrating coming out the elbow on the last lap while under no pressure and swapped ends in the McLaren. I'm really feeling that car though, well balanced, fantastic cockpit view. Got my qualy lap down to 2.03.1, but I reckon I can achieve the mid 2's. I was struggling at the dipper but someone mentioned on here about punching the throttle and it works a treat if the timing is right.

I struggle following people. I get too caught up looking at the car in front rather than the road. And the slight speed difference throws my braking points off.

Lester is quick though!

Funnily enough, I randomly picked the GTR and surprised it does so well. Good on fuel too. 4th gear pulls on the f1gtr but it leaves me in 6th. I think I’m slow at skyline. I downshift into 4th to stop the front wheels lifting so I can turn in on the crest. The guys in front had more pace there than me.

Looking forward to more races with you fellas.

Now onto this week's Race C with the McLaren F1 GTR. I set a qualy time of a 2:01.226 with an optimum of a 2:01.200 and an ultimate optimum of a 2:01.154. Race starts and I ran away from the pack from T1, but a Kiwi in a Mustang is the surprise here, as he was pretty fast throughout the race. Slightly ashamed that his undercut didn't go to plan as he just revved his car out without regards to fuel saving...

Sounds like everyone here is jumping on the McLaren band wagon . Yeh, I drove the Mustang first night just to get it out of the way and annoy the Ford fans. I had to short shift in the second half of the race because I only got 4 laps out of it before I had to pit for fuel. The other two cars I ran so far made it to 5 laps with no short shifting.

Because of your SR (lower than 90, but still S) - you will matched with the lowest DR (but SR 91+) Players in one room.

It looks like I'm finally going to qualify on Nord after being gatekeeped all the way up to Klosteral. The driver I was behind seemed to be pretty new to the track (braking in the wrong spots, slowing down unexpectedly etc.) but also stubborn in not acknowledging someone was trying to pass multiple times before he went off the track. By the time I passed, there was an 8 second gap between me and the next driver. It honestly feels like the only way to cleanly pass someone on this track is to wait until the driver decides to lose control and end up on the gravel.

Another night on the Nurb. Yegads what a ride. I did a lap just to get used to the car again then wait for the match fixing. I started P4/14 on a mixed grid of DR/B, C and D. There was a couple of DR/Bs behind me, and I knew they would be trouble... DR/Bs always are .

Race gets going and I managed to make it onto the actual race before I was harassed. I managed to capitalise on the mistakes of others and was sitting in P2 till be got to Kesselchen where the guy behind me stuck his nose in. I moved aside to give him room to pass, then I got mugged by the freight train behind him. I picked up an orange SR with 2s time penalty and managed to maintain P6 at the finish. Not entirely happy with the way DR/Bs tend to see you as an obstacle that needs to be moved out of the way rather than another car on the track :banghead:.

SR down 3, DR up 400.

Two races at bathurst last night. First race was a tough crowd with tight qualifying and started 7th (wearing 14 bib FWIW), worked my way to 4th and I am behind a Mclaren that is all over the road. He qualified a solid 8/10ths faster than me but man he was making big bouncy errors left and right. I try to pass and he is blocking all over the place, like crazy blocking, the McLaren is SO FAST on the straight. i eventually get past through the dipper as he runs off the road banging off of walls. Remarkably, no penalties to this point which is just incredible given the pin-ball way he's driving. By the end of Conrod he is 0.5 seconds behind, I figure I am Ok and take the racing line but yep, the HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLS it up the inside at the chase and pushes me off. I fall to 13th, fuming. Work my way back to 8th.

Next race i line up p2, with my buddy in p1. Strike me. I am all over him from the get go, just all over him, he is pin-balling EVERYWHERE yet somehow manages to avoid penalties (this i just do not understand), his pace is terrible and the guys behind are getting close. I am trying not to make a move and wait for an error but the guys behind are making me nervous. He again bins it at the dipper, I pass him and he pushes and shoves me into forest elbow and into the chase and into hell corner where he finally drops it yet again.

What a dick.

It honestly feels like the only way to cleanly pass someone on this track is to wait until the driver decides to lose control and end up on the gravel.

The Evo handles well with two wheels on the grass, so the track is actually much wider than it appears due to the car. As I'm sure you know, there are also many apexes with paver bricks in the grass that still provide solid drivable traction. I recommend practicing passing against N400 cars with an N300 car, focusing on only passing during the straights and only over taking on the outside of turns. The power differential imitates the variance of a live race on the straights so it's a fun way to learn key passing locations.

What helps me to make a pass is knowing which apexes the lead car has to hit to retain speed and making them choose between holding the apex and retaining distance or blocking me and slowing down. If I had a clean exit at a major turn and they choose to retain their apex, I can sometimes get along side on the outside and hopefully secure the next major corner despite having a less than optimal line. If they block to the outside while I have a run on them, then I switch back and ride the bricks on the inside bend to secure the pass. Once you're on the bricks, if they even nudge you a foot more into the grass, they'll instantly get a time penalty... they know this so they'll usually rub your inside two wheels all the way to the white line and then hold there until you pass.

Got cought up running hot laps at the ring yesterday, not 5hat it helped me put down a better time, my opt is down to 8.10.6xx like i can ever come close to that lol

Did three races last night. The first i thought was a good one till an Argentinean called me an idiot in the after race chat. He was apparently quite uset that i was braking to much when he was behind me. Not sure what his problem was we were keeping pace pretty well with the leader. He got by me in the last section before the looooong straight and we finished 2, 3. The next two i was sloppy and fell from top three to mid pack both times, so that was all for the night.

First race this morning was good and clean. Started 2 finish 3, 4 was nearly 4 sec back...

I think I'm going to do some racing at the Nord tonight from the back. I still need about 10 laps to re-learn the track from last time. I wish it was 2 laps instead of 1. I dream of the day where I can actually visualize the racing line all the way around that track. I need a couple of hours lapping for that I think. If it gets too hairy coming through traffic, I guess I'll have to qualify. Don't know where I'd end up, other than in the grass, but if I can make it through a lap without any major offs, I should be able to put something respectable down.
Tried the F1 at the Mountain and got into the 2:05's. There's a lot left there if I can hold it together for a whole lap. Definitely room for improvement.
Race A...I hoped my time would hold up longer. I should know better than to throw down the gauntlet in front of @Pigems . It will take some serious ghost chasing to beat his lap, but i"ll have to give it a shot this weekend. When I tried last time I did a very low 1:07 where I gained almost .2 on my ghost in the last sector on my way to the finish line. The upside is, if I can beat it, I have a shot at getting real close to cracking the top 10, since that is about what it will take.

The mentality of some players of GT Sport reared its daft head in Race A today.

I was carrying a 4 second penalty for about 3/4's of the lap after been brake checked by some Dutch player.

Anyway, onto the home straight and the car in front has a 6 second penalty; OK, I've taken their spot at the finish line, so I'm not going to hassle them.

The Dutch racer who gave me my penalty is behind me, with no penalties showing. OK, they'll do the same as I'm gonna do and they'll cross the line behind me and gain 2 places.

No, the absolute idiot takes me and the other car out as we start to slow down and brake for the esses leading to the start finish line. Pushes me into the barriers, and they themselves then get a 5 second penalty.

Why not just sit behind me, I had a penalty to deplete and you had nothing but 2 easy places to gain. Idiot!!!

I don't know how much you care about your Dr and Sr, but instead of doing some laps from the back losing Dr and Sr, just do 5 qualifying laps after watching a replay of the fastest runs.

I've just seen the best laps are seconds under 8min... I need to watch it to understand how i can be so slow

My DR is way too high and my Q time is way too fast for my own good!

Race 1, 16:30: Started 2nd in the McLaren, quickly realized my race pace was garbage and dropped down the order. Lap 5 gave me the big oof; I pitted from 6th and binned the pit entrance. I kept trying to get back to the pits, but the game reset me every time. Quit the race, -1400 DR.

Race 2, 17:00: Started 3rd in the Supra. Pretty uneventful race; extremely mediocre driving led me to finish 9th. +300 DR.

Race 3, 17:30: Started 2nd in the Supra. I passed the leader on the Conrod Straight on lap 1 and led for three laps posting pathetic 2:03s and holding everyone up  I lost the lead on the Mountain Straight to the chasing AMG and a McLaren dropped me to 3rd on Conrod. I pitted 0.9s behind the leader and would have jumped both of them, but I just had to slightly mess up the pit entry again :ouch: I underfueled to compensate, exited 5th, dropped to 6th by the end of the race and ran out of fuel on the S/F straight, losing 4 positions :banghead: -12 DR. Yes, I only got -12 for finishing 10th. :scared:

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the racing a lot thanks to the Gr3 + Bathurst combo, even though the results were abysmal considering my grid positions. It also helped knock my pride down a peg after the glorious victory in my last race a month ago  Everyone was very clean, so my SR stayed at 99 throughout the session. Which is bad news, since I'm going to get humiliated in the top A/S lobby again next time I race :p DR 43323 -> 42222.

You'd think some of these super expensive cars with come with a stereo. Even the worst piece of crap cars in GTA have radios in them. I want some rock music while I race. It would be nice if we were allowed to upload our own music. I'd like to hear some AC/DC or Volbeat while tearing up the track. :banghead:

If you have Spotify(there is a free version) you can link it to your PS4 and play your own music anytime during the game, you just need to turn down the Race/Menu BGM.

I mean, GTA gives jetskis and motorcycles radios so it shouldn't be taken too seriously :p

I do this all the time. It is smart enough to know that spotify is playing and it mutes BGM.

nordschleife :i had 39.300 DR and was struggeling to with SR .In between A and B.even tho started two days ago as S Sr.
i was about to do bathurts from last position just to raise my SR rating .but i told myself.ok last race and ill do it.

and one guy hits me after long straight when im full on brakes.i get 5sek. penalty for nothing.and i good reset.

this one absolut joke and stupidity of the game.

Did you lose DR? Or gain 1 point per player you beat? There seems to be a bug with either the calculation or rare instances where something else goes wrong.

It takes two to make a clean pass on Nord. In the race I did just now I exchanged places with another clean driver a few times. Side by side for up to 20 seconds with how small the speed differences are. It's very easy to block, passing only works with other clean and capable drivers. Some are clean yet get too close to the edge and slip into you.

I gave up on backfield racing as meeting clean and capable drivers on the Nord at the back is too rare. You don't need a stellar time, just enough to get racing with the capable crowd, not get stuck behind the 8:30 qualifiers :)

I think you can put some music on a USB and listen to it. I did that for a while.

Or if using headphones, the double headphone technique. Cans over earbuds. Earbuds plugged into the game/Cans plugged into a music player. ie phone. This is makes the controlling the music easy IMO.
